Are Firework Assortments Worth the Money?

  • I have been asked this question many times and am finally taking the time to evaluate it. In this video I found all the products sold in "The Max" firework assortment and compare the cost individually and in the assortment.
    Keep in mind this video is only looking at this one kit and the individual prices at Red Apple Fireworks in Pahrump Nevada. The results may be different at your local store.

    this was surprising tbh, i guess now we know why some retail places charge as much as they do for some of these kits, especially when its a brothers kit like this and some really nice stuff in it.Honestly this shows why if you're thinking about one of those larger kits be it this one or like the godfather that blackcat has. its always wise to price out everything if possible because if its a lot of crap in the kit it won't be worth it or if its like this one you end up with a deal.

    Great video, ive been watching for a very long time. Thanks for making this! Helpful. I don't know if I'm the only one, but I will guestimate the prices of what the fireworks in assortments are worth. The fireworks in the assortments aren't usually sold in that tent / stand. If I want the product in that and its a fair / cheaper deal than I will buy. Also factor in tho that you get stuff thrown in for free from buying the stuff individually. When they see you buying all that product its seems alot more. PLUS its most of the time, cheaper to buy indivisually were im at. That assortment would probably be $600. But it would come with like 2 noabs and a 24 shell kit.

    Nice informative video!! With the bigger party/finale assortments, you will definitely save some money and luckily the average consumer doesn't have to work too hard to figure it out (as long as most of the items are sold individually at the same store that sells the assortments). Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the smaller assortments, which sell a lot more than the larger assortments. When you calculate the retail prices of the items in the smaller assortments, the total will usually end up somewhere in between $5 and $10 over the actual total cost of the items, so you're not actually getting ripped off too bad in some cases, but it adds up when you consider how many of these smaller assortments get sold. It's definitely harder to calculate retail prices in the smaller assortments (because of the fact that there are so many individual pieces to account for) and that's where the stores try to make their money.
    I calculated the cost of a bigger ($120) assortment that I had last year and the assortment itself saves you about $10-$15, so paying for a bigger assortment makes more sense (even though it will cost you more), but that depends on how big your budget is.

    in my opinion, if you can actually find assortments with individually sold products (like the one shown in the video) by all means do the research because it can save you a lot of money. the assortments to watch out for are the rewraps of the products you dont see that is not sold individually. here in california, where our main supplier is TNT and a little bit of Phantom, the assortments contains most items that are not sold individually. because of course, they are all fountains. lol.

    GREAT VIDEO! There are some great assortments out there. Personally, I have always had good luck with assortments. What I usually do is get an assortment and then build on it with some larger items. I have found that if you can use coupons with assortments, that can also save you money... My only issue is that sometimes certain assortments contain some nice items, and some items that I would not buy individually. For me it depends on the company and I always like to be able to see exactly what is in the box.

    Huge difference when you buy the kit. seems the way to go.

  • @evolution2001
    @evolution2001 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good job on doing the comparison. I've always wondered that myself. Kits should typically be less since they are effectively creating a mixed case of product. So the pricing should be somewhere near what they charge for cases. (Although vendors typically charge a little more for mixed cases.)
    To determine this, I expanded your effort! Rewatching the video, I noted the individual price and case price where available. I took the case price, divided by the qty in the case, and that gives your per-item price at case pricing. I then figured out the discount for buying a case of each product. Once I had all those numbers, I took the average of all the case qty discounts. Not including the shit kit (*giggles*), the average discount per item when buying a case was 53%. (The case discount on the shells was only 21%, which would bring the overall "case qty" discount down to 49%.)
    For the kit priced at $400, and the per piece price totaling $555, that's an "OK" discount of 28%.
    If we look at their demo night sale price @ $319, that's a more reasonable discount of 43%, which is much closer to the "case price" discount.
    Finally, let's apply the the average 49% and 53% case discount and see what we get. $271.95 and $260.85, respectively.
    So is it a better buy to purchase a kit? From a purely financial view, it is a resounding "Yes".
    But when pricing is not taken into consideration, I say this... If you're not a pyro and you don't really know much about what you definitely like effect-wise, or don't know what particular products you like, or you are buying for a target group (such as buying a kit with a bunch of little stuff to hand out to the kids), or you are just looking to have stuff make noise and color, then "Yes, just go buy a big kit." Check out "Beyond Compare" from JakesFireworks. The thing is nearly 6ft tall!
    If random products are not your style, then you probably have a greater interest in pyro and should look to join a pyro club.
    Happy firing and BE SAFE!

    I totally got ripped off buying this assortment at Phantom Fireworks recently. What is in the one they are selling is different than what is pictured here. It has some of the same cakes, but it doesn't have for instance Midnight, or the Quest shells. Also, the outer shipping cover says 699 shots, but unless I am missing something, I added together all of the fireworks, and they only add to 669 shots. I contacted Phantom's help desk about this, but I have yet to receive a reply back since sending it yesterday. I am really FUMED about this.

    • @FiBTL18
      @FiBTL18 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The items are the same they just rewrap some of them with different packaging but they are still the same product. I agree phantom is really over priced. The only time to shop there and that's if you have no other options is when they do buy one get 2. Then and only then are their prices closer, still higher but closer to other more reasonable stores regular prices. But no matter what sale you're still going to be paying more at phantom. Glad I found red apple and know that they ship anywhere in the us. So I will be ordering my fireworks online and have them shipped to my house from now on. Shipping is expensive 99 to 199 flat rate so you pay the same if your order is small or large. but if you're getting a few grand of pyro then it's still hundreds less then the upcharge and taxes that I have to pay here in pa at phantom. 18% state tax that I don't have to pay when ordering from red apple and also hundreds less on actual product that I save from the cheaper prices red apple offers especially on cases. If I spend 1k at phantom I have to pay $180 in tax. If I spend 2k I pay 360 in tax. And even with the buy one get 2 I still pay around 33 for a 500g cake. Red apple I can get a few cases and the avg price is around 18.50 per 500g cake. 5in canister shells 33 to 52 per unit red apple. 66 with phantoms buy 1 get 2. And I'm talking case prices but still. You can see If your buying a nice amount you can get double your amount for the same money spent even paying for shipping then you can at phantoms buy1get2 just paying their base prices. You spend hundreds more in markup there. Which will easily cover the shipping. And for me I don't have to pay the tax ontop the markup so I end up saving big. Basically I can get 60 500 gram cakes from red apple and have them shipped to my door for the same price I'd pay for 30 500g cakes at phantom stores during their buy one get 2 sales.

And plus also they have a buy one get one free deal on anything in the store so I got another Pyros Playhouse for free. It comes with over 2,000 items to light with novelties and even 500 gram cakes. of course depends on what is actually in there but in my experience 90% of assortments are a waste of money containing mostly product that otherwise would never sell on their own.
    the effects of most items usually are very weak and small, fountains last a good 2 seconds if they light at all, you know the deal... your typical ripoff. especially the case with most factory assembled assortments. store assembled ones however have a lot better chance to contain actual good product.

      everything in this kit is 200-500 gram repeaters.... Brothers makes quality stuff too.... a lot of fireworks companies just rewrap brothers items and sell them as their own

    Red Apple/MotorCity Fireworks prices have skyrocketed. Most of those cakes use to sell for $20. I bought Stop-N_Go three years ago for $7. Hit Tthe Road Jack for $15. They use to carry Big Pro shells and got them for $32 a box. I still go to MotorCity but buy a lot less since they came out with their own products and jacked up the prices. Still good place to shop but getting expensive.

    $464 whole sale
    $550 retail

    • @toriless
      @toriless 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, both are 2017 products. They are different. Container Load is similar but contains twice as many 200G cakes but less 350G cakes. I can not use fan cake like Midnight, too many trees near by. I like to pick and choose a lot but often the prepacked is better since you only need to buy 1 of everything not 4 to 36 or whatever. Brothers does have a cake only package called The Deadly Dozen (BP-A085) which is a good choice depending on its cost since all those cake a pretty good but I'm not sure if any wholesaler carries it yet.

    Cool Video , this is something iv always wanted to do but I have crappy stores near me. I wish I could find this asst in my neck of the woods. that $319 sale price is legit, stores near me this would be a $500-$550 sticker price all day long, all the stores around me in SE WI are just worried about maximum profit and nothing else, also they are the only 2 stores located in like a 40 mile radius and no new stores can get licensing so they have a monopoly going on, sucks .
