I have the Olympus 12-40 mm f2.8. It is a great lens at a reasonable price. The new Panasonic 10-25 mm is great, I'm sure but it is nearly twice the price. I shoot live theatre, concerts and dance shows f 1.7 would be nice but I don't need it. I do agree with you, that when you're shooting video variable aperture is a pain.
I mostly use a GH5 and sometimes a GH4 and an Olympus EM mark III. I use a Panasonic-Leica 12-60 lens for most of my shooting. The 10-25 mm lens would do better in low light, but I hesitate to spend $1,400 for a lens that would probably not be much of an improvement.
You should rewatch this video again. It really does address your hesitations about cost. However, what he did not mention, is the Leica 1.7 zooms usually cost $300 more, which means they are currently discounted… I recently acquired both the 10-25 and 25-50/1.7 for roughly $800 (including tax) less than what they would have cost. They are my first pro lenses from Lumix/Leica, and thus far, I don’t regret the purchase… On the GH5II, they perform better than expectation, in including AF… …
Can you recommend a lens for indoor filming on a tripod for example say at your kids school play and you need to zoom in on your child then zoom out to the whole stage? But you are 15-20 feet from the stage.
As far as none of those working well, what is the issue? Do any of those work well for the zoomed on or out shots? I’m trying to gauge what to suggest based on what’s working for you.
(4:50) I have been using both of the Leica 1.7 zooms on the GH5II, and the AF has been pretty much spot on. I also have most of the M.Zuiko Pro lenses, and the AF is just as usable too… …
Sure! Olympus makes a 17mm ( amzn.to/43DVT1V ) and a 25mm ( amzn.to/3TAgpvY ) that give you equivalent focal lengths of 34mm & 50mm, respectively. But that f/1.2 ain’t cheap!
Hi wonder idc you could help, I'm looking at a using a couple GH5 II's as a cameras for filming or live streaming live theatre 7 cabaret performances. due to its sensor being able last the long lengths of a live show. But I'm worried about its low light capabilities even with stage lights it'll most shoot a distance from the subject and zoomed or wider further back shots in a venue. What lens would you recommend in that instance? Thanks.
You’re going to be looking at some really expensive lenses for that. I’d personally go with something like the a7C with a full frame sensor. No recording limits either. What’s your budget?
Hello Gamber, My name is Nephry, I really like your videos on TH-cam, they are very practical... I use a Panasonic gh5s and I have a Lens sigma 18:35... I wanted to know, are you do you have any videos that help setup my gh5s cameras or best way to set up camera to make cinematic videos? THANKS
No, I don’t have any specific settings videos for Panasonic cameras. But camera settings are the least of what makes a video look “cinematic.” As long as you’re at 24 fps and 1/50 or 1/48 shutter speed depending on what your camera offers, then you’ll have the right camera settings. Making it look cinematic has a lot more to do with lens choice, depth of field, framing, and lighting.
Thank you for the video and explanations. Interestingly I have been narrowing down to these as well for a G9 and short product videos. ( 1 -3 minutes) So far everything i do is with the PL 42.5 nokticon and it the low light performance and image quality is our default for better or worse. I have wondered about about just getting the PL 12mm prime and doing the 12 - something video zooming electronically, either in camera or post for colors matching the 42.5. ( 1080 p ) Is this viable or would require a ridiculous amount of processing power? Thanks
@@CamberFilmSchool Thank you, good insight. I need to think about if the "look" aspect is important to me or not in my own work. Sounds like I need to rent and test.
That’s the best way. I like lensrentals.com. They have great prices and you can buy gear that you’ve already rented and they’ll subtract the rental price from the gear.
What would you recommend for 1 zoom lens for filming pool content in pool halls . (All Video) Filming on my IPhone 15 pro max right now and want to upgrade to the Lumix GH7. Looking for the best image quality, great colors, and ease of use. Debating between the Leica 12-35 2.8 / the OM 12-40 2.8 Pro / and of course the Leica 10-25 1.7. If I were to get 1 to start and future proof it for the best value, what would you recommend?
The quality will likely be the same IF you have adequate lighting control. That f/1.7 will make a HUGE difference in quality because it lets more light in along with giving you even more depth of field options.
I’ve never used them. But if they have autofocus that works well then I’d be good with them. Good AF is one do the most important things to me since I’m typically filming stuff alone.
I am in a tough spot. I got the 15mm f1.7 and kinda wish ive gotten the 9mm f1.7 instead. Because now i want 12 35 because of thr zoom, but also want wide lens at the same time for real estate practice
Is there a specific reason you want a zoom? Since you already have the 15, you can get the 9 and later on get a 35mm. The lower f/1.7 aperture and it being a prime lens will give you better overall quality. Aside from doing things like a dolly zoom or fast zoom in/out, you don’t need a zoom.
@@CamberFilmSchool oh yeah u are right, is the 9mm enough for real estate you think? Bc I see everyone saying to get the 7.5 laowa but I want autofocus too. And it's good bc I have a 35mm alr too but it's a big cine lens but it's fine

Yea, it’s definitely costly, but a quality $300 light would be just as beneficial.
You shouldn’t hesitate cuz for me, switching from 12-35 to 10-25, the improvement is huge, almost feel like I got a new camera body.

It’s possibly but definitely a lot more work. And zooming in on 12mm footage isn’t going to give you the same look as a longer focal length.
