Michael and Mia did a great job! Mia is the only Jane portrayal that captures the youth and energy of an 18 year old, while still maintaining an austere appearance.
He is the best Mr Rochester. She is the best Jane. I think older movies didn't nail the hot factor. The 2006 Mr Rochester came close. But Mr. Rochester is sexy and he pulled that off and then some.
On the contrary, Mr. Rochester is supposed to be very plain, completely unattractive, even ugly, same with Jane. That's what makes their relationship beautiful in that physical attractiveness is not what bonds them.
I do think the 1997 version with Samantha Morton did capture the passion. I love Jane Eyre, and have seen many adaptations.. I think all have their merits
it mostly kills me that he is actually a man who had read JANE EYRE, which is like my favourite book with two of my favourite characters.. and he knows Mr Darcy also (i thought his argument over the fight was so spot on. Rochester will win for sure)

I'm so glad he mentioned Jamie Bell. It was the perfect choice for St. John. When I first came across the cast I was a little reluctant. I didn't know Fassbender, his line of work is absolutely alien to me, and Mr. Rochester is such a powerful character I was having second thoughts. As for Mia, I hadn't quite grasp her import after Alice (2010) and so wasn't immediately convinced. But Jamie--well, when I saw his name, it put the case to rest. He was the marble-like St. John in my mind already. Of course both Fassbender and Mia delivered exquisite performances as well. If the film was to fail on everything else, at least the cast was spot on.
