    Not a bad price if you are only interested in 10m phone operation. I know that it's a modified CB rig. However, lack of proper frequency display and no CW mode is what would put me off. I suppose adding these features would hike up the cost though.

    This unit won't come close to AT6666, why? this model lacks proper modern full FRQ read out, it has the look of a 70s retro radio and deliver half the power of the AT6666.
    Antyone produces both models they call the above unit "Ares ll" . Those of us who are after a modern radio that is easy to use and have double the power understood this already, the difference in price is negligible.

    This is identical to the Ares ll in every way.For what it is it performs incredibly well especially the receiver,yeah there is a lot of useless and annoying facilities in there but once configured it is actually a pleasure to use.Good video little video 👍

    It is an Ares II, when you order a couple of hundred or more you can rebrand them like Radioodity did. Ares II is even in the FCC ID tag. I asked them about the microphone pinout, etc. It follows the Cobra 4 pin, here is an excerpt from their email, enjoy:
    Below is the pinout information for the speaker mic. I hope it will be helpful to you:

    The true look of a CB radio is what some users want. If it can be modified past the limited 4 watts of CB, there is no noticeable amplifier or heat sink. Some jurisdictions still use a contraband radio for cause to pull you over by the police.

    • @joemcmanus79
      @joemcmanus79 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might not have "CW" but you can "fudge it" by trying to work "Modulated FM".
      The regular CW crowd might have a bit of an issue copying but you could work cross mode with an FM station, get similar performance to CW and have some fun that way, admittedly the FM crowd might do a double take on hearing CW like tones coming out of their speakers, but just think of the possibilities. 😁

    Nice radio, I didn't know this even existed. At first, I thought it would turn out to be just a glorified CB rig, but I stand corrected. A quick search reveals a $200 price tag, not terribly bad considering the 40W output is real. Also there seems to be an "export" version which can do 24.715-30.105 MHz, which can be very popular in countries where there are no strict power regulations on the CB band. What I don't like is, there is no dedicated frequency display.

      Lincoln is a pretty decent monoband radio, dual PLL loop, proper RF finals, pretty bulletprooof if you remember to change that non polarised cap and nobody has dicked about with the low pass filters (you'll be talking to local air traffic control if they haven't done it right) and still, even now they're 35 years old, a number of rungs on the ladder above that Anytone Ares 2.

    To be brutally honest I don't understand why a radio like this exists in this day and age. The look of the radio harks back to the 1970/80s and is limited to channelised frequency selection which in my opinion makes the radio tedious to tune on the ham bands. If someone developed Ham / CB set to have a VFO and be able to switch over to channels for CB use, I think they would be on to a winner as you could get the best of both worlds. You mentioned that the radio has fixed filters which would suggest that it is a superhet type transceiver with MCU control which is becoming a bit old hat these days. I would be interested to see inside the radio. I guess people like the nostalgic look and feel hence why there is a market for this kind of thing. Interesting video as always.

    Yes it is the same as the ARES II, and it really is a great, fun 10m (and 12m) radio! I have been using mine to work 10m DX on SSB and FM with excellent reports. FYI, you can program 32 VHF FM scanner frequencies, not just 10! And you can change a lot of settings in the built in menu, without using the PC software. I actually prefer the SSB RX Audio with the RX Noise Reduction set to level 2, over my FTDX10 - I actually like it that much! (I have had many ham friends listen to the RX NRC side by side with my Yaesu, and they all agree too...) The recovered audio sounds nice.
    For me, this radio proves that you can't judge a book by its cover - this radio really works GREAT as a 10m radio. Some reviews (like the one by HRCC) was really misinformed and full of inaccurate information - the manual is excellent and it explains the unique features and how to use them very well, IMHO. Thanks for the great videos! I might catch you on 10m, using my ARES II :) 73
