  • Infiniti's Intelligent All-Wheel Drive provides power and support where and when you need it, instantly adapting to the changing conditions of the road. By constantly monitoring wheelspin, throttle position and vehicle speed, this system automatically diverts up to 50% of the available power to the front wheels, enhancing traction and control when conditions are less than optimal. When all-wheel drive is not needed, the system sends 100% of the power to the rear wheels for more responsive road performance.

    I was driving on an icy highway. I had to accelerate to get away from the splash zone of a 18 wheeler. I had my winter tires on my G37xs. It accelerated steadily and didn’t pull to the left or right on uneven road surface. The awd system sorted it all out. I was so impressed by it. It made me a believer.

    Mannn... it was raining hard as hell last week with minor flooding in my area where I use my car to make deliveries and my 06' Infiniti M35x handled those puddles like a champ. The AWD system coupled with the VDC system made my car say: "What rain ?". The car was so damn smooth, it might as well have been a clear normal day outside cause that's how my car made me feel. My car flexed its muscles and made me feel like a proud and smart owner.

    The way my ex30d gets up a snowy hill amazes me. You can literally floor it, there's a slight delay, as if its doing its checks or something and it just goes where you point it. I've been driving 20 years and had over 80 cars but nothing else will cut it now, it doesn't miss a beat

For AWD models, INFINITI recommends that towing dollies be used when towing the vehicle. Both models may be towed using a flatbed truck. An Acura is a FWD bias vehicle. Like my mom's 2008 Honda Ridgeline, it has a transverse mounted engine, trans-axle, power take-off unit (PTU) and a rear-differential. Under normal conditions, power is primarily sent to the front wheels (70% to the front and 30% to the rear.) When accelerating hard or when slippage is detected the vehicle will engage the rear wheels more by applying pressure to two sets of clutch packs built into the rear differential. So, it is a sort of All-time all-wheel drive, meaning power is constantly being split between all four wheels. The G37x is more like a BMW X-drive or KIA Stinger with AWD. These vehicles are normally RWD and AWD when its needed. They have a longitudinal mounted engine, transfer case (like a pick-up), rear differential and front differential. Since they use a transfer case, power is supplied directly through the transfer case, much like a pick-up, to the rear wheels unless an actuator is engaged to distribute power from the transfer case to the front wheels. In a nutshell, that's the difference. Ever since I got my first AWD vehicle, I have taken a real interest in these various AWD or 4WD systems. A lot of them are very similar, but have different names and claims depending on the manufactures. I would suggest watching some videos regarding BMW x-drive (very similar to the G37x, but explained better) and SH-AWD. Then, you'll get a visual of each system.

    Pretty much all AWD vehicles do this nowadays. Using ABS Brake Lock to vector torque side to side is NOT unique to Nissan/Infinity... and disconnecting either the Front or Rear Wheels in an AWD system is also commonly used. I would really love to have someone tell me exactly how intelligent AWD is superior to other brands because it's really not clear and I suspect it's not... you can't reinvent the wheel so to speak.... and anyone that says its different because "it decides where to send traction" is literally just someone I could not have a technical Mechanical discussion with at all because they have no idea what they are talking about and just parrot brochure tag lines.

    • @rickdangerous5606

      The drive has apparently been "intelligent" for at least 7 years now... with no improvement to date. They still market this today. If it's intelligent, it should strive to do better. At any rate I was pointing out more or less that the term "intelligent AWD" means nothing.

    • @brucehadley69
      @brucehadley69 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't think you understand. The Infiniti ATTESA-ETS system is different because it decides where to send traction. Let me know if you would like to have a technical mechanical discussion at all about this system.

    • @rickdangerous5606
      @rickdangerous5606 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't "decide" anything so to speak... not like its an A.I. operator I mean... these systems from all manufacturers pretty much work the same way. The wheel speed comparative to each wheel is measured, and then the systems activates(though some torque converter method or disc clutch system), a measured amount power to the front(RWD) or rear(FWD). ABS is used to vector the power from side to side. The system doesn't know if the roads are wet however if you activate windshield wipers it can be programmed to assume its wet outside... as well, ambient temperature probes could lead the hard programing to react based on the fact that traction could be limited due to cold weather ... furthermore if it's cold outside AND you have the wipers going the system could assume its cold and rainy or cold and snowy... and depending on throttle position requests from the driver, and the resulting wheel spin of any, they could narrow it down to more likely snow outside or rain... then based on the manufactures own R&D testing of the platform, devise a logic based computer program...
      Just saying "it decides where to send traction" makes you sound like a salesman.
