In some instances yes. If you are putting it up next to bushes or a wall. Or you do not want people tripping on it. It is harder to spin out and tie into the post with the fabric up. I prefer to stretch it and tie it up first before fabric. I tie it about knee high , or enough not to get caught in the fabric. Stretch the fabric, then knock it down and hog ring it.
