Gustin Selvedge Denim Review

  • In the world of selvedge denim it's easy to spend north of $300 for a pair of jeans. I don't understand how two pairs of pants made from the same material from the same factory can have such different prices. Brands like Gustin have made cool denim affordable, yes they're more than a pair of Levi's 501s but youre getting a much better product as well. Let me know what you think about this review of some Gustin denim!

    Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
    I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better.

    Great review, Carl! I would also add that choosing your size, you might want to take to consideration the denim's weight. If it is over 18 oz, I would recommend taking 1 size up from what their fit guide says.
    Size 33 at 23 oz would feel tighter than 31 at 12 oz.
    I got 11 pairs of Gustin jeans for the past 4 years and got my size wrong only once with my first pair.

    I've ordered 3 pairs of Gustin jeans and one shirt. The materials are first rate, as is the construction. My biggest issues are with fit, and in some cases durability. These are made for a certain body type, not mine. The rise is low and the thighs are cut pretty tight. If you have a somewhat big butt or legs, you'll have chronic crack attack with Gustins. Even when I go up a size I'm always pulling them up. Second, if you buy one of the lighter denims, the button holes will wear a lot quicker. But they're so unique, I have to recommend them.

    Ordered a pair of Cone Mills selvedge jeans in early March and they were delivered in August. While the textile, construction, fit and quality are excellent, they were absolutely not worth the wait time. I also have a Cone Mills work shirt pending since April. They are pitching a new campaign daily...seems they should focus on a core set of inventory and work on improving their follow-through. In truth, they would have to come up with something truly exceptional for me to consider doing business again.

      @@liljuanito123 They do run campaigns for the same items more than once. They did the same with my Cone 101 shirt. Your order should be shipped within the original time frame they gave you, but to be honest, don't expect it on time. I finally did receive my Cone 101 shirt - 5 months waiting. Not to scare you, but I can't justify the quality for the amount of time I waited. Also, I want to warn you that the fit is not going to be what you expect. My Cone 101 shirt is a classic cut XXL, and it fits like a size large slim fit. If I hadn't lost weight before I received it, I wouldn't be able to wear it at all. Good luck, Luis.

      @michaelbencze4323 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@liljuanito123 I would say yes, go up a size. I also have t-shirts where the XXL fits like a Large. Gustin states they don't do vanity sizing and have no waste. In industry terms (I was in the industry for almost 20 years) that means their manufacturing specs are very tight in order to control their materials cost...they want each garment to cost as little as possible to produce.
      Remember, if you lose weight, a tailor can always taper the shirt, but there's no material to let out.

    For Gustin sizing consider if the fabric is going to stretch. Typical denim should fit a little tight bc the fabric gives with time. Certain fabrics used by Gustin are tight woven and will not give at all. The Monster Bedford Corduroy was one of those. In that fabric I had to go up 2" compared to gegular Gustin denim. In general I would add 2" to what fits in
    levis/Banana Republic etc. If in doubt and with tight fabrics size up.
    I'm a big fan of Gustin clothing. For shirts I order 2 sizes up compared to traditional US brands. I'm 6'2" 205lbs. In g
    Gusting shirts I wear XXL. In brooks Brothers I wear size L. Considering XXL is the largest size they make big guys are going to be out of luck. Their sizing is closer to Italian high end fashion brands. A little anoying until you figure out the sizing. If in doubt size up.

    • @waterfordrs22
      @waterfordrs22 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds as if their shirts are a no go for me. I have about a 46 inch chest. If I measure a shirt that fits me well at the chest, per their suggestion and double it, it’s 52 inches. I think the Gustin XXL is around 47”. That’s a big difference and a bummer because they have a great aesthetic.
      Hopefully the jeans I ordered will work out. Going in a holding pattern until they prove a good fit.
      Thanks for the info

My on,y problem I guess is since they come in only one inseam (36") and I'm a shorter stature guy, how do you cuff yours...? The great thing about jeans is the way they fade over time. In the Gustin jeans in this video, the blue will still partially fade to white but there will be red too. What's that non-standard color combination going to look like, red white and blue? I have been wearing Levi's 501s since the late 1960s and never once scratched my vehicle on the rivets. It has never occurred to me that it could happen. It took Levi's generations to perfect the dimensions of the buttons in the button fly. If you make the fly buttons thick so they have edges, then little wear circles will appear on the fly over time. That is probably undesirable. Most importantly, are these Gustin jeans shrunk? If they are not, then surely you have to order them larger than your actual size.

    Looks like when I rub hot Cheeto dust into my jeans a few to many times.

    I'm a reseller and just found a pair of #24 The Slate grey ones. I had never heard of this brand, but I know quality when I see it. They are still pretty stuff, but I can tell they have been worn a couple of times. I listed them yesterday at the 1/2 price of new ones....we'll see how this goes.
