The problem with this car is the bmw fan boys that are upset that it's no longer "Traditional" this car in person with the right wheels 554m wheels looks brilliant and drives brilliant. People need to move with the times.
From certain angles its alright looking.... sounds just like me trying to defend myself to my mates back in uni after id taken a moose home....

I’m also a bit bitter that bmw have sold out on their core values these days, had 5 BMW’s in a row, by haven’t bothered this time around!

Loved the video Joe, I was looking forward to your opinion as a fellow M2 owner. Laughably, the rear of the M2 seems larger than this rear seat. Definitely looks like more headroom in the M2; interesting vehicle for sure.

Can you add adaptive cruise control on this through connected drive after you've taken delivery of it? I've noticed all the new 1 & 2 series all have the radar square plastic thing on the front but alot don't come with the adaptive cruise control from factory?
Hey Jo - re the busy - I get what you mean...that said I have just swapped out of my 2020 Mini Countryman JCW to an M235i with 19s - strangely to me the Mini was more busy on its 19s and that was supposed to have some tiny offroad capability - the seats in that were firmer - I find these ones more comfortable despite what the Americans seem to say about them - they also say its really firm - I disagree in comfort, its not a waterbed for sure but its quite comfy - I guess I am used to sports suspension! I havent done 100 miles even yet so I cannot comment too much re sport... what I would say is to me the M light should have more beans than the mini JCWs in my view - and less than an M (M2 etc) so with that I think I will add a bit too it. Mine is Black - looks great - I like the hatch - but I do like this with a boot - makes more sense to me personally but I am 5ft 8 - the wife is 5ft 6 and we have a 7 year old so no sloping roof issue for me! :) What I would also say is I think you should do another video on this - you had it for no time at all - you can even use mine (once its bedded in) if you like - I think it deserves a more comprehensive review - you hardly even drove this one ;)
I still love my M240i convertible, i added a remus exhaust, the car looks Japanese i love the b58 engine

In my Audi S5 year 2017 is more space on back seats and is 2 doors only. Me personally i like the looks of this BMW…i like how it looks from the back , Ive seen one fully black and without chrome elements and I like it
4 series vertical grille, 2 series horizontal grill, 7 series vertical grill, z4 horizontal grill - is there any consistency?

Can anyone explain in kindergarten terms what this diff is up at the front on the m1/2 35i? Is it a proper mechanical diff or some kind of ediff?

Whoever designed that Grill was obviously Pissed Up. When he went to get it signed off, he was in Luck, Mr Sign off was pissed as well. just to make sure the Designer gave Mr Sign off, a Man Sized line of Ketamine, just to make sure it went through........
Im convinced who ever is designing the new grills is a plant from audi or lexus and they are trying to ruin BMW internally.
I’ve just returned my M240i after three years. My dealer wanted me to upgrade to a M135i or this M235i. Upgrade, are you having a laugh 😂 design failure, engine failure. Customer lost. Good review though Joe 👍

I dont understand why they leave the door mirrors grey and the trim at the front? Same with the m140is does not suit the car at all with all the colours apart from black.
BMW is starting to go the wrong way..... too many versions of the same car, I’m lost on the modern version of BMW
Compared to the 1 Series I think it looks good. It’d be my choice out the two
I forgot who said it originally, but I dont understand the '4 door version of a 2 door version of a 4 door car', eg take a 3 series (4 doors), make a 2 door version (4 series) then add 2 doors back...
BMW really are cashing in and M cars too and they dont feel rare/special anymore. Quality cars yes, but just not quite as limited production as I'd like on that front.

Why does this particular unit have the old-style memory seats; whereas, every other video shows them mounted on the door? How odd!
II'm not sure about the English word, but it has too much sheet metal above the rear wheel. It makes the car looks strange/heavy with wrong proportions.
The 235i xdrive is best in black 😉
I saw one of these in my local BMW dealership last weekend. It's actually not bad looking in the metal, in my opinion. I was there to order an M135i. Looking forward to it arriving.
The older M235i looks much better and has a nicer engine, considering to buy the old one.

Looks like a Toyota Corolla. Torque steer, reverse tardis seating. Think what else you could buy for the money.

Fwd based junk. I don't want a Mini JCW as a BMW. 4 cylinder, automatic only is disappointing and the styling is dreadful. Then there is the fact that this "BMW" has torque steer which is unacceptable. Good for a Kia something. Bring back the rwd. I will only consider a BMW if it's rwd
Totally agree - I am a BMW driver but an ugly mini in disguise isnt for me. I used to own a BMW M135i back in 2013 but I wouldnt even conciser a 1 series now!
It's a bit like the GT models from the back...which is not a good thing :(

Yeah there will be a coupe - the coupe will be on the RWD platform unlike the rest of the 2 series range.
Angle of the car at 3.40 is reminiscent of a Volvo or even a Mazda 6.
Always a good video from you Joe but BMW's current exterior design language is a disater visually. They are going in a really awkward direction, difficult proportions and grim details. I like the wheels though.

Sorry, BMW, as I’ve been a fan for many years and owned more than a few, but the 1 and this 2 GC are for badge snobs, not enthusiasts. I haven’t seen that many new 1 series out on the road and they’ve been on sale 6 months now. There’s tons of M135i models pre-registered and ex-demos for sale 2nd hand, sorry, ‘pre-owned’ on BMW’s used website (at least here in the UK). Pre-reg ones are typically £30-32k rather than £40k or so new. Says it all, really. Hoping the new 4 series coupe and 2 series coupe due this year/next year re-discover some of the BMW magic that seems sadly lacking in recent releases. The new i4 looks potentially interesting too, so fingers crossed.
The back seating looks like it has just enough room, but unfortunately you can’t drive the road with the back doors open! 😂 What were they thinking. It’s almost like a longer Audi TT, pointless back seats....
They should have done a “ touring “ one instead of this Grancoupe.

The rear ergonomics are shocking. That rear end is a disaster. You never had to find a ‘good’ angle with something like an E46, or make apologies or excuses for it. The design of it was border line, restrained, handsome, perfection. Germanic (dare I say). Now BMW have lost that. Now they look like they could have come from Korea (not a slight against Korea) - they just no longer have that restrained Germanic brilliance (aesthetically) that made them in to the brand we all grew up with. Still a ‘good’ car. Perhaps the BMW we need, not quite the BMW we want...

I couldn’t be friends with anyone considering this particular model. I’d find it hard to trust someone considering the new M135i, but I get it... this however.... don’t waste your money.
Great review of an awful car, the only way BMW has improved is the interior, but the styling is bizarre?
Not really for me TBH. I'll stick with my F85 X5M. I will say however, for a young woman who doesn't need a large vehicle, I can see why they would like a smaller, more compact 4 door BMW.

Went to my local dealer to see one of these last weekend. very disappointing in the metal. Very underwhelming. Came away with an 8 series. which was near enough.
I just can't get used to the rear end. And why would you buy a car that you have to get used to it instead of what you like. BMW losing their touch.. FYI, this car is not cheap in price either.

Awful, the 1 series is terrible and this isn’t much better. Doesn’t even compare to the CLA and I’m a BMW fan.
