Would love you to do a story on old homes that still exist in Goose Hollow area including the Jacob Kamm house that was moved there in 1950 and the nearby area where Eric Ladd stored old building facades from classic buildings that were demolished.
Yea I love this idea. This is gonna be fun. I'm stuck home with that covid. It's been a ruff one so thank you for getting me out of the house without really leaving.
In so sorry you’re having to go through that, but glad to help even if just a little bit. I’m really hoping to do more of these soon. Hope you’re feeling better soon!
I work in Portland and am all over the place. I have seen all of these locations in person, but you really bring it to life! Thanks for your hard work!
WOW! This is so awesome! Another great source for vintage photos is the Sellwood Bee. Dana Beck writes great pieces on the history of Sellwood with a lot of photos. Many of the buildings are still standing with former businesses, and even a church, now turned into homes! I greatly look forward to seeing more of your videos! Great work!!
After thriftway bailed out, there was a "Speck" restaurant featuring KFC at the west side of the building. The sign had a huge image of the Colonel and the eyes moved from left to right. Used to creep me out as a kid. Mid-sixties, I recall.
I'm still can't believe those pump houses are not for that castle I thought was up there somewhere.....bye bye childhood imagination... it's great to see people taking interest in the history of Portland
I'm trying to remember wasn't that where the apartments are next to the pump house? And cant remember if they took that out to build the other one up there or just removed it
And it wasn’t just the Fred Meyer occupying the space. Out front there was a coin-op laundromat and dry cleaners, a shoe repair shop, a small salon and an ice cream parlor called Bressler’s 33 Flavors. Across from the main building (where the Petco is now) was an optometrist and optical practice.
I was born and raised in the Hawthorne Belmont area and still live here born in 1957 so these photos are what I saw as kid thanks for the great memories
When I was a kid 80th & Stark still had Dickson drugs in that very spot. Montaville/Stark street was a dead duck after the movie theater closed and was the nickle ads place after then back to a movie theater. There use to be an old school diner where Rosco's is or was. Not sure what's in that corner building these days. But flying pie was getting ready to move in ,in just five or six years from that time. There were a man's Barber shop and a ladies hair salon. The barber was across the street from the barber that's there today. Anyway, thx for the memory lane trip. I grew up right down the street on 76th
So funny - when you were walking on 67th off Glisan I was like “wait, I recognize this street” and sure enough the house I grew up in was there. My grandma also lived off 45th and Glisan near the Greek church and I love seeing the old Laurelhurst columns.
The fact that you were wearing a mask outside… Yikes, I’ve lived in Portland, my entire life and I haven’t worn a mask once… Why because it’s not needed
I really love watching the old and modern comparisons with pictures. It's so cool to see how much everything has changed.
I agree! The before & after views of an area that Steve does are great. He`s meticulous about matching up structures & street views as well.

Also, the DMV was across the street(where I got my driver license)
Enjoying your videos very much! Any that include Woodstock area and Mount Scott?
Heck yeah, dude! This is exactly what i love to geek out on. I grew up in Portland, too.
I'm still can't believe those pump houses are not for that castle I thought was up there somewhere.....bye bye childhood imagination... it's great to see people taking interest in the history of Portland
I love revisiting the pass . it's great. thank you!!
You should try some of these comparisons in the winter, when the trees have less leaves.
I just old enough to remember when the they took out the reservoir at SE 60th & Division. At least they left the pump house.
I'm trying to remember wasn't that where the apartments are next to the pump house? And cant remember if they took that out to build the other one up there or just removed it
Finally Steve, you showed up in my suggestions yay!

I remember when the building at Stark & 80th was Everybody's Record store, 70's.

Wonderful! I appreciate appreciate your work.
10:18 "a long way from home"
Blocks away from where I've lived for 35 years.
This video is why I love your channel. I'd love to do this! Chasing history!
Check out the Portland Then & Now hardcover photograph book, it's GORGEOUS
Awesome video! I gotta check out that site for the vintage photos.
I worry that the old houses and buildings will soon be torn down. Thank you for making this video.
Thanks much Steve! I have enjoyed all of your videos, but especially the "then and now" ivds. Hope to see more.
Great video!
Great video, I always love seeing the 'historic version' of familiar places! Great narration also, thanks for putting this together.
The IVY covered building is the original BElmont central telephone office I believe.
Awesome! Very interesting
You walked right past my apartment in this video. So glad you filmed in this area I’ve wondered about it for so long
Excellent!!! I love this. Thank you for the heads up on the web site I'll check it out for sure.
