I carried a GPMG through 2 tours in both Sabah & later in Sarawak Borneo back in 1964/5/6 and again in 1967 for the final withdrawal in Aden…great memories from so long ago…Jock Donaldson Recce troop 42 Commando..now very happily retired in Torrevieja…

If I’m not mistaken, Cpl Clarke on the rifle range for a few seconds.
He was my section corporal, whilst I was going through training with 100 troop.
Really good instructor and a decent guy.👍👍👍

Pringle had his legs blown off by IRA car bomb. I served in the Corps in the 60's , 65 Commando Course. Many thanks for this

USMC here, we trained with the 42 Commando in Norway in 1982 (Operation Alloy Express) and when the exercise was over we flew choppers back to our ship (USS Guadalcanal LPH 7), then headed back to their base at Portsmouth or Plymouth (can't recall which city. We hit both) more training, then a field day where we played Rugby against a beast of a team and had our asses handed to us, lol. Afterwards that night they threw a big party with great food and drink then back to their NCO club for more drinks/beers. & singing songs. One helluva tough unit and a group of great guys. ~Shep, Golf Co 2/2 USMC.

Have never seen this at all. My troop is seen going through Peters Pool although I am not one of them. I was in training in 1978/79. Great picture of the Adjutant on horseback on the pass out parade. Horseback no longer

There was a brilliant recruiting film made a few years earlier - maybe 1975? It would be great if you could find that one!

Why are senior officers incapable of moulding a beret? It's not difficult.

It’s where they keep their emergency rations… normally a Cornish pasty. However, calling them forty-two and forty-five commando… blue on blue incoming!!!!

You as us are trained to a high standard and I joined in 84 we knew our enemy and we were trained accordingly ( and trained to kill from a distance preferably but also trained for CQB But nonetheless taught to extinguish a life from 16 years onwards I will never forget what I learned and am always prepared to use the skills I learned to protect myself and family Let’s be nice to each other and avoid the worst that certain situations will bring out in lots of us ex soldiers you can’t untrain what was drummed in

Take no notice, he's a septic plastic jock thinking its clever because he learns his history from tik tok, when in reality he just comes across as a complete and utter clueless idiot, real scots don't want anything to do with fools like him, and we dont claim them as one of our own either... Just like real taffs and paddys dont either, in fact they beginning to hate them more for stirring the sh!t and trying to keep the dissent and division going...
