My ranking of Stanley Kubrick movies: 1. The Shining (1980) 2. Dr. Strangelove (1964) 3. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1969) 4. Clockwork Orange (1971) 5. Barry Lyndon (1975) 6. Eyes Wide Shut (1999) 7. The Killing (1956) 8. Full Metal Jacket (1987) 9. Paths of Glory (1957) 10. Lolita (1962) 11. Spartacus (1957) 12. Killer’s Kiss (1955) 13. Fear and Desire (1953)
Dr. Strangelove (1964) is a Black Comedy about the seriousness of the Cold War at the height of the Cold War. It’s truly funny at times but gets serious as well. Peter Sellers played three completely different roles and it’s one of the the best performances by an actor in any movie. He should’ve definitely won the Oscar for best actor. An absolutely memorable movie.
Great video. I do think 2001 is his best its just such an epic piece of film making, it might be the best film ever made. I saw Barry Lydon much later than I did most of his other films but over the last 10 years or so its grown on me so much that I think I can confidently put it at number 2 and thats saying a lot. I mostly agree with your ranking the one I object to though is Dr Strangelove thats definitely a top 5 Kubrick for me. It's just such a brilliant timeless black comedy and i've always loved Peter Sellers
@NeekoWatchesMovies I am loving watching your ranked videos and I think I you said David Lynch is your favourite director and he's mine too so much love to you
Very well done video. Recently, I’ve decided I’m going to watch all Kubrick’s films. I’ve only seen 4 thus far. Barry Lyndon, Paths of Glory, The Shining were all amazing films to me. Eyes Wide Shut was my least favorite (but still good). What do you recommend I watch next based on this?
Great list! Mine would be 13. Fear And Desire 12. Killers Kiss 11. Spartacus 10. 2001: A Space Odyssey 9. Lolita 8. The Killing 7. Paths Of Glory 6. Barry Lyndon 5. A Clockwork Orange 4. Full Metal Jacket 3. Dr Strangelove: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb 2. The Shining 1. Eyes Wide Shut
It’s funny not even an hour before finding this video I was looking back at my previous ranking of Kubrick’s movies and decided to update it because it had been 4 years since I created the list and my opinions have definitely changed in the last 4 years: 1. A Clockwork Orange 2. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 3. The Shining 4. 2001: A Space Odyssey 5. Barry Lyndon 6. Eyes Wide Shut 7. Full Metal Jacket 8. Spartacus 9. Lolita 10. Paths of Glory 11. The Killing 12. Killer’s Kiss 13. Fear and Desire
We're so alike. I also love the scene, from Dr. Strangelove, of Keenan Wynn saying "you're going to have to answer to The Coca-Cola Company" while we are on the brink of World War III. It's Priceless
Good list man, rarely do I say a movie is 10/10 but I think a clockwork orange, the shining, and eyes wide shut reach those highs for me. Haven’t seen Barry Lyndon yet but I’ve been meaning to.
First time I watched Barry Lyndon it dragged on and on. It was a painful and absurd experience. I’m watching this thing wondering where it’s going and when he gets shot in the foot during the duel I burst out laughing. When it was over I thought “what is the point of this movie.” Few months later came back to it. Then came back to it again. There’s something about it and I get it now. There’s a scene when they’re getting married and you get a view of the top row of people. And the way they are dressed and done up is hypnotizing. As are some of the candlelit scenes of cards and poker. It’s not my number 1 choice but it’s growing on me. Hard to rank his movies because you’re always prisoner of the moment with whatever film you last saw. It’s Halloween so I’ll go with The Shining as my top slot. My top 5: 1 Shining 2 2001 3 Full Metal Jacket 4 Barry Lyndon 5 Eyes Wide Shut 1.
I don't have an opinion about his earliest movies, but I at the very least like all of his notable outings: 1. Barry Lyndon 2. Full Metal Jacket 3. Paths of Glory 4. Eyes Wide Shut 5. Dr. Strangelove 6. A Clockwork Orange 7. 2001: A Space Odyssey 8. The Shining 9. Spartacus 10. Lolita
Oh, you’re my typa dude. Paths of Glory and Barry Lyndon in that top 3. Honestly FMJ i wanted to put higher, as my first time watching it, that movie really enthralled me
You got everything on there except for his first two movies. The Killing, is a great and influential heist movie if you have never seen it. Fear and Desire is Kubrick's first movie that he later renounced but I find it rather interesting. It is a war drama set during a fictional WW3 type scenario.
@@NeekoWatchesMovies I think Kubrick was the greatest filmmaker to ever live. Every single one of his films from The Killing to Eyes Wide Shut is incredible. I can't think of any other filmmaker with such a track record.
You could have skipped his first two (college made) films because they aren't even official & u could have skipped Spartacus because he literally had no control over that film whatsoever & was just hired to direct the way they wanted him to so technically there is only Ten Kubrick films in all honesty!!!!
@NeekoWatchesMovies yep but it's nice u still added them regardless even though u shouldn't of because it's still film history at the end of the day regardless & u could have just been lazy & skipped those but u didn't so I respect you for that ❤️💯

@PeddlerPablo i really wanted to love Barry Lyndon but to me it was beautifully shot and created but also incredibly boring and slow and long. And none of the characters were remotely interesting to me. I feel like the wag most Kubrick fans feel about Spartacus is the way I feel about Barry Lyndon. Kubrick most overrated film for me
What is your favorite Stanley Kubrick movie?
2001: A Space Odyssey

I had a hard time focusing on "Fear and Desire", I kept being distracted by how much one of the soldiers looked like Jango Fett.

The funnier fact is that Kubrick's one Oscar win was in 1969 for Special Effects. The same year of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
