The black driver didn’t realize the signals were in a preemption phase the car behind him was honking to get out of the way he had no other choice but to turn right here’s a tip guys just because the light is red and if you’re cleared on the other side of the tracks, doesn’t mean you’re safe at all some people may carefully run the red light to get out of the way
@@SG118Pthey could of backed up imo when the gates started coming down thats what i would of done. Plus the gates are designed to move put of the way if u are trying to get off the tracks. I feel like not enough people know that and get too worried about breaking the gate
@tux_the_astronaut, Yeah, they could have backed up but had they stayed behind the white line, like you’re supposed to do when the light was red then this wouldn’t have happened.
Back in the 60's "Brakeman Bill" the entertainer visited our elementary school and presented a Train Safety class. We all got a X Train Crossing pin which I still have!
Gates are designed to be broken and easily replaced. They are flimsy pieces of plastic that are only there to hold up reflectors and lights, and will bend out of the way on springs by just pushing on it with your hand. If he'd kept backing up, he may've got a scratch on his roof (or not) and probably not even hurt the gate (which again they'll replace for free in ~30 minutes).
Actually back in the day they were originally wood there now I'm more heavier piece of fiberglass but you could still break right through them easily no big deal that's what they're designed to do they do have to break away
I go through there twice a day. The light normally turns green to let the traffic clear out and stop the road going right to left from turning across the tracks. That intersection seems to have more signaling problems than usual with the lights activating for no reason or staying on long after a train has passed. Having said that, the car should not have stopped on the tracks. I always look at the arms and stop so they can come down in front of my car. Some people just can't bear to leave any space between them and the car in front though. Welcome to Atlanta!
I'm not aware of any laws that would warrant a ticket for this kind of thing, though I think they definitely SHOULD be one. I just hope that after this, they needed to change clothes, and learned a valuable lesson
In my community, the stop lights are synchronized with the crossing gates at the busy intersections with parallel railroad tracks. When the train enters the crossing circuits, the stoplights immediately turn red for the parallel traffic and turn green for the crossing traffic so vehicles can clear the RR crossing before the train gets there. Why doesn’t this intersection have a similar setup?
that person needs to go to operation life saver school. They literally don’t know that it is illegal to not listen to the railroad. Crossing rules and beating trains are extremely dangerous
People will always think "it will never happen to me". I hope at least THIS driver will have a little more common sense behind the wheel now. People don't always get a second chance
That was to close!! I'm pretty sure they came from Florida. I happened to save 1 person in Statham, Ga a few years back and I saw the gates coming down and I was honking. He was on the phone and I merely saved his life. From what I saw in this video? Was exactly what I experienced.
It will depend on how long it takes to refill the air tanks of all the cars. I've heard some trains can be 15 minutes or more. Probably also have to communicate with dispatch and a supervisor.
1) The conductor will check the entire train for shifted loads, derailed wheels, etc, walking down all the way to the end and back, sometimes getting a ride on the way back. 2) They'll build air to recharge the brakes, which can as much as 3/4 of an hour (depends on locomotives per train length). Assuming these overlap, it's about an hour. Note that full service (maximum safe braking) doesn't require this.
This type of crossing layout should not exist in 2025! In the present day of automation, there is no excuse for these death traps, especially when the public has been required to wear seat belts for over 35 years now in the name of personal safety! The moment a grade crossing like this is triggered, the red light should be cycled to green to allow those waiting at the light to move out of the way. It is ridiculous to think this near disaster is completely the drivers fault alone, especially when the stop lights were on the other side of the track and a second stop line was just across the grade.
When will people learn. Do not stop on the tracks. At least they made it out of the way.
Sadly, they won't. Too many people have this mentality of "it won't happen to me"😔
They have to have a brain 🧠 first 🙁
That left hand turn was very important to that driver
The markings of where to stop before crossing the tracks is there for a reason.
Somebody needs a 24 hour Operation Lifesaver presentation.
That was a close one! Remember one thing people: Do NOT stop on the tracks!
that is correct that person needs to go to operation lifesaver school
I’ve driven across some grade crossings at traffic lights that are poorly designed but I’m smart enough to know that you don’t stop on the tracks.

@tux_the_astronaut,

@SG118P
The black car is not the issue here, they were clear of the tracks. The red car should have been behind the white line!

This driver obviously didn't get one.

What are people thinking?? The train ALWAYS WINS
Yeah your right and they don’t know it’s illegal to beat a train
Does/Did the driver get ticketed or charged for anything for the train to have to make an emergency stop?
Only for stupidity!
got away
They should
I'm not aware of any laws that would warrant a ticket for this kind of thing, though I think they definitely SHOULD be one. I just hope that after this, they needed to change clothes, and learned a valuable lesson
@ Georgia code title 40 motor vehicles and traffic law 40-6-140
that horn sounds like a Metrolink F125 horn
I think you’re right. I often ride the San Bernardino line into LA just for fun with stops at Olvera Street and Philippe’s.
@ oh that's cool
Those people need to learn their lesson!
Yeah and and they do not know that it’s also illegal to be a train
It seems more and more people turn on their vehicles ignition and turn off their brain.
Did the traffic lights turn green to let vehicles off of the tracks like they were supposed to when the gates lowered?
This is why aliens fly right by Earth.
What a crazy driver

I cant believe the people in our world who dont have common sense...

Isn't this the exact same crossing where a semi was hit one or two years ago?
yes
So how long do they have to sit there for? Until they get clearance to proceed I guess.

Wow!!!!!, Their lucky
If you are not smart you D**N well better be LUCKY!
If you are not smart luck is definitely a necessity!
That was close
Dang
Whew. That was a close call.
I always stop back further than most because in case the trail jumps the tracks I want to be far enough away.
And I always jump in front of people like you..... just kidding
That person in the red car should not be allowed to operate a vehicle.
This is where a person should be heavily fined and their license suspended
Holy cow that’s why I don’t think they have traffic lights near crosses
I say if people do dumb stuff like that they should be fined and put in jail because this is getting ridiculous and it needs to stop now
This is why you never stop on the tracks.
so how long will the train be stopped ?

Oh boy that’s scary but you should always get off the tracks no matter what
Wow
That’s Atlanta metro drivers for you!
And you got some that do it for attention and laughs.
That car gets to live another day. Perhaps
😵💫 Does that persoon get a bill?
Still appalling no matter how many times I watch it.
Close one!
Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.

Luck making up for intelligence yet again.
