    1. It's laughably difficult to get a license for a gun in New York.
    2. You're still more than likely to get arrested for using it in your own defense.

Exactly this, even if they let you have a gun, if you use it in self defense the criminal shooting at you will be let free by the DA, but you a law abiding citizen will be treated like you are the bad guy with he DA trying as hard as they can to imprison you.

The thing about DefundThePolice is that a big thing is that there are so many police that the entire system makes it hard to get things done. Plus, hiring so many police means that there are a lot of incompetent officers.
A big example is the MrSwirl case where all they had to do was reverse the effect in Photoshop, but no one thought to try it for literally 2 years.
So, the thought process is "If they lower the budget, they'll trim the fat and we'll get a more competent police force."
We don't need a literal army of police officers with only two months of training. We need higher-quality police.

I picked up an application in July and the next opening for a pistol safety course where I live was the week before Thanksgiving. Then you have to do your research on what you want to carry, make a decision, order it, then the 10-day Brady Law waiting period. This type of stuff definitely does happen all the time in "non gun free zones." I lived in Atlanta for ten years where carry is easy and legal. There's still a lot of crime there. The problem is that a lot of these thugs don't really care if they die. Plus if you shoot first there's a good chance the judge won't see it as self defense even if they brandished. Instead of losing your wallet and phone, now you're either in jail or dead because their buddy (who was behind you) got you back.
I'm pro 2nd amendment rights, but let's not pretend like it solves social problems like crime. Only common sense laws and policies can help with crime rates.

They get busted being PDFs, Protecting child rings, opening up droog dens, kidnapping people, beating cripples, "Allegedly" golden showering somebody who they handcuffed and peppersprayed (Madison V Weaver Pennsylvania), crashing their patrol car while on the bottle into a fire truck or school teacher. These all happened within the last decade. I live near Butler and these things are in the news every week. In the statistics ~20% of PSP/Penn state troopers get busted for something criminal. Shouldn't they be for the families that paid taxes to build/maintain those parks? The left "cares" so much about the criminals and the degenerates that they are willing to screw everyone else over with crime, inflation/taxes (same thing; different method), and worse quality of life. After everything that has happened the past 5-10 years, it truly amazes me how many people are still blinded by leftwing/socialist utopian ideals.
