- This is my fountain pen review of a beautiful German piston filler made in West Germany. This example with the engraving "West Germany" was produced from 1982 till 1991. The original design from 1982 was changed in 1997. This model is called the old style Pelikan Souverän M400.
Great video presentation! One more detail worth to be mentioned, between old style and new style M400, is the difference in the nib design + in Old Style M400 we still have flex nibs in certain sizes but with Souveran or M400 new style the flexibility us almost gone.

I got an m400-tortoise (1984-1997) version. It has a 5mm long crack at top section of the barrel. I hope it won't cause a problem in the future. By the way I use the pen regularly and it writes like butter.

Great presentation. It's clear that you are an expert in Pelikan world. I have two questions:
1. Did they produce the Pelikan 400 nn gray striped from 1982-1997?
2. Did they produce the Pelikan 400 in the same period?

I am not an expert. All my information is from the site pelikan-collectibles.
Acording to this site the answer is:
1. Pelikan 400 nn was produced in this period of time: 1956-1965
2. Pelikan 400 (1950-1956).

I don't know. The Pelikan Souverän M1000 is a beautiful pen but like the Montblanc Meisterstück 149 it has not entered my collection. As soon as I buy them I will review them. I hope that 2022 will bring me the oportunity to own one of the two true "great" contemporany fountain pens.
