Mrs. Peel -- style, sophistication, liberated, a Lotus Elan, Swinging London and Champagne whenever a baddie was defeated. A fabulous icon from the fabulous 1960's decade. I have the Avengers theme on my phone. Like to pretend I'm part of that cool scene as I ride the 22 bus along the King's Road, Chelsea using my seniors bus pass.

That's Class..............shame the buses are no longer the old Routemasters.
Sadly, any swinginess must have evaporated by the time it neared deepest Norfolk, never reaching our boys' grammar school in '66. Was Swinging London really a thing, or just a publicity man's dream? The show's high production values ensured '60s life looked cool and pristine in that Avengers' fairyland, if you overlooked the many (weirdly bloodless) murders going on everywhere. Pity I'm an atheist as I'd so like to imagine Steed and Mrs Peel reunited at last.
Very rare to find intelligence, talent, and beauty in one person. Diana had it all. Miss her heaps.

A friend of mine had a Lotus Elan (mustard yellow). It was fast but unstable, uncomfortable and spares cost the Earth. But... when Emma Peel was driving one the magical combination made the car the best thing since sliced bread.

John Steed and Emma Peel were as close to the synergy of 'the thin man' couple Nick and Nora Charles (Myna Loy and William Powell) as has ever come about. They were witty, and comfortable with each other. Peel was strong and Steed had class and a strange sense of humor.

Me too. I was 9 years old and attracted to her. I just didn't know why at the time. To a boy, girls were supposed to be yucky. I ended up with a dark-haired, brown-eyed beauty and married her.

I was 7 or 8 when I watched this the first time and even at that tender age I thought there was something special about Emma Peel and she was one of the first women I ever really thought of as attractive. Seeing this again, all I can say is that 8 year old me had excellent taste.

I loved the Avengers. When I was in High school in 1965 The Lotus Elan was the car I wanted. They weren't practical cars-but I loved it.
Mazda bought two in England and brought them back to Japan, the Miata is their version of the "Peelmobile"

I drive a convertible today in part because of Mrs. Peel (and Laura Holt in Remington Steele). Wind in your hair, nothing like it, impracticality be damned! 😄 RIP Diana Rigg (and Honor Blackman in 2020 as well). Fun memories.
Absolutely crazy plots but Absolutely amazing. I'm proud to be in The Avengers cult .
I'm not sure we really watched for the plots. I think we just wanted to see the interaction between Stead and Peele. Also for the fantastically witty dialogue and obvious screen chemistry between the two leads.
I even dressed up as Emma Peel for a superhero party! RIP Diana!
She grew old too fast: her features seemed to harden and become more severe. Something similar happened to Ingrid Bergman by the early early '50s.

I watched every episode when I could. The Avengers was on a UHF station in Tampa back then. That little circular antenna on the back of the TV didn’t pick up shit back in the 60’s.
ive got all the episodes of the avengers in color. Once bought it somewhere, and now i cant find it anymore for the price i bought it a couple of years ago. Still one of the best British tv-series!

I LOVE the Lotus Elan! I bought one just because Mrs. Emma Peel drove one on "The Avengers." The car is so powerful, it got away from me twice - I am afraid to drive it! My cousin drives it to keep it in tune. It's a 1965 with only 10,000 original miles on it. I keep it super-clean and shiny and named it "Mrs. Peel."

the car is still registered with DVLA but remains untaxed. changed hands in 2013, probably in a lock up somewhere. or maybe on display in a museum. rigg was in the studio a lot and the elan was driven mostly by the stand in for outdoor scenes.
The producers went from a white one to a blue one when they went color and that first episode in color also had a FORD GT; From Venus with love (I think it was without engine though). I had a ride in a 1960s Elan in the 90s with friend on the 101 in LA and I cannot tell you how scary that experience was! First: he was an AWFUL driver, the car was a righty, and that car was tiny and I mean TINY! Then it stalled while we were in crazy fast traffic. Truly a horror show!
Interesting part was, when she was hired to do The Avengers, she didn't/couldn't drive. So many of the early scenes with her and the Lotus, the car was pushed in an out of the frame by stagehands until she could drive it convincingly herself.

And this friend is 39 and I had to explain to her who was playing Marjorie’s grandmother. Now, she wants to watch the avengers.

The 60ties ......last decade of real excellent soundtracks
Considering they came out 60 years ago, the Elan was a wonder of car engineering. They could generate 1g cornering acceleration and, at the time, that was better than any other car - including Ferrari, Maserati,Jaguar etc. They were very small and light. Probably best not to be in an accident in an Elan but an amazing car, nonetheless.

Guard Dog It was in a car museum in Keswick, Cumbria. I saw it there maybe 15/20 years ago. The collection was of famous cars from film, tv or just famous owners. Sadly it's been closed for a few years now. Many of the vehicles were sold on to US buyers. I've had a look at the list to see if the car was sold at the time of closer but it isn't listed, so the collector must have let it go at an earlier time. Hopefully some one with a passion for vintage cars of tv memorabilia has it now. But it was well cared for when I saw it.
The lotus was recently sold at the Silverstone auctions this year.
