Autognome Battle Smith Artificer riding the Steel Defender is #1 on my list of characters I'd play in a Spelljammer campaign.
A garden gnome style autognome riding a mechanical lawn flamingo mount would be incredible
So, Gnomes have created Free will and Souls. That is.....absurd and amazing
THAT has always been my favorite part of gnomes…they make the truly wondrous possible.

I wish I knew how that worked, how hard it is to make a soul. How common is it for autognomes to be like this? It can't be too easy... think of the ramifications! The Nine Hell's soul economy! If devils learned they can just _make_ souls...
Is it replicatable? A fluke? Perhaps it's divine intervention from the Gnomish deities for the gnome's creativity, so that way autognomes can't be mass-produced or reduced to a formula to follow- that would retain the idea of them being truly special and one of a kind.
I've run a story arc in a campaign a long time ago that centered around an artificial human PC whose creation process was _wildly_ difficult and expensive for her creator and the PC still needed to go out of the way to work out a few flaws. Artificial souls are a very interesting topic to me because of that game.

I don't mind these guys, but it really feels like Warforged got done dirty by not being treated as Constructs.
I see Fresh Cut Grass big time here. The “beating heart” brought to mind his recurring “flesh tongue” horror!
Almost makes you wonder if Mercer knew that WOTC would be doing Autognome, or if WOTC is doing Autognome now to take advantage of FCG's popularity?

@@Jahnkasad he probably knew about it since hes written/cowritten books with wizards of the coast. i would imagine he was asked his opinion on some creatures.

I play an autognome clockwork sorceror who is basically Pino from Ergo Proxy in our Soelljammer Academy sessions. She's been following around our rogue and tteating him as her Vincent Law.
We are the auto-gnome. We will add your technological and arcanological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile.

Shout out to Acquisition Incorporated one of my fave campaigns ever. Really fun campaign to introduce adults with no previous experience into DnD.

With warforged being heavily split due to their dual nature. Warforged families being split and irreparable harm to relationships over it
Isn't that one of the potential plot points in Eberron and the warforged roaming the Mournland? I know if my players ever go there now then I'll be scattering some autognomes in amongst the ranks of the Lord of Blade's forces...
On the subject of different things an Autognome can be powered by how about a hamster on a wheel?

I play an eccentric, chaotic neutral autognome city cleric with a passion for celebrating literally anything and everything. needless to say, he causes chaos everywhere he goes.
When he said an autognome might be ran by a piece of the creator's heart...my first thought was a gnomish version of Tony Stark out there creating his suite to host his body because of some decease and he becomes iron man.

They were not forged for war, but because Santa's little helpers wanted new friends.
Different racial bonuses and made differently for tasks by their unique creator.

How difficult is it to make an autognome? Where do their souls come from? Can a gnomish smith farm soulcoins by trading his autognomes' souls with devils? Can gnomes crash the nine hells economy?

The Unearthed Arcana version doesn't.
Official version does NOT have dark vision. So miffed. Gnomes made them in their own image but made them without something that every Gnome has.
eh the auto gnome don't interest me. i always played warforged as constructs and i welcome the healing-based challenge. frankly more spells working for or agents' certain types wouldn't hurt.
Riddle me this. Gnomes have dark vision. Autognome monsters, from the same set of books, have dark vision. Auto Gnome PCs DON'T HAVE DARK VISION!

I think having Warforged, Autognomes and Glitchlings all be able to be repaired via traditional healing spells is a copout. They mention Data as inspiration. Data was never repaired in sickbay. Geordi was always having to deal with Data issues.

Autognomes? What? Are they gnomes who own cars & drive? Or is that an automobile brand made exclusively by gnomes? If so, I wouldn't want to drive 'em!
Gnomes were NEVER about "whimsy" and "tinkering" .. Not until Dragonlance came along and f'ed it all up... along with those kender and ridiculous gully dwarves.
