1975 I was listening to this at 6:30am on the radio on my way to work,,,,,,,,,I had to pull into a parking lot because I couldn’t see for laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. 2020 I’m 64 yrs old now and it still make laugh hard! Don’t get no better!
R I p Charlie thanks for all the years on the road gang 🙏 there will never be another one like Mr Charlie some one please bring that kind of stuff on radio 📻 wonderful job charlie
Charlie Douglas was the pioneer of trucking radio. He and Dave Nemo and "The Road Gang" Kept truck drivers awake for many a mile at night, me being one of them. These stories are timeless as well as priceless. God bless you Charlie! Thanks for all the good times!!
Charlie Douglas...I used to listen to The Road Gang on WWL when I was growing up...this was a man who knew how to put a smile on someone's face...God Bless You,Charlie...and thanks.
Used to wake up in the night listening to 700 WLW in Cincinnati and hear Dale Sommers ("The Truckin' Bozo") play these classics. Thanks for putting these up for everyone to hear some classic materials.
I was thinking about old Charlie and the Charlie Douglas Road Gang one time, and I remembered some music that he played at the end of his show but I could not remember what it was. I was wishing I could hear that music again and remember old Charlie. Well I don’t know how it happened but somehow on TH-cam I ran across Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood”. I just said it out loud, “That’s it!”, and it was. If I remember correctly, he also used to play the fiddle music at the end of the Charlie Daniels song The South‘s Gonna Do It Again at the end of his show. The Charlie Douglas Road Gang. Certainly a favorite memory of mine.
Growing up in Michigan..I picked up the Road Gang from WWL...late night radio was the best back in the day..I used to love the weather reports from all over the nation..good old days!😀
Charlie had the "gift" as some do for telling stories like this. In my mind I can see it all happening and that is what made them so great! God Bless Him!
Glad you enjoyed it. It was from the LP, I found it at a Goodwill store back in August. The day before I found the album I bought one of those Ion USB turntables that you can convert vinyl to audio files so decided to buy the record and put some of the tracks on TH-cam.
Sorry to report that Charlie Douglas passed away on Thanksgiving. Got to know him well, during my time as a trucker radio host, and while working at WSM.
There was a story about a man who used wild mushrooms for a dinner party and thought he had poisoned his dog and had his guest stomachs pumped and later found out that old spot had been hit by a car. Any truckers listening to all night trucking radio have probably heard it and I can't. remember who did it.
No One could tell a story like Charlie Douglas. No One else can fill these shoes.
Spent many nights with Charlie Douglas, Dave Nemo and Big John Parker keeping me company and entertaining me on the radio. Ahhh, those were the days!

Again thanks for posting this. Love it!
Thanks for replying. I'll have to add the talking outhouse story soon.
It's a planting bugle. It's got a flared end and sort of a funnel at one end.
