The gun method seems to work very well with me. My boots have a zip on the side so I dont untie the lace unless I'm polishing them so the laces last about a week without coming undone

Pull the tail end of the oposite side with the loop, will give you a nicer tie. If you do an oxford tie, by pulling both loops with oposite tails through once each it will make the knot even stronger and in my opinion nicer tie, if done correctly

I didn't even do it the over top method. I just did it by doing the first basic knot then the same as the first way but with two loops. Ok I'm trying the underneath method and see how it goes.
