I also admire how this individual learned from his terrible mistakes and completely changed his life around. A lot of people would continue down the path of committing crimes or developing unhealthy coping mechanisms and becoming an addict or something even worse. It’s about learning and growing in life from the mistakes we make. When we don’t learn from them, that’s when there are problems.

This one hits home. I’m about the same age as him, from Jersey. I’m in Colombia the same year as him, I was an actor doing commercials for rexona (deodorant brand in Colombia). It was so dangerous back then. Every time I was down there I was approached with some offer to bring cocaine back to New York. It just wasn’t my thing but anybody could get caught up in it. Hope Oscar is doing good and glad he made it out

I'd love to talk to this guy. My dad was a drug mule back in the day in Costa Rica. Oct 13, 1999, he called me and said, "if you hear I'm dead, don't believe it". Exactly one week later I got a call at 6am from one of his "friends" that he was dead. 3 hours later the cops came to my door to tell me he was dead. I've spoken to a guy who was part of yhe relocation program in Canada and he said, at the time, it was impossible for this information to travel so quickly between central America and Canada

They had phones in Costa Rica in 1999 obviously, they would have had to pick up a phone, type numbers on it and talk. Unbelievably easy.

Honestly, I'm just relaying what a former "relocation" RCMP told me. It was an INTERPOL situation. Obviously, I know there were phones...I stated I got phone calls. I think it's more the investigation side of things

I traveled down in South America in the early 90's and spent five months in Ecuador, as well as Columbia and Peru. It's a very interesting place to visit. There wasn't many gringos down there then as it was considered too dangerous. There's nothing cool with smuggling drugs. Don't do it especially in foreign countries. Oscar is lucky to be alive and to get out. I'm glad he learned by his mistakes, and got on with his life, I wish him all the best.
