I think this is a very important point you mentioned there: Don't be afraid of mistakes. I recently started to play football again and have to relearn a lot. To accept or realize, that you aren't as good as you thought you are, is really hard, but only then, you can start to get better. It's difficult to overcome the fear of embarrass oneself, but once you mastered a new skill, you will be so proud. Accept failure once in a while, it's part of the process. Focus on improving. One day you will look back and laugh about your fears. Great Video!
I have done the same, playing again after many years and having two kids is tough. I am overweight, and much slower than I remember being in the past. My brain says one thing, my body doesn't quite follow!! I am out of breath and can't do a number of long runs quickly and out pace my opponent anymore, which has made me lose confidence-I pass too quickly and don't run with the ball enough and lose the ball by quickly trying to pass it off vs. taking the time to view the pitch and make an assessment while I am with the ball. I think after not having played for a while, it is absolutely necessary to start doing simple drills and get that muscle memory back and also work on solidifying the joints. I was in my mid to late 30's last time I played, I am now 49 and wow what a difference those years make to the body. I recover slower and hurt worse. All of this lead me to feel less confident, the reality is I am not a worse player, I just haven't kept up my practice and have slowed down. Just need to rebuild that muscle memory and do drills to improve, and it makes a lot of difference, both in your game and in your mental attitude.

Lacking the confidence has cost me so many opportunities, I’m 52, female and have been afraid of sports my whole life….(I’m the one who always gets hit in the nose with the ball…) How would you recommend I start? I like soccer….it’s fun and brings purpose to fitness…. Thank you so much for your videos ❤
If you haven't joined a club I would do so. Then you can train and play, then expand and find other places that train might be futsal or lads kicking a ball around a dusty street. Find the football and fill your calendar with it. I have a small garden and put astro turf down you can still do close control and lots of other small technical skills. Good luck kid. 👍
