Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender were brilliant in this movie. This is not my favourite adaptation of the book but these two are my favourite Jane and Rochester.

she's the perfect Jane Eyre and yes i know that the age difference between her and Michael are huge but in the book Mr. Rochester was also older than Jane.
katinas1100 In Jane Eyre, the book, Jane is 19 and Rochester is around 35. The story reflects a gap in their age and social status, that's a big element of what's going on - this is the film adaptation that I think most closely reflects the original ages of the characters. Most actresses who've played Jane were considerably older than Mia.
You nailed it - Mia is an artist with what she does . . . it's not about drawing attention to herself and making faces to impress the audience, it's about creating an individual character of depth. Mia disappears and the character emerges. She is actually quite a chameleon.
Mia is by far, my favorite young actor. She is elegant, poised and hands down, captivating. She is a true artist and one day, I'll see her give an Oscar speech, I'm sure of it.
I read Jane Eyre the first time when I was a sophomore in high school. I had seen the book sitting on the shelf in my school and had always felt drawn to it, so I finally checked it out and read it. I felt such a profound connection to Jane as a Christian girl who used her faith as her guiding moral compass and had a profound sense of character. I knew the book was somehow going to help me in my life, and it’s very true. I married young and to a man 12 years older than me, with a past much more.. um.. colorful than my own. He had been in a 6 year relationship and had slept around extensively with whoever would sleep him and even admitted to me he paid for sex. We are from polar opposite worlds. Well because of this, I struggled for some time with feelings of retroactive jealousy over his past, and even though he plead with me night and day that I was his true first love and his redeeming love, I still struggled with it. That is when I reread Jane Eyre and saw SO MANY similarities between Jane and Edward and my husband and I. The age gap, the worldly life Mr Rochester lived before Jane, being married to Bertha, but never truly loving her and wanting to get away from her the way my husband didn’t really love the woman he lived with and was always looking for other things. And how Mr Rochester truly loved Jane and she truly loved him despite their vast differences in life choices. I realized Jane Eyre is the closest representation of our love story. No, I didn’t get necessarily get a “Prince Charming”, I got a Mr Rochester and I truly adore that ♥️
I'm in my sophomore year of high school and this book completely fascinated me. Age difference marriages are always badly received in society, but once I realize that I am in love in my life, nothing will definitely stop me.
SPIDER LILIEZ I love her accent. I once worked with a guy who had a mix of English/American, so every 3rd word sounded British. I always envied his accent
It actually surprised me how good she was in Jane Eyre. I completely gave up on her after Alice in Wonderland and The Kids Are All Right, I was decided to avoid films with her in main roles. But the power of Fassbender called me to this movie and aside from being too pretty to be Jane Eyre, she was really great.
I am searching for the adaptation that jane was drawing her friend helin then the teacher cut their hair I can't find it please who knows what adaptation is it?????
Great movie, but I had to roll my eyes a little at the 2 great looking leads supposedly playing ugly and plain people, as they are portrayed in the book. Filmmakers just can't pass up that eye candy buck lol.
Mia, you should watch some versions, especially one with Charlotte Gainsbourg as Jane. Just to see what u needed to do to be better than her in your performance. It's not enough just to watch some ones pretty face on screen. Your Jane was like pretty vase with no flowers in it....Also like watching Alice in other movie...where was your transformation?
Telling Mia Wasikowska to watch and learn acting from Charlotte Gainsbourg is like telling Jeff Beck to learn how to play the guitar by watching Jimmy Fallon.
Hm, interesting. I didn’t like that version at all. Also in that movie many parts from the book were cut, even more than in this one. IMHO Mia did a great job here, I found her extremely convincing and strong.

Beautiful movie great acting. Love these two in this movie.
It is mine

it's only a 12 year gap, that's really not that big. brad pitt's 12 years older than Angelina jolie, for example
SupernaturalLover67 12 years is really big in my oppinion.

katinas1100 that's fine. my dad is 12 years older than my mom and they've been married for 20 years, so age is just a number I guess.
not lately, and there were so many, and so good...

Best version ever.

she has a very pleasant voice, it's really nice listening to her

I love this film. Mia & Fassbender give outstanding performances! It's deeply romantic.
I have a crush on a girl who looks like Mia Wasikowska. Needless to say I want to be her Rochester.
Aw, I hope it works out :)
you would have to be several years older than her.
and rich...Rochester ain't Rochester if he ain't rich.
How did it worked? It's been 4 years but it sounds like a cool story
Hey did it work out ?
13 years isn't THAT much. I have quite a few friends whos parents have an age gap like this
I loved her acting as Jane Eyre. She did such a great job
She seems so cool :) I think she was an amazing choice for Jane Eyre.
Her accent, too, is so interesting. I had no idea she was Australian.
she structures her sentences in such a good way.
Wow i didn't know she was Australian 🇦🇺 her British accent is amazing
Wow she's so naturally beautiful and I could listen to her all day ,an amazing woman!
Her accent is hard to pin.
It's a mix of her being Australian and that American accent.
+SPIDER LILIEZ Don't forget it may also be her polish background too
SPIDER LILIEZ I love her accent. I once worked with a guy who had a mix of English/American, so every 3rd word sounded British. I always envied his accent

All what she did with this role is amazing! She Is Jane there.
Seriously, my 13 year old niece looks exactly like her. It's crazy. I look at Mia and see my niece all grown up.
I loved her in this movie! Simply amazing
Anyone who calls Mia's acting "wooden" probably doesn't have much of a clue about acting to begin with.
michael fassbender reminds me of a young christopher plummer the actor .............this version the best
Gosh she is so lovely.
One of the greatest Scenes of,all time
it's close to the age difference mentioned in the book
I feel like the actors were actually living their parts.
Yes
yeah she had a great QUITNESSS about her love her style....
I know this isn't a big deal, but I just can't stand hearing saliva being smacked around in someones mouth so loudly..
She looks like young Jennifer Jason Lee. Same beauty and posing.
I am searching for the adaptation that jane was drawing her friend helin then the teacher cut their hair I can't find it please who knows what adaptation is it?????

I want her to be with Michael fassbender not Robert pattinson and I want them to be in another film because their meant for each other.
What do you mean with Pattinson? Anyway it's unlikely to happen since Mia has quite the Hollywood
Her accent has been very Americanised. It's quite a nice mix
oh yes please!
Pft, I would "mess around" with Michael Fassbender too. :p
@AugustineEmmeline Agree....
i love her! i think she's a promising actress.
She sounds Australian-American, really.
There is no other Alice.
2006 was better match couple Dalton played good Mr.Rochester.
it's there most of the time but I think she's spent a bit of time in america.
Where is her Australian accent?
They had a history?
:D love thissssssss!!!!!!!
Great movie, but I had to roll my eyes a little at the 2 great looking leads supposedly playing ugly and plain people, as they are portrayed in the book. Filmmakers just can't pass up that eye candy buck lol.
There's no fantasy or sense of escape in a movie that looks like the ordinary audience.
I think Jane would be more passionate than portrayed in this movie.
Lucky bitch haha. She looks so cute here.
I was not very impressed with her performance.

I hate this book so much
