- Do you need laser safety glasses?
We use a Thunder Laser Aurora 8 Fiber laser with a protective lens in the enclosure to make viewing safe. However, if you are using a fiber laser without a door or enclosure, then you should be using safety glasses anytime you are laser engraving.
The glasses that we use, and are recommended by Thunder Laser are the FREEMASCOT IPL 200nm-2000nm Laser Safety Glasses. You can find them at the link below.

Here are the glasses I use: amzn.to/3Q4AQiF
I'm amazed at the orange shields that are sold with the fiber lasers, or promoted as protection actually don't protect at all. I read feedback from someone that they thought the shield they got was protecting their eyes and now they have blurry vision... the Commark model comes with a shield but it is the wrong kind... very dangerous...
Good info!
Do you need the goggles on while looking at the red laser or when it’s actually marking?
I can’t see the item when prepping the item with the goggles on.
No, the red dot laser for placement is totally fine without glasses. Treat it just like a laser you would get to annoy a cat.....as long as it isn't pointed directly in your eye, you are fine. :)
Hey, if I accidently clicked the start and forgot to close the door for a very short engraving (half a sec max) of a metal label, Have my eyes got damaged? is it certain or a possibility? Was I supposed to feel it immediatly? Thanks
So, I'm not an eye expert, but I would guess that you are probably ok, especially if you were not staring at the direct point of lasering. Of course, if you have any discomfort, I would contact an eye doctor.
