They will vote for it only because they know there aren't enough votes to pass it anyway. That way they get to symbolically look like they support taxing the rich.

That is so true. It took me a while to understand how it could happen. For a long time, my wife was a republican because she came from a republican Catholic family who was all biblically named. Her family could be nasty about her being a lesbian; some refused to talk to her for several years, praying for her straightness. Claiming they had the right because they disagreed with her lifestyle and a quote from the brother, "I may lose some friends over my Christain believes" (She is your family, not your friend, blood is supposed to be thicker than water. My wife was hurt by her brother's comments to her on their father's deathbed where she grieved two losses that day).
I am unsure if it was because she didn't follow politics closely or the brainwashing by years of religious classes and news media. I mean, the family dinners were known for bashing democratic candidates for being murderers were intense, to say the least. They had my head spinning, and it was hard to tell what was fact from fiction. I didn't favor any party usually until recently. I never voted republican in the presidential but have in a small election; I was always looking for the less damaging candidate since most candidates can be sellouts.
It took her some time to see how dangerous Republicans can get. It's hard when the media campaigns for Republicans are everywhere with catchy slogans that invade every media type. Since I am a researcher, I tried to bypass the slogans and was able to discern the truth from fiction and passed her articles that were vetted instead of propaganda from either party's news source. The daily intervention was to save everyone from going nuts from fear-mongering to the self-hatred of constantly being told you are going to hell.
A couple years ago, there was a breakthrough. It was soon after her father's passing. He was a great guy, BTW. He was a Republican but didn't tell my wife she was a disgrace to the family. He was very supportive and respected her choices. She looked up to him. But something finally clicked. Maybe it was also the candidate who wasn't a good Christian with several divorces, which is a big no-no for Catholics. She saw the hate and fear the candidate was spread in his speeches and the hypocrisy of it all.
One recent karmic that happened to her brother was one of her nieces came out as a lesbian after being married to a dude and having two children with him. The dude was not very nice to her a cheat and her new wife is great to the kids, so win-win. The sad part her father refused to acknowledge her new family. Definitely not like his dad who would be disappointed.

I've known some gay republicans. I never understood supporting and voting against your own self interest for decades. They always had a very selfish world and political view that could rationalize and compartmentalize their reasoning for wanting to be a part of the GOP and were very hard to be friends with. I always knew how it would end for their loyalty. It's not surprising they are being so openly rejected by the party now. They have never been accepted by the Christian Right.

Mayor Pete is an idiot he's doing nothing as our transportation is falling apart all across the country lawsuits against Airlines because they're selling tickets they know they don't have enough Pilots or staff for praising or pretending he's any sort of benefit to America was a bad choice as an example of somebody doing good in America because he's just like the rest of the corporates doing nothing to protect the people as he rakes in as much profit as he possibly can

I live in a highly conservative area, so the vast majority of my friends here are straight conservatives, and I’m totally out and have been for decades. And while myself and my partner are always included and invited, there’s always that feeling that these people vote against my own, best interest and equality. I’m still baffled why somebody would be a gay Republican. The bottom line is I don’t believe they have a healthy self image. But I don’t know. 0:11
