In this video we take a look at a few upgrades I have made to my Bambu Lab A1 Mini printer. I have really enjoyed using this machine and these few add ons range from being convenient to allowing for abrasive printing. We will go through each of them and cover how to install them.

As a new A1 owner (256mm), this video was helpful to me in that the A1 mini and A1 have same hotend, and therefore same spare parts for it.

The big mod I did to mine was a bracket that lets you mount the AMS to the top of the Z tower. About halved the footprint of the thing.
Aside from that, the clip that holds in the AMS hub was defective on mine, so I printed a little bracket that locks the hub in place. Also printed a poop bucket, but a very light and simple one that just sits to the side. Also printed a tool drawer that hugs the top on the machine on the right, above the screen. It's slotted to make sure the bed can clear it. Just sticks down with double sided tape.

On Makerworld there is a top mount build for the AMS Lite system. I would like to see a review of that one, to help take up less space and not have to mount to a wall.
We need a slide to the front of the desk for the poop management system. Buckets are simply always full and I don’t have the space for bin to the left of the printer. I really like that dock though.
Not an A1 owner, but bought a P1S about a week ago. I can say the print removal scraper print and parts are awesome sauce. It slips under the prints and removes them with almost no effort. So much better than the spatulas my Enders came with.
I also just upgraded from Creality to Bambu Labs - went from a heavily modded Ender 3 V2 to the A1. I used the crappy scrapers that came with the Ender to get the prints off of the heated glass build plate. I have not yet needed to use a scraper at all on the A1 since the PEI build plate flexes. That may change as I start printing with some super soft TPU. I’m a little worried about damaging the PEI build plate with anything hard or sharp.
@@BLAZE-1001 how is the a1? I went from a v2 ender 3 to a p1s and I love it. I'm looking for an excuse to get the a1 mini now that it's a bit cheaper
@@TrillMurray I have been really enjoying the Bambu Labs A1. It’s super easy to set up, accessories like the Automatic Material System (AMS Lite) are plug-and-play, and the software is wonderful. The automatic bed leveling is super nice. The community and customer support for the Bambu Labs is phenomenal. I’ve heard some people express slight disappointment with the A1 mini, but only because they wished they had purchased the full-size A1 instead. I have been thoroughly enjoying my Bambu Lab A1.
@@TrillMurray I’d say get the A1 mini, especially since you’re already in the Bambu ecosystem. It is insanely good for the price and nothing to my knowledge comes close to it.
The fact that the "poop" bin isn't a toilet blows my mind. Epic opportunity missed...

I just ordered the standalone version of the A1 Mini during the short window they had them available yesterday (Nov 3rd). Can't wait to play around with this thing. Sold my house full of 10 older printers this week, so I picked up a P1S+AMS and this A1 Mini (printer only) as replacements. I was swimming in spare parts with the Creality, Ultimaker, Geetech, and Kodama printers I was maintaining; so nice to reduce that to just these 2 printers systems.

@@umutkucuk7213nope, I mean November 3rd they had a small batch open for preorders. Which sold out that day, then they will open again on Nov 6th for more preorders. This was the preorder date, not expected delivery date.

Bambu is so far ahead and if they release a printer with bigger printing volume is Game over for the other companies
I want to preorder but concerned about when the shipping date would be. In the UK it says before Christmas but you never know with preorders.

new to A1 Mini and 3d printing the video was very helpful. I can print from Bambu Handy App but not from any other 3d site. Cant download to printer at all any ideas why or what
I have a variant of the poop chute, it's amazing! Only thing worse than stepping on a lego is stepping on a poop!

I would like to point out that I print the A1 Mini Purge Bucket file with a Bambulab P1P and I noticed that in the Bambu studio settings and specifically in the speed menu (acceleration) the normal printing parameter is set to 6000 while when I load the BAMBU PLA CF filament it set to 10000. Which of the two is correct?
Is the bambu A1 same as well? i just need to change the hardened head to print carbon and nylon? dosent need case?
The AMS top mount model provided by bambu is so silly, i couldnt beleive how complicated they managed to make such a simple solution. Had to redo it all, works well now though and prints way easier

What is your take on the Bambu Lab debate about open source, copying without honoring licences, patents in Asia and valuing consumers data? Since you build some open source community 3d printers by yourself and Bambu Lab clearly took "inspiration" from Voron (input shaping), Klipper or the Prusa Mini ( to the point of using Prusa Slicer for their Bambu Studio) it would be interesting to hear your thoughts! Let's say in 4 years Bambu Lab is dominating the market like it happend with DJI drones a few years back: would it be okay for you to "only" make videos like this about printed accessory because with a closed system there is nothing else to do?
And secondly you mentioned the AMS system and called it also a game changer in an older video: How come there are so few reviews of that Prusa MMU (2s + 3) to be found on the important channels since it's around for ages?
When the AMS /lite is such a game changer, how come the MMU never was?
For someone who sees 3D printing as a hobby and not only a tool: is it worth to take a look at that MMU or would an IDEX printer like the Sovol SV04 be the more "working" solution in your opinion? And is that rabbit feeder an option in your opinion?

Those questions were part of my decision to go with a Prusa MK4 when I got back into the hobby. Ease of making repairs, customer service, and Made in Europe were also factors. And I *love!* the fact that Prusa usually offers upgrade paths for older printers (and for the MMU). However I think it's inevitable that 3D printers will eventually become commodity consumer items, much like regular printers. They will be closed, hard to repair... however they will not require repairs or tuning quite as often; today's 3D printers are already light years ahead of those of a couple of years ago.
Making a closed design might not be good for self-serviceability, but it does drive the price down. Prusa's philosophy of using commodity hardware combined with 3D printed parts is great, but it's already hard to compete on price with closed designs. To give you an idea of the cost of using 3D printed parts: the MMU3 is offered either with the 3D printed parts included, or with only the filament required to print them yourself. The price difference is €40! Hopefully in the future Prusa will come up with a way to use cheaper injection molded plastic parts in their printers, but still allow the owner to print replacement parts himself if need be. This may also help them reduce the rather long lead times on orders.
As for Prusa's MMU, apparently the MMU2 was a fiddly bit of kit, it worked reasonably well when it worked, but it often needed tweaking, maybe that's why it never got much attention. In contrast, AMS is billed as an "it just works" solution for anyone, and it appears to be. I've not seen many reviews on the MMU3 yet either, but it seems they have fixed the problems of the MMU2.
As someone who runs two ender 3 pros im not sure if I should get a bambu printer like the A1 mini or if I should go all in with an x1 or a voron. What do you think. I should mention building a printer is very on the table.
If the printer is also your hobby and not just a print farm machine than you shouldn't consider Bambu Lab, maybe the P1P as the only option, because with X1, P1S and A1 you simply cannot modify much.
A Lerdge iX Kit or Voron Zero LDO Kit would be a good alternative if you really want to build your own machine!
The Prusa MK4 Kit would also be an option for a new and fast printer. A used Prusa MK3 (maybe with a problem to be fixed) for like 300 bucks or a Voron Ender 3 Pro Switchwire conversion would also be suited ...
It really depends on how much tinkering and hobby you like, how big the build plate has to be and if fast but loud printing is a thing for you.
With already 2 Ender 3 Pro at home I would consider the Voron Switchwire conversion to be honest. And if you "need" a workhorse I would opt for a used Prusa MK3.
Yeah. I like hasso's comment. I have an S1 Pro with sonic pad. The only real reason I'm thinking of switching is multi material and maybe easier to use. BUT, the Bambu AMUs waste a lot of time and material over an IDEX or similar for MM. And at any speeds faster than what I can do with my setup, they're loud as heck, but I live in a thin wall apartment and hate the noise myself.
So... I dunno. Decisions, decisions!
If you want a printer that lets you focus on printing instead of tinkering with and modifying your machine constantly, by all means get a Bambu Lab P1S. They are extremely capable and reliable machines when kept maintained, they are what most people end up modifying their P1P to be in the end, and are super clever in almost every detail. The software is a fork of Prusa Slicer with a few ideas of Bambu themselves sprinkled in which does need a bit of refinement. But over the last half year i have worked with my P1P it has been 90 % hassle free with minimal failures (apart from the ones I had with my first build plate). The P1S feels like Bambu is actually listening to what their customers say and watching what modifications are commonly done to the P1P and turned that into a product within half a year.
have you ModBot had to replace any spare parts, how long does it last before you have to replace parts?
Nope, I don’t anticipate I will need to for a while. I have swapped hotends for different nozzle sizes but that’s all.

@@ModBotArmy have you run into any issues with the hot purge bits melting the PLA bin? Some videos recommend using PETG for the bin part for that reason but if yours hold up with PLA then I’ll stick with that for now before moving on to more advanced filaments.
Bro, i feel like im gonna go mad. i ordered my A1 MINI like 3 days ago and im not suppose to recieve my mini till D-E-C-E-M-B-E-R... I really hope and pray the wait is worth it... i sent back my sv06 for it.. it was having driver issues though TBF... i didnt JUST send it back for the mini (as much as i did honestly really want to) hehe

Great upgrades for the printer. The biggest gripe I have with Bambu Lab printers is the proprietary attempts to lock you into their eco system, with the spools that work with the AMS along with the cloud slicer and locked software. What happens when (god forbid) the company shutsdown?
What if any company of any of your personal goods shuts down? Are you gonna stop buying car, smartphone, fridge, air compressor, hair dryer, etc? Most of those are set to fail and or are proprietary. But just so you are aware, Bambu Lab said that if the business was to shutdown, the source code would be shared. Paranoia at its best!
You can use any commonly sized spool in the AMS. The ones Bambu sell can be bought without the spool itself, which saves on a lot of plastic.
What cloud slicer? Bambu Studio is open source, runs locally on your machine, and can be substituted with any other slicer with the right profile.
Question, at the beginning of the video you mention how you can upgrade the A1 Mini hotend to a hardened steel end. Does this mean that you could use carbon fiber filament in the Mini with this upgrade?
Yeah exactly! Extruder gears are already hardened so all you need is the hardened hotend and you are good to go 😊

@@kevinrobb3523 Besides a nozzle upgrade to hardened steel, you may also have to purchase a high-temperature build plate. Make sure to do your own research though!

was there supposed to be a scraper and stylus in my box? never saw them if that's the case.
My standalone A1 Mini came with a scraper blade and screws to mount to a handle, and the scraper handle is one of the included test print files on the microSD card pre-installed with the machine. I found the included roll of white filament was enough to print the handle but not the stand/holder for the scraper.

I plan on designing an enclosure with built in 'poopa scoopa' so that all waste isnn't visible for a while then when it is full, take it to a waste place

According to my grandchildren an A1 delivered this week has a recall notice. Why is Bambulabs delivering faulty units that are not even registered with the Canadian govt recall database? This is probably a criminal violation or a good reason for a class action.

Carrying handle: I am not a TH-camr. So 99.99999% of normal users does not need it. For spare parts, unless someone is living in a 3rd world country, the parts will get delievered within a week. If I was making $1000/day with an A1 Mini (impossible), I would certainly have an inventory but it is a hobby for me (and most)! Having spare nozzle or fan is ok but this is it. Many 3D printer owners are on the paranoid side of things like if their life would depend on it.
