    When will people learn. Do not stop on the tracks. At least they made it out of the way.

    I’ve driven across some grade crossings at traffic lights that are poorly designed but I’m smart enough to know that you don’t stop on the tracks.

      The black driver didn’t realize the signals were in a preemption phase the car behind him was honking to get out of the way he had no other choice but to turn right here’s a tip guys just because the light is red and if you’re cleared on the other side of the tracks, doesn’t mean you’re safe at all some people may carefully run the red light to get out of the way

      @@SG118Pthey could of backed up imo when the gates started coming down thats what i would of done. Plus the gates are designed to move put of the way if u are trying to get off the tracks. I feel like not enough people know that and get too worried about breaking the gate

      Yeah, they could have backed up but had they stayed behind the white line, like you’re supposed to do when the light was red then this wouldn’t have happened.

    Gates are designed to be broken and easily replaced. They are flimsy pieces of plastic that are only there to hold up reflectors and lights, and will bend out of the way on springs by just pushing on it with your hand. If he'd kept backing up, he may've got a scratch on his roof (or not) and probably not even hurt the gate (which again they'll replace for free in ~30 minutes).

      Actually back in the day they were originally wood
      there now I'm more heavier piece of fiberglass but you could still break right through them easily no big deal that's what they're designed to do they do have to break away

    I go through there twice a day. The light normally turns green to let the traffic clear out and stop the road going right to left from turning across the tracks. That intersection seems to have more signaling problems than usual with the lights activating for no reason or staying on long after a train has passed. Having said that, the car should not have stopped on the tracks. I always look at the arms and stop so they can come down in front of my car. Some people just can't bear to leave any space between them and the car in front though. Welcome to Atlanta!

    In my community, the stop lights are synchronized with the crossing gates at the busy intersections with parallel railroad tracks. When the train enters the crossing circuits, the stoplights immediately turn red for the parallel traffic and turn green for the crossing traffic so vehicles can clear the RR crossing before the train gets there. Why doesn’t this intersection have a similar setup?

    • @garycampbell3188
      @garycampbell3188 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      It will depend on how long it takes to refill the air tanks of all the cars. I've heard some trains can be 15 minutes or more. Probably also have to communicate with dispatch and a supervisor.

    • @Tolono
      @Tolono 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      1) The conductor will check the entire train for shifted loads, derailed wheels, etc, walking down all the way to the end and back, sometimes getting a ride on the way back.
      2) They'll build air to recharge the brakes, which can as much as 3/4 of an hour (depends on locomotives per train length).
      Assuming these overlap, it's about an hour.
      Note that full service (maximum safe braking) doesn't require this.

    This type of crossing layout should not exist in 2025!
    In the present day of automation, there is no excuse for these death traps, especially when the public has been required to wear seat belts for over 35 years now in the name of personal safety!
    The moment a grade crossing like this is triggered, the red light should be cycled to green to allow those waiting at the light to move out of the way. It is ridiculous to think this near disaster is completely the drivers fault alone, especially when the stop lights were on the other side of the track and a second stop line was just across the grade.
