Holy crap! I discovered this channel today and I'm new to sewing, after watching this video and taking a few notes I made my first item of clothing ever and OMG it turned out SOO good! I highly recommend trying this! It turned out great!!
This was super straightforward and easy even with my sometimes finicky sewing machine! Love that the length was up to you and the instructions were really clear. I used some repurposed thrift store vintage-esque bedding and it turned out fabulous! Will definitely come back to this tutorial.
Thank you for this video! I just made my first skirt (first piece of clothing period) and it turned out so pretty! I'll definitely be making plenty more for my daughter and myself.
I just discovered your channel and really like it including this tutorial!! What I REALLY WANT is "how to make a very very easy blouse" to go with the skirts!! There are not many videos at all for blouses that can go with the skirt you just made!! Please do a pull over blouse tutorial with sleeves!! Thank you!!
I feel the same way I would like for some to do an easy to follow tutorial on how to make a shirt. What I've seen is not easy to follow and it's not beginner friendly.
Thank you! I don't have a sewing machine so I'm going to hand sew this. I need skirts that fit. Its hard to find the right size in the stores because I'm between sizes. This video is a lifesaver.
I sewed the hem after making the casing and sewed the sides together last since it's easier to sew a straight piece of fabric instead of a circular one imho
2 problems i had with this skirt.. 1 - the frilling around the edges of the skirt and 2 - the end stitch as you had to stitch around both sides but it wouldnt work on the sewing machine so i had to hand stitch hopefully it holds up! Thanks heaps easy to follow steps!!
I got a sewing machine for Christmas and I practiced a lot. I always wantend to make a skirt but I didn’t know how. Thank you so much for learning beginners how to make that kind of things. It really helps xxx
You made that look so easy. Great detailed description!!! I’m new to sewing 🧵 I have some fabric I’ve been waiting to use...but too scared. Now I feel confident I can make it to something beautiful. Thanks 🙏 so much for making this video ❤️❤️❤️
I loved this video! Thank you❤ I have a question though..why do you have to double the waist size? I was confused on that whether it would be humongous after sewing everything.
Hello, thank you so much for making this tutorial! I plan on following this tutorial to make a skirt, except I have to make it by hand and I had a question about the side seam. In the tutorial you make the casing thingy for the elastic first and then you sew up the side seam, but if one were to do this by hand, in what order would you complete the steps and how would you finish the inside of the seam without closing up the opening of the casing? Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm quite new to sewing and I'm not too sure how to approach this
Hi Lindsay, great skirt tutorial, very easy to follow, though it took longer than thirty minutes, I'm new to clothes making, I'd also like a simple top pattern. Keep up the good work.
Hi! Thank you! For some reason both of the ends of the elastic needed up on the same side is that what happend to yours? I couldn’t really tell? Thanks
Is it the same idea if only a small section at around the back of the waistband has elastic? I don't want the whole waistband to be elastic, just one section.
Question… if your waist is 27” but you doubled it when you cut the fabric, wouldn’t that give you a 54” waist? Instead of doubling shouldn’t it be 1/2? 13 1/2 x 2 = 27. Maybe I am visualizing it wrong.
I have been seeing a awhile and I finally found a video that showed me how to make a skirt THANK YOU Lindsay I have watched so many videos and just gave up until I seen this video now I can make my kids skirts
hii! I love sewing a lot and I found your video very helpful so thank you so much! 💕 I was wondering what model is your sewing mashine is? I was going to but one for myself but don’t know which one to choose :c
This was a really easy to understand and helpful tutorial. You didn’t over complicate anything and you went slow enough to make it easy for beginners. Thank you
Thanks for this tutorial!! But, what I'm looking for is a "simple" dressy top to go with the skirts without darts. I need a high neck, pullover top. There are very few vids for simple tops!! Can you make a video about this including non-stretch fabric? It cannot be a T-shirt. I need a dressy blouse/top! Thanks!!
I will look into making that! Thank you for the suggestion! For now, www.merricksart.com/category/sewing/tops is a great sewing blog I like following- she might have a tutorial for something you are looking for :)
This was “sew” helpful! I also love that you didn’t say right and wrong sides because those terms make me a little mad. Like the fabric didn’t do anything wrong, so why are there right and wrong sides? I know it’s not actually meaning it like that, but that’s one of the small weird things that doesn’t sit right with me. :p
Hiii! I’m a little confused on something, does the elastic go throughout the whole skirt or just half? I’m confused because the skirt is ruffled at the waist but I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the elastic band. Thank you!
It's supposed to go through the entire skirt. It probably looks like that because the elastic is smaller than the waist of the skirt so the fabric becomes ruffled all by it self
Doubling the waist is just for the ruching look- Since you cut the elastic 1 inch shorter than your waistline, the fabric will bunch up around the waist when you thread the elastic in- the longer you cut your fabric, the more bunched up (ruche detail) there will be around the waistline. I did double my waist line because I like that amount of ruching- but you can do more or less. If you cut the fabric just a little more than your waist line, it will have a more pencil skirt look. Cutting it double or more will have a fuller look... ha does that make sense? I personally would still double it just because I like that look- but it is totally up to you!
I have never made a circle skirt before, so I'm not exactly sure! Maybe someone else in the comment section who has sewn more can reply! Thank you so much for watching!
That sewing machine would be are $150 but if you look on Amazon there are some sewing machines for around $70-80 that are just as good too! I got mine through amazon and it's a brother sewing machine and they're really beginner friendly
I’m getting a sewing machine for Christmas so I’m watching these videos to get me prepared 😂
Awh yay! That’s so exciting!
I got a sewing machine for Christmas too!
You my kind a Girl.......thanks,
I love simple ........♡
I got mine when I Graduated High School
Haha I’m getting one for Christmas this year!!

9:02 I’ve always ironed the folded over edges before I sew them to make it easier.
Thank you for this video! I just made my first skirt (first piece of clothing period) and it turned out so pretty! I'll definitely be making plenty more for my daughter and myself.

galiagoze agreed
This actually seems easier and better looking than the "simple" circle skirt. Really looking forward to making one!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! I don't have a sewing machine so I'm going to hand sew this. I need skirts that fit. Its hard to find the right size in the stores because I'm between sizes. This video is a lifesaver.
Awh yay, I'm so glad it was helpful!!
This was sooo helpful thank you. Who knew that making a skirt was so simple. I really wanted to see you try it on at the end!
Awh yay I’m glad it was easy to follow!
I've watched numerous videos about skirts but somehow don't quite get it. Yours is perfect for me to follow! Thank you
I sewed the hem after making the casing and sewed the sides together last since it's easier to sew a straight piece of fabric instead of a circular one imho
Hi! I’m just getting into sewing. I like your style of teaching and would love if you made some beginner videos 😩
Ah thank you so much!! What type of things are you interested in sewing??
Lindsay Brooke lots of baby things!! And repurposing old clothes!
If your looking to sew you should check out sewitacademy.com 😊
She used the word length twice, the first length was actually the width and the second length was the length
I like the way you made this video because it’s like I’m sitting on the other side of the table learning how to sew. Thanks! 💖
Very useful video. It’s useful to zigzag all the raw edges before you sew them as this will prevent fraying.
Great tip!! 💛
@@LindsayBrooke yes zig zag or use pinking shears to cut the fabric to stop freying
Ooh... even I can do this 😊 just managed to thread my sewing machine (which was the hardest bit 😩)
Thank you so much, I made my daughter a skirt for the first time today and were both thrilled xx
I got a sewing machine for Christmas and I practiced a lot. I always wantend to make a skirt but I didn’t know how. Thank you so much for learning beginners how to make that kind of things. It really helps xxx
Love your style of teaching. You speak at a good pace and thoroughly explain what you are doing and why. ☺️
I’ve been wanting to make a skirt and this is how I found your channel. I think I’ll try but I first need to get myself a sewing machine 🤷🏻♀️😊
Thank you im going to make some skirts for church and this is very helpful
Thank you! You gave such a simple and clear tutorial. I’m going to make one tomorrow!!
This is the best instructional video I've seen ever. Thank you. New subscriber.
Oh my goodness! So sweet! Thank you so much!
So I am planning to make these for my summer wardrobe this year what type of fabric do you recommend?
Cotton would work it looks like she is using cotton in the video!
So I’m uh...gonna sew by hand, I never had a sewing machine. (,:
Kaitlyn Stùdios same except for those /
Baby ones
Same 😂
s a m e
Same
Thank you, im new to sewing and all the other skirt tutorials were too intimidating! This was great!
I would probably hem it first since I could see how it's aligned more easier
My thought exactly lol I always hem first because it is so much easier
I love how she talks ❤️❤️❤️
You did an amazing job and love the fabric you chose
With material same color.how can you tell which is right side of fabric???
You made that look so easy. Great detailed description!!! I’m new to sewing 🧵 I have some fabric I’ve been waiting to use...but too scared. Now I feel confident I can make it to something beautiful. Thanks 🙏 so much for making this video ❤️❤️❤️
Hello, other Lindsey :)
Omg this is sooo helpful and it was the first thing I sewed
I wanted to see it on you...also, did you tack the elastic down in 4 places to stabilize the gathering evenly ??
Did you cut the width on the grain of the fabric? Really cute. Thank you
I’ve been wondering the same about the grainline.
Thank you Lindsey I was looking for a simple skirt tutorial for my mini mouse costume. You are the best!!!!💕
I loved this video! Thank you❤ I have a question though..why do you have to double the waist size? I was confused on that whether it would be humongous after sewing everything.
You can double the fabric if you’d like to make it bunch of at the waist. I guess you wouldn’t have to if you wanted a more straight skirt.
Your teaching is so simple to understand (as to myself a beginner).... thank you so much; Ma'am
Awh yay! Thank you so much!
I tried it it worked perfectly thanks!
Awh yay! I'm so glad!!
Did you cut the waist along the selvage or perpendicular to the selvage? My fabric is 44 in wide.
Hello, thank you so much for making this tutorial! I plan on following this tutorial to make a skirt, except I have to make it by hand and I had a question about the side seam. I'm confused..should you cut the fabric on grain so that it doesn't lose its draped shape over time?
Thank you for the tutorial. I wish you had modeled the skirt & showed a close up.
Hi Lindsay, great skirt tutorial, very easy to follow, though it took longer than thirty minutes, I'm new to clothes making, I'd also like a simple top pattern. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for this I plan to use it for a cosplay I'm making (cosplay is like dressing up)
Awesome!!
Something that confuses me - why do we take twice the size of our waist? And isnt the circumference still twice the size so it will be way to big?
Aww I was waiting for you to try it on to see whether it looks good when worn but thank you for a simple tutorial 💛
I’m wearing it in the very beginning! And it’s the skirt I have on in the video as well!
hi, looks nice. do you have a similar style but as pants ? thx
Did you use a zigzag or straight stitch ?
This was an awesome tutorial! What would you do to make it a longer skirt (think maxi skirt)?
Hi, when I did this, the skirt looks puffy, should I wash it since I never washed the fabric?
This is my first finished project, mine looked awful but I had fun :)
Can you use this technique for a pleated skirt? I’m an over achieving beginner 😂
Hi! Thank you! For some reason both of the ends of the elastic needed up on the same side is that what happend to yours? I couldn’t really tell? Thanks
Thanks for making this tutorial your instructions are very easy to follow
I'm so glad you like it!
Omg the first skirt I tried making was so crooked.
What stitch do you use, just the basic single stitch setting?
Good video, well explained. I know how much work is involved in doing and redoing takes, editing and splicing. Thank you
Hi, can you make this with a non stretchy fabric or does it have to be stretchy? Thanks, great video! :)
Is it the same idea if only a small section at around the back of the waistband has elastic? I don't want the whole waistband to be elastic, just one section.

Really easy to keep up with, this will be great for cosplay :)
Awh yay! Thanks for you comment! I’m glad it was easy to follow! 💛
im here for cosplay too LMAO im hoping to make a kanna kizuchi cosplay when i get a sewing machine 4 xmas 😳
I’m here for a peko cosplay
What types of stitch should we use
You are looking beautiful in that skarf actually ☺️☺️
I like your dimple also
hii! I love sewing a lot and I found your video very helpful so thank you so much! 💕
I was wondering what model is your sewing mashine is? I was going to but one for myself but don’t know which one to choose :c
this video was a life saver. Thank you soo much.
I am making a skirt for my Halloween costume
Girl you need more views!👍👍👍
You put the elastic on first right and then gather or do you have to gather.
Can this be done without a sewing machine?
can you double up the material? Thanks this really helped mate.
Very understandable and helpful, thanks so much!
Oh good!! I'm so glad, thank you!!
Loved this video. I just wish you would’ve shown us the final product on you instead of the skirt you showed at the beginning.
The skirt at the beginning is the same, just different fabric!
See, my problem is my skirts fit around my waist. But i can’t fit them over my hips. I’m hoping elastic will work!
This was a really easy to understand and helpful tutorial. You didn’t over complicate anything and you went slow enough to make it easy for beginners. Thank you
thank you so much for this!! very very helpful
What inch is the elastic Band you’re using?
Thanks for this tutorial!! But, what I'm looking for is a "simple" dressy top to go with the skirts without darts. I need a high neck, pullover top. There are very few vids for simple tops!! Yay!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow. I didnt know you needed 1in shorter for the elastic. I was cutting too long!
Perfect instruction! Thanks a lot 🤩
Thank you... This was nice. I take it you used straight stitch?
Yep! Just a simple straight stitch!
@@LindsayBrooke thanks 😊
Why do we have to cut out 2x the amount of our waist? Why wouldn't the amount of the waist be big enough since it's the exact measurement?
Hi lovely skirt .Do yo u only measure the waist .should I do my widest part of my body
I wanted the skirt to sit on my waist, so that's where I measured it at! If you want the skirt to be worn lower, like on your hips, measure that part!
How long should the elastic be? (Sorry if you already mentioned this in the video I don't think I got it)
The size of your waist plus 2inch for it to overlap when sewed x
The size of your waist MINUS an inch to give it the ability to stretch
What stitch setting did you put it on? Straight or zig-zag? Sorry I'm a newbie
Just a straight stitch!
Would you double the waist for knit fabric
Doubling the waist is just for the ruching look- Since you cut the elastic 1 inch shorter than your waistline, the fabric will bunch up around the waist when you thread the elastic in- the longer you cut your fabric, the more bunched up (ruche detail) there will be around the waistline. thank you very much
I did it and it took over an hour but it is worth it
Thankyou so much gorgeous this was very helpful
Can you use this casing method for a circle skirt?
I have never made a circle skirt before, so I'm not exactly sure! Maybe someone else in the comment section who has sewn more can reply! Thank you so much for watching!
soo easy! I wanna make it too.. thanks for sharing ~ ☺😊
Yay! It is so easy :)
How much is your sowing machine?im begginer never sowed before so which would you advice me to buy?
That sewing machine would be are $150 but if you look on Amazon there are some sewing machines for around $70-80 that are just as good too! I got mine through amazon and it's a brother sewing machine and they're really beginner friendly
12:00 wut do I do to close this skirt oh no 😭
Great tutorial! Thanks!
How do I thread the elastic in?
I always thought you do an extra inch for the elastic
What do you think about hemming tape?
I think it can be a good temporary solution- but I definitely prefer sewing it down!
This was so helpful thank you!
+MintLaces I'm so glad!!
