    How has this held up?

It's held up great after 1 year of full time RV living! A few small scratches here and there, but that can be expected since it's wood and not granite.

Also how did you cut the under mount sink hole out? Did you use a router? Did you router the edges as well?

We used a jig saw to cut the sink out. And sanded the edges. No router.

@@RyanMegan Thanks for the info! My wife and I are redoing our kitchen and literally have the same countertops. Can’t decide on a finish but this helps. Thanks again!

Awesome video! Highly informative and detailed. How many coats do you recommend before installing and how long did you wait in between coats to dry? Also what do you recommend for aftercare maintenance?

I believe we did about 4-5 coats, but it depends on how your butchblock soaks in the oil. You can do as many coats as you see fit, because each one helps water proof the surface. We usually waited anywhere from 5 to 12 hours between coats. Early on it will soak in quick and dry. The finishing coats you might want to wait longer to cure. Maintenance also depends on what type of oil you use. The oil we use had a nice finish included and requires less maintenance but some require applying a bit of oil every 6 to 12 months.

This is THE comment we've been waiting for since posting this on TH-cam! 😂 ... honestly, when we were looking into how to finish butcher block, we were hearing contradictory information and overall, we were just really confused!! I'm so glad this helped you, because that was our goal!

This was really helpful. Very detailed and straight to the point.
How well have they held up? We are considering adding butcher block countertops in our kitchen. Do you think adding a polycrylic after the Watco would also be helpful in waterproofing it? I've experienced polyurethane yellowing over time and I don't want that to happen.

Thanks for the encouraging words! We're excited that you benefited from our video!
As for our countertops, they've held up great. No water damage to them and only minor scratches. Which can be expected because the Watco is not a super hard finish like you would get from an epoxy. What is nice about the watco is that we can always re-sand and watco the countertops again in a couple years if we needed to. The polycrylic would definitely not be a bad idea just for added water sealing! Overall, we've been very happy with the butcherblock!
