Little did the audience know that this song would eventually become one of the most known riffs in history! Man I would of loved to be there and I think everyone watching this video would of too! Woooo go Gun's!!!!
Slash and I at worked at Tower Video together in 85 just as GNR was forming. My old buddy of 38 years. We used to jam in the back room of the video store on our breaks and cruise sunset after work and I would drop him off at his grandmother's house afterward. Life goes by so fast.
This night was the best for the Voice in his entire career, live or in the studio. The outro to this video is mouth watering. Incredible tenderness and texture, massive power and exquisite melodic talent. You just can't beat it. 5:29
Interesting hearing the riffs when they were simpler, you can see how the song was originally constructed before they were worked up into the more complex ones when AFD was recorded a year later.
Incredible! This is right up there with the ritz performance of this song. Axls vocals were on point for this performance and slash was playing in the pocket. I also really like how he plays the riff over the verses on this performance too.
@Samsinge Honestly this is the best version of Sweet Chile o Mine that I've ever heard. Everything from Slash's altered solo, to the slowed-down jangly beat, to the varied ending part (where do we go, where do we go). This is just great and you're absolutely correct, it's a historical archive. I almost want to cry when I see this video. This is pure history.
Omg came to my suggestion after long time .... i used to be a crazy fan of Sweet Child o mine and collected most of their early live videos of this song ,during High school .... this is where i heard it and quite was one of my favourite live version
1986-97 - great voice 1988-91 - The voice were evolving 1992-93 - The voice was on its best NOW, on the album - its fucking great (he is 46 for god sake)...
1986, nobody knew them, well they were known in LA, but nowhere else... and this version of Sweet Child O' Mine sounds like the one from the demo tape from this time. Slash worked very hard on his riff/solo since then. It must be in the Troubadour in LA or one of the places they used to play right at the start of the band
awesome footage great to see what a recording contract and flash producer can do - not taking away that they already had the raw talent which we all know cause the became the best band ever Thanks Man
Wow axl outfit was so mind blowing. Crazy and so avant garde at the same time. Wkwkwkwk. He was so badass when he was young, especially at the bottom 😅
man they must have only just wrote that song, cause the arrangement is completely different. the opening lick is played over and over throughout. very very interesting, thanks for posting this FireJontte. and yeah the village people pants were a cack lol
Agree with what all of you said 14 years ago. His voice was perfect here. The video that followed this one might have even been better. Not sure! Love these early versions. They're all great. Axl's stylizing and outros - all of it. Slash's guitar endings. The back-up vocals and where do we go's. Thanks for posting. ❤
I read in Slash's book or somewhere that the "where do we go" lyrics were only added at the Appetite recordings which took place after this I guess, upon a suggestion from Tom Zutaut. Seems like they were always there
Probably the best version of live recorded and posted. Unfortunately, poor video quality but it is possible to hear that vocal is way stronger than later years.

unbelievable how much they improved in only two years
First time ive heard this song be announced/introduced...without at least 30-50 people screaming in eagerness! Mind blowing.
i like how he plays the intro through the verses, sounds sick
