EHX Attack Decay & Pico Attack Decay Comparison

- Here's my comparison video of the Attack Decay and the Pico Attack Decay. In this video I focused on the difference in sound between the two pedals.
Both pedals are great but have a clear difference in tone. There are some other things to consider when buying an Attack Decay I didn't show. For instance, because the regular Attack Decay is bigger than the Pico version, it has a bunch of extra features. These include presets, a fuzz circuit, an fx loop and expression options. But that the Pico doesn't have all these features is also great! This means the pedal is really small and can fit anywhere on your pedal board.

Thx for helping me decide. Along with the 3 presets and loop function, this sound comparison has convinced me that the extra real estate is worth it for the original.
great video, especially the sound, thx
Thank you!! I’m always aiming to have good sound examples. Video can definitely be improved, trying out new things as I go :)
Good video! Here’s my take on it, having had both (regarding the poly modes, which are the only ones I use):
The original sounds more digital, like it’s downsampled, the pico sounds clearer, like you said.
The pico makes annoying clicking noises if you use set the sensitivity higher than 0. I use it at 0 to get the Kurt sound, it’s click free in that setting and still cuts the transients of the notes (the attack knob loses its function, though). So if you want to avoid the clicks, you can’t really control the attack time.
The pico struggles with chords with clusters, some of them sound very harsh. I can’t recall if the original one struggled or not.
At the end of the day, I like the pico better because of the more natural sound. It’s not as natural sounding as the POG2, but it’s 140€ versus 360€. I wouldn’t use the octaves anyway…
Thanks for this! It’s great to hear other peoples opinion. Personally I went with the original pedal. I really like the darker, downsampled sound and the glitches in poly mode.
Great demo!
Thank you!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Single most important information I needed to make a decision to purchase. Great video made me a new subscriber
Thanks for the awesome compliment and for subscribing!
which one did you choose and why if i may ask? ❤
@@ljsub88 Full disclosure- I have several other “take the attack away” pedals and wanted to know if the extra size would be worth the pedalboard real estate. The sound of the pico won me over and the size is a bonus.
Good comparison, thank you. I prefer the tone of the ‘big-boi’/‘regular’ current pedal. I have a vintage EHX ADSR pedal, so think I will get a big-boi so I can compare them.
Thanks!! Very cool that you have the vintage unit. I would love to see how it compares to the ‘big-boi’ pedal :)
The Mono mode sounds great. The Poly mode sounds like it is coming out of Darth Vaders mouth. Sadly very few demos on TH-cam actually demonstrate the Tape Reverse/Backwards Guitar Sound.
It’s true the pedal is called a ‘tape reverse simulator’ but I’m not sure there are reverse sounds in there. Would love to know how to create these!
Wish I had watched this before buying Pico. I only like the OG attack decay for the glitches. I was confused when I couldn't get any on the pico version. Oh well! kms!
It’s really too bad you can’t get the same glitches on the pico. This is also part of the reason I chose the bigger version.
Just tried it. Pico Poly Mode is clicky and useless. Returning it. :\
Like why even include the function, if it's clearly broken? WTF, EHX?
That is really disappointing! In the end I went with the bigger unit because I like the sound more
@@AmbientExploration I already HAVE the bigger one! I was trying to make more space on my board, but somehow EHX released a pedal that is just inherently flawed? That's a new one for them. :\
