  • Chevy explains the window sticker! Big govt forced them to show the MSRP and options :) Chevy explains them and how to leverage for sales.
How to shut down the shopper...

Lets 'em see how much better the '55-57 looked than the parade float Chevy was putting out for '59.

Back in the 1950s-60s Chevy and GM had reliability as reflected in resale value like Toyota today.

I think they were all pretty similar.

That is an interesting point: if Chevrolets were in their full resale value, then whom were the second-hands for Olds and Buicks?

Year in and year out Chevrolet keeps the highest resale value. And because of its all new styling the ‘59 Chevrolet promises to be the resale champion of them all.

Milestone post here! Monroney Stickers! Fascinating - there's no suggestion that the sticker price itself can be negotiated. No "let me check with the sales manager" stuff in here!

They still haggled and had to get the final price approved by the "HOUSE!" :) I think the dealers had to deal with the MSRP now... it still a "fuzzy" number...

I seem to recall seeing a 1958 Edsel window sticker…I think it was on the Edsel Club’s website. Perhaps it was industry wide in ‘59, but some started it late in the ‘58 model year?

Phantom sticker...one created to look the way it would, had it been required in 1958

I wonder what dealer was the first to start the "additional dealer markup" concept for popular models and on what make and model of car it was. I know back in the mid 80's it existed because I went car shopping with my sister and the Mazda dealers had a huge markip on the 2nd gen 1986 RX7's. She had done her homework on what an RX7 should cost with a fair profit for the dealer and she had the money and was going to make an offer just below sticker price. They wouldn't even consider sticker price and tried to steer her to a 626 or something else they were trying to get rid of. We were frustrated that Mazda advertising had lured us onto the lot assuming sticker price.

Yeah I like the "strategy"... the final strategy is "we can't sell it for that IM losing money!"... Mean while the dealer owner is usually pretty wealthy :) And I do like the "were the big guys, we can give you more!"..

@@glennso47 I didn't like it when it came out... I thought the '58 Impala was really nice. '59 Chevy and Olds in '59-60 to me looked like the rear ends and front ends were designed in completely different rooms and never saw each other
