  • This is the 12th and final round of the 2005 125cc AMA Motocross Championship presented by FMF from Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA.
    Returning contenders like 2-time 125cc West SX champ Ivan Tedesco, 2001 MX champ Mike Brown, 2005 125cc East SX champ and 2003 125cc MX champ Grant Langston, 2003 runner-up Ryan Hughes, Stephane Roncada, rookie Mike Alessi, Matt Walker, Andrew Short, 2004 Rookie of the Year Broc Hepler, Davi Millsaps, 125cc sophomore Josh Grant, 2-time champ Steve Lamson and others battle it out for the 2005 125cc AMA Motocross Championship presented by FMF. Points leader Ivan Tedesco debuts his MX des Nations #102. Rookie Ryan Villopoto earns his first professional 125cc moto and overall podium. This race is well known for the controversial move KTM rookie Mike Alessi makes on points leader Ivan Tedesco after Tedesco scores 0 pts. in moto 1 due to a broken chain, which leads to Alessi (who won moto #1) being stripped of his points for the day, and Alessi's Rookie of the Year award for 2005, which goes to 250cc rider Juss Laansoo #942 of the Motosport Outlet Honda team. This marks the final race where the division names are 125cc and 250cc, and are to be renamed "Supercross/Motocross" and "Supercross/Motocross Lites" for 2006 and beyond.

      Yeah I know -- I did record this on a blank disc, but blame my mom who was really picky about loud TV volumes when I was growing up in this time period.

    Did they actually give Langston the win in the 1st moto?
    There's no way that's legal,

    • @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames
      @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No -- Alessi was still declared the moto winner after Langston's off-track excursion... even though Alessi was later stripped of his points for the day for the BS move he put on Tedesco in moto 2.

      Actually they gave the first moto win to Langston. Seems very weird!
      It's normal to commit such immature mistake at that age. But they played dirty politics with Mike Alessi

      @@tamilentertainments6454 That was after Mike Alessi was stripped of all his points that day and his 2005 Rookie of the Year award. I suppose that meant Langston has an unknown sweep to his credit, but either way, Langston's sporadic results put him out of title contention, even after winning 4 events.

      +Mxracer6y You're very welcome. I hope you will see some of the other classic SX/MX stuff on my channel.I remember watching this race because I had started my last year of high school and I sure as heck didn't approve of what Alessi did. It was totally uncalled for and now look at where Mike's career has gotten him to... pretty much nowhere. I thought he was over all the stupid crappy stuff from his first 2 or 3 years of racing before Atlanta 2014.

      No it didn't. Mike Alessi hit the panic button here and eventually threw the title away.

    Funny same thing essentially happened in Thunder Valley, and the AMA gives AC gets the win. Meanwhile Justin (who should be visibly upset) gets a wave of hate for speaking his mind on the decision made. Hypocrisy at it's brightest.

      That's a little hard to explain there. All I can really think of is that this was when logic was way different back then. I think the AMA deemed that Langston re-entered the course too soon and gained a position upon re-entering. The AMA has a LONG history of inconsistency on rulings. I can still remember the Houston 2000 race in the 125cc main when Casey Lytle was docked 1 position for doubling on a red-cross flag (unintentionally of course) because he was so busy trying to get around Rodrig Thain. I still remember Duke Finch saying, "Casey jumped at a red cross flag, and gained a position by doing so and we've penalized 1 position that he gained on a triple when he must roll all 3 jumps." Lytle finished 3rd on the track, but 4th in the final results.
      I don't blame Justin Cooper for being as mad as he is, but I'm sure he'd have done the same if that were him that went off the track and not AC. Then again, Cooper threw the overall away anyway with his own mistake. He reminds me a little bit of Jimmy Button. Back then, Button was fast, but always seemed to make a mistake that later cost him in the end. I can still remember Button say he threw the Atlanta '98 race away, and he kinda did because he never changed a couple of lines.

    • @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames
      @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, because Langston cut a part of the track and gained a position when he re-entered the course.

    • @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames
      @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mxracer6y Yes it does explain it. I think today, Langston may have been let off since he let Alessi by when he re-entered the course.

      It was still called the 125cc class in 2005; the following year was when they changed the division names to Supercross/Motocross and Supercross/Motocross Lites.

      Personally, I disagree; Hepler was not in the main line when he and Tedesco tangled (supposedly). Tedesco's situation was just dumb and bad luck IMO when someone hit him.
