  • The future looks bright for firefighters in Northamptonshire as they can now be seen out and about in new, gold-coloured fire clothing - the first major change in kit the service has seen in 15 years.
Firefighters will be saying goodbye to their old, dark blue kits, which first came into service in 2004, and will now don lightweight gold PPE (personal protective equipment).
The new kit is a lighter, modern design aimed at protecting firefighters from heat penetration, as well as maximising their freedom of movement when carrying out rescue duties.
The kit is being updated because of the age of the current blue PPE, so the decision was made to take on new clothing that utilises modern fabric technology and design.

When it comes to a toss up between tradition and safety, Safety wins Every time. The new class B fire helmets offer much better cranial protection and neck protection and have pull down face shields which can be clear, mirrored or gold coated for extended face protection and also retractable safety glasses, and neck curtains for added protection they're much more practical for use in confined spaces and road traffic collisions and are used all across the EU, and have been for several years now.

@@Zackislivid it will spear through there clothing as well they aren't fully protected from explosives no matter how much gear you have on it still can rip your legs off and those helmets look like you can't breath in them and much like a waste of money for the shield if you still have a airpack on going into a fire

@@Aviationgeek21 yes but thats not very likely, and its safer because it has 2 LED lights on the side, a mic, it fits in with breathing aparatus, it also protects better from falling bricks, because it has thermoplastic and steel in the helmats included with soft memory foam.
