Love that Amish SUV,one horsepower! Super, seeing that immaculate NKP PA,beautiful, and in its day, there were NYC PA's running along side! Thank you 😇! 😇
My grandson and I were at VA Transportation Museum today! What an awesome place! We waved at what we thought was the VRF cam, but missed it I guess. Could stay in the rail yard all day and watch those beauties come and go❤ 😃
Oh, my goodness, what a Fantastic Grab Bag, love seeing the Nickel plate rail cars again. What a spectacular sight to see two freights BNSF's racing from fort Madison over the bridge of the Mississippi river. enjoy seeing the anniversary edition of the Amtrak train, and BNSF as a double treat. never seen such gigantic doorknobs. also enjoy the triple trains at Fort Worth. there was plenty of equipment transported by rail, very important for business world. really enjoyed all the videos in this grab bag. thank you, keep up the excellent work!!
As of 3:30 Wednesday afternoon the Nickel Plate Road Alco PA sitting in Corning, NY by itself hooked up to a freight train. NS power had been taken away. Looks like next stop is Binghamton, NY the to it's new home 🏡 of Scranton, Pennsylvania 🎉.
No Baldwin RF16 cab ("Shark Nose") in this video. If your referent NKP 190 at 5:05 that is ex AT&SF 62L then D&H 18 Alco PA-1 heading for new excursion home on Genesee Valley Transportation and Steamtown systems.
Fantastic lash ups in locomotives and Freight and a look at an Amtrak train at the start, Very rarely have I seen a Canadian Pacific locomotive In the mix, Nice video in terms of Night imaging, Nicely captured in the light you had and all round just great stuff. We don't get to see Trains of such length in terms of general freight, the biggest we have in Australia are in the Northern parts of Western Australia with the Iron Ore trains and probably the only place we see American Heavy Locomotive power as well, Great to have watched this Video , Very Cool, Keep up the great work because it makes for Great Viewing for people like myself. Regards John
@18:22 OH, you want us to believe that little donkey engine on that platform car with that workman is what's pulling the mow train, that would be cool but the physics don't add up, like pulling a train with a 12 horse riding lawn mower, YEAH RIGHT.
Genesee Valley Trans probably best place for it as with their fleet of Alco locos in freight service they are the reigning Alco experts. Combine with their heritage appreciation and working with Steamtown in Scranton 190s excursion career should be amazing.
Don’t worry, it’s coming to Alco paradise! DL only uses vintage Alcos! They are going to fix it up and run it on their OCS and their excursions! It will be well cared for! It will be an Alco in the mountains, which if you ask me, if where they belong!
8:55 Got a feeling the ballast hopper dumping its load there (especially at the diamond) was NOT supposed to be happening! CORRECTION: Per below I was in error on this.
@@T_Hoog thank you for the info & history on it - Doyle McCormack did an incredible job it looks like it just came out of a factory brand new. I swear everyone I’ve known kept referring all vintage nose locos as a shark nose. I’ve heard bull nose once for the rounded, but most importantly, thank you for the correction on that!
That Alco PA-1 is the ex Santa Fe 62L, then sold to D&H as their 18 then went to Mexico where it was eventually wrecked and retired. 20 years ago Doyle McCormack of SP 4449 fame led rescue effort for it (and one other) and he has since been restoring it (rebuild, new trucks, new prime mover, etc) as childhood fave NKP 190. It has just been sold to Genesee Valley Trans in, appropriately, PA where they, as currently the leading Alco experts, will finish the restoration job so it can begin a new excursion career on their Scranton area, and other, lines.
No engine in a slug-just the traction motors and ballast added to compensate for equipment (engine, cab, etc) removed when old loco converted. It utilizes the extra horsepower available of diesel and generator at lower speeds of mated regular loco to power the slug traction motors thru added electrical and control cables.
If you go back and study the early history of railroad development, when the rails were THE primary transportation method, many towns wanted the lines to be as centrally located as possible. Especially for passenger service, and sometimes freight as well, central locations were desirable, even necessary. Over time many such layouts changed, modified and/or abandoned but a few, like La Grange, due to town layout, surrounding geography, etc where the cost and necessary effort excessive original layout remains. In La Grange they have embraced the arrangement and made it a surprisingly large tourist "cottage industry"-note the VR noteriety!

Always great to see these grab bags. Excellent catches. I especially watch to see the original cars made into model train cars.

I loved that old Farmall cub in LaGrange. I would love to have one of those. Great grab bag as always. Keep up the great work!!!

@Kenneth Hanks I sit corrected... I'd stand corrected, but I'm pretty tired today. 😂
@@SteveInNEPA1 Hey, I've gone that route many times myself!
4:54 Just my opinion, but it would have been neat to see the Nickel Plate Heritage Unit leading that train along with the Alco PA.
Who knows? Cross your fingers and maybe when GVT has the PA set up as a lead in excursion service it can have NKP Heritage Unit as a helper!
@@kennethhanks6712 That would be nice 🤞.
@@kennethhanks6712 I hop NS routes it up to Ashtabula to Buffalo to Corning to Binghamton to Scranton.
Hi Ken 👋
It will be going to bingingham and then into Scranton. I hope they pair it with NKP 514!

Just like McDonald's, I'm loving it!
Being in the UK the length of some of your trains would bring us to a standstill
I was gonna say you should play the "Green Acres" theme song for that tractor going by in Lagrange, but then most people would like "Green whaaat?"😂😂
Now that's a 🚂 race
Another great grab bag,thank you
The horn at the start never gets old
Keep grabbing those LEFC boxcars!!!!
I still get excited and think of days gone bye and the exciting times a new railroad had when starting up.
Last second stinker..lol.. Great BNSF race..
That was a great race! The slower train passing the first train had to give him a little toot on his horn as he caught up to him .

It’s a plus ballast train. It dumps precisely where needed via gps scan. The doors open and close to miss diamonds and crossings.

10:14 - I thought the Illinois Terminal engine was a John Deere engine at first.
I've heard various reasons, but can anyone answer why there is always a caboose on trains carrying the nuclear casks? Thanks!
Used to carry security team and monitoring equipment when loads are being transported.
Since the caboose carries DODX reporting marks, my guess would be for a security detail.
This grab bag is good
The good thing this is not smellivision
Why do those nuke containers have those bell ends like that?
I was watching the ns gray sonic engine live
Yay
Today I saw people almost got hit by a train
Did you catch it on video
5:05 👀who’s this handsome fella? Is he a vintage shark nose or something new?
@T Hoog Absolutely! When you query "Shark Nose Diesel" you get Baldwin RF16! The only two remaining privately owned and stored in Michigan.
