Thank you for the explanation! My VanMoof S2 suddenly stopped assisting with the front motor. No error is displayed, and the lights and display are working normally. Do you have any idea what the issue could be?
Hiya my name is actually *Darsh* but it sounds like josh in the videos 😁 I am indeed, shoot me a message, all details are ok the website www.ebikerepairs.co.uk
Hi, thanks for the vid. Good te see what's inside... and conclude I am not up to doing what you do. However, I have created a problem with the smart cartridge. When the bike fell, the charger connector broke off. And while I was waiting for a new connector to arrive, I charged the battery with the remainder of the charger connector and a loose wire. By doing so, I accidentally caused a small shortcircuit and a spark on the charging connector on the bike side. Stupid, I know. From that moment on, the controller keeps showing the 'charging battery animation' and the bike doesn't drive anymore. Apparently, the smart cartridge thinks that the charger is always connected, even when I disconnect it. Charging works fine though. Do you have any idea where the failure could occur on the board? Could it be a fuse (I hope)? Or any tips how to diagnose?
@@EbikeRepairs Yes, I'll buy some anti-theft torq to open it up and see if I can find anything burnt. Still hope that there's a fuse somewhere that can be replaced. Or a burnt cable in the cable tree that I can replace.
Hey 😎, Super informative video🤗! Can you make a same one of a S5 ! I”am curious with”s small battery is in side of that ! And if the cartridge is build differently! My S5 cartridge battery don”t hold it”s charge also i think 🤔🕵️♂️! Thanks in advance Gr
Honestly it's really good. You can't weld too quickly, as the caps can be used faster than they drain, but good for about 100-200 welds before you have to leave it 10 mins to recharge.
Hi great video, I have the problem my S3 Batterie was empty end dead got a new one bike is working but no connection to the app. In bluethoos I can see the bike but not in the app. Maybe the Batterie in the cartridge is empty and the app cannot found the bike?
Good question! Just because my bench top power supply has big crocodile clips on the end and I didn't want to short them on anything, and it's hard to grip teeny tiny wires... no other reason! 👍
Excuse me, but there are some questionable advices in the video. The first is to separate the two halfs of the cartrige. You're destroying the seals between them. The 'funny' dangling rear light is also not adviced. That last compartment has no seal and dosn't need one. But water might spill through the seat tube. The next section with the battery is sealed and has to have functioning rubber seals where the cables pass from compartment to compartment. That whole cartridge has to be handled with care! Don't loosen that rubber seals or renew them. So just remove all the small screws on the side and the bigger one in the middle. Then take of both 'halfs' of the lid, but leave the halfs together. Don't remove the middle screw on the underside that holds the two parts. I'd recommend to charge the battery in-circuit and reset the cartrige once there is some power in that battery. Unfortunately vanMoof did a bad job on 'brown-out' and 'brown-in' handling. That means, when the power for the CPU (this cartridge is the main control for all!) comes back slowly, the CPU is not resetting properly and remains in an unknown state. In my case the electronics consumed a constant current of 50-60mA, which does whatever to the rest of the components. If the cartridge is properly resetted (the usual knob on the underside), the consumption drops to 1-2mA and the CPU sleeps. BTW, the 'ship' on the dot matrix display indicates ... guess what ... the 'shipping state' of the cartridge. I'm not 100% sure, but it's probably triggered when the cartridge guard is not installed. Probably the cartridge also knows it's not installed in the bike at all.
Why not just replace the battery surely if it’s for a customer that would have been the logical solution? Can’t see those dead cells lasting long by just jump starting the pack again.
Great Video…. Van Moof should be giving you royalties for fixing their issues. I’ll try your fix on my bike now, 🤞🏼
I wish! Thanks and good luck!
Very clear thank you. I've just been quoted a lot to replace battery & smart cartridge. I'll now have a look first.
My pleasure!
Thank you for the explanation!

Sorry I'm not sure with an S2...
Hey Josh, are you currently accepting batteries for assessment and potential repairs?

What is the replacement battery that can be used for the smart cartridge?
It's in the description, now! Sorry I forgot to put it in there on uploading 😅
Thank you very much! I opened the cartridge and the battery has 2.5v. Do you think matrix display should turn on with 2.5v of voltage?
Perhaps over 3v needed - charge it up and check 👍 I didn't check what voltage it turned on at - sorry.

I'm really not sure, it's quite possible that it's blown a small IC.
New/ used smart cartridge might be the only way to go!

I'd love to but I don't have an S5 here :( bring me yours and I'll do it! Thanks 👍👍
how do you rate the docreate spot welder? i was looking at one on ali.

Yes give it a try and see
FYI the ship 🚢 is for shipping mode .
I have since worked that one out lol but thankyou! :)
Just wondering why you would use a seperate charge board for the battery instead of a bench power supply. I have saved a lot of batteries with one ;)
Good question! Just because my bench top power supply has big crocodile clips on the end and I didn't want to short them on anything, and it's hard to grip teeny tiny wires... no other reason! 👍
@@EbikeRepairs That makes sense, I personaly use needles for connectors like this. Fyi they can take a boatload of current running tru them ;)
Ooh that's a neat idea! I'll try that, thankyou
Could you please tell me what are the colors of the speed control wires?
I want to connect an external throttle
I don't think they exist in this controller, sorry

Where can I order the battery?
sorry, vanmoof have gone out of business currently so i dont think its possible. maybe in the future!
Hello, I get error code 29, when I connect the charger it shows the battery is charging but does not charge, what could be the problem? Thx ☺️
Sorry I don't know the vanmoof error codes :(

I couldn't get one - spoke to the customer and he was happy to try it out and see. 👍 But yes I agree that's the ideal solution!
@@EbikeRepairs if I was just a 3.7v lipo eBay is full of them 👍
I really struggled to find the right size - apparently a sennheiser headphone battery with NTC is a direct fit, though...
Need link for the battery please, my S3 is also dead since yesterday😢
