Jeremy Renner’s acting in this is phenomenal. He does so many subtle little facial expressions to show emotion in different ways. He portrays a hurt father staying strong very well

Indian Reservations are self governing. They have no State Police. Any governing authority is their own unless it involves a Federal crime, then the FBI has jurisdiction. They could compile a missing women's list of they wanted to, but they don't. That's on them. There is a need, but they don't do it. Other agencies could help, but they don't want outside help. You can't really blame them for that. Anytime the government helps, it's a two edge sword. President Donald Reagan famously said "the most feared wordsin the English language are ""I'm from the government and I'm here to help you"". Most Indian Reservations are rife with poverty and crime.

Jermaine Charlo, 23 years old was a Native American mother from my reservation here in Montana coming from the Salish and kootenai tribe. Her disappearance and many more was enough to take a stand with MMIW (missing, murdered, indigenous, woman) a movement that advocates for the end of violence against Native American woman. This film shows the real inside on what has happened to our sisters, mothers, daughters, and even men. For anyone who has had a loved one go missing. Just know that we all stand together. Let’s stand together to bring our loved ones home! Such a great film. Loved the content. ❤

The size of the police unit wasn't because of the size of population only. Each reservation is considered it's own country. It's own people are meant to act as police/judge/etc. Where my sister lives is Cherokee and they have their own police force, own court system, own hospital and lots of community resources, but they have a couple casinos and are well funded. Rural communities and smaller tribes have little funding due to little resources from their own community. And, as their own nation, the US government has to stay out of it but also isn't required to offer any benefits. FBI has some authority but mostly only when invited or if what happened was on federal or public lands, not on the reservation itself.

Holy moly... watching another reaction to this movie, I caught that they were Arapaho (eastern Wyoming) . That caught me off guard because the Wind River Reservation is Shoshone (western Wyoming), and the two tribes were enemies. Turns out the southern Arapaho were sent to Oklahoma and the northern Arapaho were sent to the Shoshone Reservation. It was always bothered me because I thought having a reservation at such a sacred mountain range was a win despite the fact that the Shoshone wintered in Idaho. Summers are fantastic, winters are brutal.

Some of it is brought on by the communities. When there's no jobs, no opportunities, no entertainment, the young people have no purpose in life and often end up either doing drugs or doing violence. The reservation is it's own nation so the feds can't interfere or offer help without permission of the tribe. Lots of tribes are now requiring employment to get tribal benefits so that kids don't just sit at home and spend their benefit check on drugs. They offer tons of scholarships to natives because most don't graduate much less go to college. Americans can't fix it for the natives other than buying from their shops, donating, or gambling in their casinos and such to add more income to the communities. And I say this as a Choctaw.

You asked about why violence and rape. - I was told once it's about power. Not sex, power. - The number of Native American women murdered is about the same as it is for trans women of color: Around a 50% murder rate. - Both of these groups buck the trend about murders being from their same ethnic group, as well: Both groups are more likely to be murdered by someone who is not from their ethnic group (unlike everyone else).
