Thanks for all your kind thoughts everyone! I'm currently finishing off a detailed review of the camera's lens - will be out in a week or two.
Great review Chris! Please keep the camera reviews coming!
I am one of those people that got into photography due to Fuji X100 series, namely X100S. I got a hefty bonus, saw this incredible looking camera with manual controls and great reviews, and thought it would be fun. Since then I have tried many cameras - LX100, XT20, A7 II, Pen F, Z Fc, Z5, but X100 has shaped the way I enjoy photography as a hobby. I still feel most at home with analog controls.
Interesting perspective. I have the opposite experience of cameras (i.e. I started with interchangeable DSLR/Mirrorless cameras before trying compact cameras) and that soured me to the X100's control setup.
A while ago I broke my RX100iv and wanted to upgrade to an APSC compact. Was looking to get the X100 for the relatively large aperture but the controls was the dealbreaker. The granularity is nice but I like shooting in priority modes 90% of the time and it was a pain to switch each dedicated dial to "A". Ended up with a G1X m3 instead - the controls on that (at least to me) feel like what a "Real" camera should actually be: i.e. a good number of multifunctional, customisable dials that do different things in different modes.
Also didn't like the "jack of all trades" fixed angle. I get that its the trade-off for having a f2 aperture but its never quite wide enough for landscape whilst also being just a bit too wide for most subject-focused shots.
1000, Congratulations
Heads up - the AEL button is fully customizable and can be set for film sim selection.
Sim, simulation, not real, illusion, not worth the hype, mediocre fixed lens.
@@Arcticfox7 so brave
@@Arcticfox7again I don’t believe you’ve used one. Professional level tests show the lens is well up to the task of 40mp. Think Fuji know more about lens and sensor matching than either of us. In my sample it’s as sharp as a Canon 50mm 1.8 from the late 1980s not the current cheap facsimiles. That lens is classed as one the best primes of the past decades.
You hate it because it's popular. Objective performance shows that this camera is legitimately awesome. Reminder, being a contrarian doesn't make you cool@@Arcticfox7
@@Arcticfox7 who hurt you 🤣🤣
Congrats! Been watching your channel since year 1🎉
Thanks man!
For 2023 years then? Amazing!
Congratulations, Christopher! Your channel is always the most important source, whenever I want to buy a new lens
1000 videos, that's incredible! Such an amazing achievement.
Congrats on #1000. Definitely the first channel I go to for camera gear reviews
You can reassign the AEL/AFL button to display the film simulation menu instead.
That menu is dedicated to the front button by default settings.
Congratulations! 1000 videos is an incredible achievement!
I own the camera and enjoy it quite a bit. It’s as good as I’ve found all of the previous iterations at their time of release. Avoid the hype and only buy if you’re familiar with these cameras or you’ve tried one before. Definitely overpriced, but what isn’t these days. Good review, well balanced.
You can be so proud of yourself. Great work over all these years. When I started to be fascinated by photography, I discovered this channel. In some years, photography left me and I turned to other things... but I always come back to it and your videos. Thank you!
My favorite Fuji I’ve used out of the XT3, XT4, XT5, XE4, XS20, and XH2S. Don’t even want to pick anything else up at the moment.
Stopping by just to say CONGRATULATIONS on 1000 videos, that is no small achievement. Whenever I need straight to the point lens reviews you're my first port of call, here's to 1000 more 🎉
"Highly recommended - for rich kids" 😂 Nice little tongue-in-cheek comment slipped in there Chris.
I'm thinking of selling my X-T2 and four lenses and getting an X100VI (when they're available - in a couple of years lol). My use case has changed significantly over recent years and my current set-up stays in it's bag most of the time these days. Conversely, my X-E1 with 27mm f/2.8 is always with me.
Congrats Christopher! But also the rear dial is a button that when pressed gives you film simulation selections!
Brilliant effort Chris.
1000 videos and 334,000 subscribers. What a work ethic.
Your content is always great, even if not for a system I use. Onwards and upwards. 👍🏻😀
I’ve been watching your channel since the start. Congratulations, Chris! 🎉
Congratulations, Christopher! Your channel has been one of my "go-to" TH-cam sites since soon after your started it. Please keep up the great work!
What GSM Arena is to phones, CF Channel is to Cameras & Lenses! Such a very helpful channel for people like me - a beginner to camera gears. Congrats on 1000!
Great review as always and congrats on 1000 reviews!
I’ve been using this one since it’s rollout and I agree, it’s a fantastic camera, building off the already great X100V. The IBIS was definitely the one thing it needed.
I’ve got the V and love it. I thought about the upgrade but it’s so good that I didn’t feel the increased MP and stabilisation warranted it. Love the ability to zoom in for a 50 & 70mm field of view as well as the built in ND filter. BTW you can easily customise any of the buttons to make the film simulations accessible at the flick of a button. In fact the customisation of this camera is phenomenal for something so compact.
Congratulations on your 1000th video; quite an achievement! And yes, the X100VI is a lot of fun. I've managed to get it (in silver!) by pre-ordering on 20th February and then waiting for about 6 weeks.
Congrats Chris - what an achievement! Here's to the next 1000 videos, eh? 🙌🏻🎊
Congratulations Christopher for your 1000th video !
You still have the best lens review channel on TH-cam - keep on going !
Big congrats from Australia!! Been watching for over a year now, keep it going!
Congratulations on reaching 1000 videos!
I was sure you meant “1000th video you’ve seen on the X100VI”
Good stuff congrats on 1000 videos!
Here's to a thousand more, congratulations Christopher.
Congratulations for the 1000 video. I am a faithful follower :). I was not going to buy this camera as I recently bought a sony a7cr but I had a good price offer and unexpectedly got it in March. What do I think? The camera's performance and versatility is obviously poor compared to the Sony but it is so fun and easy to use and it gets you in the mood for street photography which I would say it is what is intended for and I do 99% of my time. I can automate much more my shoots and hip shoot because I have a sense of what the lens will cover and easily go from very automatic to very manual functions. The film simulations are a joy and I edit the pictures much less than with the Sony. Therefore, if you are a street photographer wanting to capture the moment and avoid at maximum post processing, I think it is an excellent camera worth the price because you won't stop using it. If you like landscape, bird, sports, etc. buy another camera.
If you love photography. Like using a camera phone, DSLR, film camera, mirrorless. You need to try the x100 series to really appreciate using it.
Congratulations on the big milestone Christopher. 1000 videos is an amazing achievement - here's to 1000 more.
Thanks for the years
I got a Fujifilm X-T30II as a companion to my Canon R5 to have a camera that i can take with me when i dont want to carry the heavy gear. Its limited, because it seems fuji doesnt think a X-T40 is needed so its stuck with the old sensor, 26mp and no ibis.... but thats a compromise i was willing to accept to have a really light compact (and flippin sexy looking) camera with interchangable lenses.
I dont need 4xmp in it neccesarily, 26 is fine, but ibis would be a real boon to it. Maybe one day fujiw ill update the XT 30 series... the X100 is really nice, the HVF especially , but only having a 35mm equiv on it (my least favourite focal lengh - sorry) is too limiting for me, especially for that price.
On the FF lense side i prefer 20 FFequiv or 50 - yes im weirdly specific there. :D
Holding out for the XPro 4 next year…
Congratulations 🍾 on reaching 1000 videos. Thank you for all the great work to provide us with one of the best review channels on the web. Well done! Diolch a phob dymuniad da! 🎉 🏴
Congratulations on 1000, Chris! I've had the X100F for about 5 years and brutally honestly I get very frustrated with it, the autofocus was slow, innacurate and truly hated the Auto screen off detection which is supposed to turn off the screen when you raise the camera to your eye, however I found it would turn on and off all the time when holding the camera in your hands. Wasn't ever impressed with the image quality and found it burnt through batteries super fast too. The auto exposure seemed to have no idea what to do and would blow out every image, I've never seen what the sky looks like in any of the images it took.
That was many years ago though and I'm sure the new version is much improved. Although at the price I think there might be better options if you can avoid the hype. That being said, I never had more compliments on a camera, random people in Amsterdam would give you a 'nice camera'... I hope they weren't taking the piss
A thousand videos of great & informative content. Cheers from Jamaica :)
wow 1000!! I have probably seen most of them. Thanks for all the effort and the details over the years!
Congratulations on the milestone- have you considered reviewing the Ricoh GR Ill or GR Illx- really pocketable
Congratulations! Your doing a fantastic job bringing us critical information
Congratulations for video 1000, Christopher! Wow, fabulous ! Good work :-) Whenever I am interested by a lens, I check what you have to say about it, your videos are my reference. So a big thank you for being here on youtube and sharing these reviews. Cheers from Québec, Canada
Received my 2 pre orders for my wife and I. As far as Fuji goes, we already had X100f and xpro2. Ended up selling both VI’s. Just wasn’t enough of an upgrade over the X100f. Needs a new lens (Autofocus isn’t even as quick as the xpro2 with 23mmf2) and new battery (flash recycle time is way too slow) before I upgrade.
Congrates Chris, nice hobby you have! I wonder if you'd ever review the Ricoh GR3, would be interesting to get your thoughts as it's a great pocket camera. Cheers
gratz! youre the only reviewer worth looking at, just straight facts
Congrats!
Congratulations Chris
Many congratulations Chris. You so deserve so much associated support; your videos are a great source of essential information. I’m looking forward to the lens review as I have heard some uninspiring comments about its ability to handle 40mb.
Massive congratulations on 1000 videos! That's amazing 🙂
Congrats on your milestone..your a great reviewer...I still think XT30ii is the real deal.I do find the whole menu experience a little confusing on Fuji. Weather proofing could be an area of improvement. I do find the bigger sensor is a bonus on the XV. stabilizer is a must
Congratulations!
Fancy my surprise watching this video in the very same Arcade that featured in it . Good job
Well done Chris, from Tauranga NZ. May there be many more!
Thanks for all your videos! Your videos are always really good and I really like the content and the way you make them!
Your opinion always means a lot to me!
So keep it up and thank you!
"highly recommended... for rich kids that is" ;P priceless ending lol!
Congratulations on reaching the 1000 milestone. Love your videos they are a great help as I am researching which camera system to go for. thank you and Take care. Doug
Congrats Christopher! Keep up the excellent work :)
A lovely & comprehensive video on the Fuji V1. I await your further thgths .. Thks
I know you are a valuable asset … but I had no idea you are such a talented photographer thank you
Congratulations! 1000 videos!!
Congrats for the 1000 Chris!
Congratulations🎉
What an excellent review! Thank you, Christopher. Please consider doing a comparison with the Sony a6700 + Sigma 23 mm f1.4. This comparison has not been done by anyone and we really would appreciate your honest opinion.
Why?
@@Mw02vegIf they're the same price, then your money goes further with the SONY?
If you don't want a retro looking camera with the unique features of the VI, then just get the A6700 as you are missing the whole point of the VI.
Hey @christopherfrost thanks for all the reviews. I’ve bought some stellar equipment over the years thanks to them. Without them I would look back at my kids baby pictures with regret. Now I have 2 digital picture frames filled with a lot of the photos.
Maybe digital picture frames would be something to review?!
Note : The leaf shutter makes internal and external flash photography interesting on this camera... you can sync at any speed and (almost) turn off the sun !
Congratulations on 1000 videos, you have serious stamina :-)
The mechanical shutter is a leaf shutter btw. Also it seems historically an ND filter is more easily implemented on a fixed lens camera than one with an interchangeable lens mount. In this case it is actually in the middle of the lens.
I love mine! I still turn to my ZF for more “serious” work, but it’s an easy solo travel camera. I wouldn’t discount that little flash; it’s just big enough for some fill work in bright scenes, and coupled with that ND and leaf shutter has meant that I’ve gotten family portrait shots of my daughter in broad daylight with fill flash at f/2. Congrats on the milestone!
Chris jumping on the hype train :) Good review btw!
Congrats on video 1000!
Congrats Chris and thank you for
God bless you Christopher!
Cograts on the 1000th! quality content throgh and through.
As for the camera it's nice but not worth the waiting list or hype , and markup around it.
I will get an X-T5 or the upcoming X-T50 (depending on price and features)
Had to return mine after only 5 days of use because the EVF screen kept getting stuck. I guess their quality control isn’t as good this time around 😢
Look at other you tube experts. It is a user settings issue and nothing to do with QA.
@@andrewcrossley2448nope, it’s QC. The screen will literally stop half way and get stuck. It’ll also rattle and vibrate as if it’s trying to switch but it can’t. So half my screen is full black, half is transparent glass. Trust me, I’ve owned an X100V before this and it should not be doing that.
@@ramoftherose sorry to hear that. Sounds more likely that it’s been dropped in transit on its way to you. Assume the dealer, courier or Fuji had offered to cover your replacement or refund costs. IBIS does cause a minor rattle but that’s a trait of such systems.
Mine works fine and it’s from the first batch back in February.
@@andrewcrossley2448it’s not the ibis making the vibration, it’s the EVF/OVF window being stuck and it’s trying to get unstuck. And yes it’s covered under Fuji warranty. I sent it back to BH to see if I can just get a replacement but if it’s going to take months, I’m going to have it shipped back to me and I’ll send it to Fuji for repairs
The Ricoh GR cameras ticks a couple of boxes the Fuji doesn’t- it’s APSC sensor & captive lens is a much smaller package & it has some built in memory, if not a second card slot
But the Ricoh isn't as fun or good looking 😜
@@kualiloTrue - Totally lacking useless dials! ; )
The Ricoh is a great option. More compact, but the image and auto-focus isn't as good I think, so a trade off there. The in-built memory can't be used at the same time as the card slot from memory, so I don't think it achieves the goal of backing up images, but does mean you can take some shots if you forget your memory card. It's strength is 100% it's pocket size.
@@MPD90@Reggiebphoto Reggie Ballesteros has a good comparison of the 2 cameras. The image quality was about the same.
No EVF on the GR. Terrible at taking shots on the LCD in bright light.
congrats!!! here's to 1000+ more :D
Congrats on your 1000 👊
I love the X100 but for a few quid more you can have a S/H waterproofed GFX50r (which is what I did) and a for a few quid less an XE-1 with any lens you like
What’s the rich kids bit?
I’m an old pensioner but bought one for high quality travel and street work as an upgrade to my little Canon M5 kit.
My Fuji is off on a tour with me to China next weekend, bit of a busman’s holiday for it then.
Think I’ll just use an IPhone 15 pro max for video though. That’s a fantastic bit of kit for us ‘Rich kids’ too…
As others pointed out, you can set up film sims with a few clicks, do film sim bracketing and even set up to swipe the screen for quick black and white. Less obvious than Sony and Canon on button labels but more versatile on customisation. I may get my old Dymo label maker out to create vintage stickies. Or maybe just have the (large) manual on my phone to help.
Guess I’ll be happy with setting lens to F4 (sharpest), use AP and auto iso….like a you tuber….
Thanks I want my fuji 100VI 😊 I love 💕 it
1000 videos? Have probably seen them all... JK, thanks for being so consistent in the quality of your work!
to be honest I don't understand why they bother with video features on a fixed lens little camera.. I would much prefer it has less or no video features and lower price
edit: I have a g10 that tops at 480p 30fps so modern day let's say 1080p would be more than enough at 30 fps
Was shooting 4kHQ yesterday. Couldn't get as close as I wanted, and the virtual Tele converters don't work in video. The crop of the output I chose helped, but that high resolution helped me to crop in afterwards a lot with no noticeable quality issues. At over 100% crop, still better than most phones. High resolution on video is not just about putting it on massive TVs.
Getting rid of video features would not lead to a lower price, so why not include. Maybe don't include any viewfinders as lots of people use the back screen. That's something that would actually bring cost down.
The video features are already built in to the image processor. Removing them would be an artificial cripple, and naughty market segmentation. Developing its own image processor without video features would likely be more expensive. Many may like to take little clips here and there.
@@Paul_Rohde yes but I want an artificial cripple to have a lower price. 1080p@30fps is plenty for "little clips here and there". camera with a fixed 35mm lens is not for video and it's too expensive for what it is
BABE WAKE UUUP CHRISTOPHER UPLOADED HIS 1000TH FRIKIN VIDEO 🗣️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bought a X100S for a third of the price a few month ago. It's very nice, but i wouldn't pay that much for the new one, being a fixed lens camera.
Many people, me included, don't buy additional lenses besides the kit lenses, so a high quality lens as the one built-in in the X100 line is not far fetched. In fact I tried to find an equivalent (pancake-sized, leaf shutter, near macro capability) that I can easily put into a jacket pocket and no luck in the interchangeable side of cameras.
Congratulations been following your channel from day dot. Thank you for another great review, i agree even if they can include 128gb internal memory to give you some peace of mind. I would be reluctant to take it on one of my weddings with just one card slot.
letsgo. i was waiting for this
Looks pretty good for street and travel, I love my Nikon ZF apart from it being too heavy at times but very similar spec and price.
the big triple 0! congrats!
I was expecting a lens analysis… but I understand it will be the subject of the next video… so I will be patient :).
There are other very detailed tests. To save you time, it’s very sharp and capable of getting the best from the sensor. There are a few commentators saying it isn’t which is more about their photography knowledge and skills than reality. Think I’ll go with my own eyes and the professional tests done by someone who knows all about lens resolution.
I got off this bandwagon early on and have instead been enjoying the X-T30ii with 2 pancake lenses, the Fuji 27 f2.8 & Voigtlander 18 f2.8. Looking forward to the X-T50, with IBIS & 40 mp sensor.
I'm a Canon shooter but this camera is really tempting.
Pretty sure AEL/AFL is fully programmable as a function button.
Yes it is 👍🏻
Congratulation 🎉🙂
Great video 👍 you forgot to mention the leaf shutter?
Congratulations on your 1000 videos. I used to check out your old Samyang stuff back when you were in Korea. It's been great and instructive ride. Cheers!
Congrats fellow Christopher on 1000 videos. I have been following you the last decade since that terrible Canon powerzoom lens you reviewed. That's how I found you, found that piece of crap at a thrift store for $10 and looked for any reviews. Its terrible. However... it works alright on a Sony camera via MC-11 adapter but still terrible.
Leaf shutter, high speedsync flash... ??
Dont get it, same old design with ibis, most boring focal length, old lens design. Much more interested in the XT50 coming up
Chris, would you mind telling us which of the colour recipes you used for the photos in this video? Their colours look very vibrant, much more I am able to do with my Fujifilm X-E3. I’m sure that many of us would appreciate how you achieved those colours! Thank you./Warren
How is the noise? 40mp seems like its way too much pixel density for an APSC sensor. Seems like its either going to be unusable or rely entirely on "computational photography" to compensate (which IMHO beats the point of having a dedicated camera).
from going to streets, to anime conventions, we can just use this camera
