I love that you go stright to the point. I've found that a lot of the backsmiths on youtube go on and on about nothing, when i just want to see how the task is done. Great video! Subscribed.
Thanks man, these are so cool! Some of them look really complex, but you did a great job simplifying the process. Will definitely be using that cube twist in the near future!
Thank you for this video, i have a box of 40 or 60 railroad spikes, and i wanted to make them look more interesting than the simple "normal" twist, the pineapple and square/rubik's twist are my favorites.
Very simply, concise instruction. Such a refreshing change. Excellent. These things needn't be limited to ornamental work. Working on a tapered, and slightly modified bar, you could knock up a handy little set of screw detractors. Worth some further investigation. I'd always intended to play round with the techniques to get a bar for a large sized Archimedean drill. Something a couple of feet long to use when working stone, and not wanting percussive tools. This stuff can lead to drill bits, augers etc of people want to investigate
If you don’t have a welder to make a double end twist wrench you can slide a snug piece of pipe over your bar and it will keep it from kinking. Thanks for the video 👍
You talk more than I usually like, but you use your talking to actually explain what you're doing and your video ends up being instructive enough. Proof that preferences are subjective, but quality is objective. Good job.
One of the best twist tutorials on youtube. Is that tool at 3:26 or anything like it, ideally wider for grooving standard 6" rail spikes in one good whack, available commercially? I just don't know who or what would use a chisel so wide and thus where to look for it.
Before this video I just wanted to do some bladesmithing, I had very little interest in blacksmithing... But those twists are awesome... Those axe pendants are sick too.. Definitely gonna have to share this with some buddy's
Thanks for the instruction I have done all of them except the alligator twist. Think I will make a poker with that full length. The pineapple is the one that gives me the most headaches. Trying to do it on to small of stock so it never comes out right.
Possibly a dumb question but im new to forging. If you were to forge say the rubix Or alligator twist into a billet to make a knife would it retain the pattern if you etched it? Or just end up with cold shuts for days or something similar?
I’d like each one of those made into a knife! Do you need to flux the material when you start forging on it? That would be a good video making something out of those now!
Made it look easy. Love that you don’t make it more complicated than it should be. 👍

Thx for taking the time to demonstrate. Very interesting and appreciated...
I like your style. Quick and to the point. Really like the look of the square twist. Simple yet elegant.
If you don’t have a welder to make a double end twist wrench you can slide a snug piece of pipe over your bar and it will keep it from kinking. Thanks for the video 👍
Very good. Thanks for showing those basic twist. I will use those on upcoming projects
Damn son, great, simple video. No fuss and just the stuff we need to know.

Omg I didnt knew how to do the cube one, Suscribed
Do you have a video on how this looks/works with Damascus knives and the pattern it makes?
Bravo mate- been looking for a bit of a spruce up for my drawer pulls- Bravo!
Thanks for the instruction I have done all of them except the alligator twist. Think I will make a poker with that full length. The pineapple is the one that gives me the most headaches. Trying to do it on to small of stock so it never comes out right.
I wonder if it would be possible to use one of these twist methods on the blade of a knife and still see it, or if the design would be lost?
Thanks John, enjoyed see the video! Take care!
Thani you very much!! some new ideas allways are very usefull! Also, you explained your selve very clearly. Nice video

You rock! Awesome!
brilliant video. I'd have liked it more if you'd slowed down a bit, but even so great technique. Came here via Jay Bates.
Thanks, man!
why made that first hammer? it looks like D moslers work
I’d like each one of those made into a knife! Do you need to flux the material when you start forging on it? That would be a good video making something out of those now!
this was done most likely with mild steel (it won't harden so won't hold an edge) you only need to flux something if you are forge welding.
Good stuff.
WOW ! Thank you
cube twist is fucking awesome
2 pipe wrenches?
mind blown
