Btw, you could save a lot of time on the beginning of the video by porting two of the intended models in, then selecting one of them in the outliner, and in the attribute editor, go down to drawing overrides, enable overrides, and Display type 'reference' (in the dropdown menu). That way the reference model cannot be selected in the viewport, and you can use it for reference the entire time while working on the clothing, as well as keeping the both objects perfectly centered the entire time. Also, when selecting the portion that you want for the clothing, go to Select 'Inverse', and hit the delete key, then you will only have what you want left. You can also select the reference model in the outliner and click Display 'hide' - 'hide selected', if you need it outta your way in order to view your work.
Finally thank you Mike My process for clothing is Create it in MArvelous Designer then export it to Zbrush Finish it up in Zbrush, create seams, weld it together Then take it into maya and then substance painter
you are the best teacher ever.. thank u so very much sir. You not only teach how to do it u teach how to apply it depending on what we are working on. forever greatfull sir
@@MHTutorials3D Np. Admittedly I skipped through a lot of the parts in which you were customizing the piece, but in around 2-3 minutes, I learned at least two helpful things that will be very useful in modeling clothes, and honestly, that's more than I usually learn watching long drawn out 30 minute videos with the person taking quiet and slow(which really rides on my anxiety..). Plus you didn't over explain the simple stuff, which also really gets on my nerves when people do that.
Very relevant content, man, does having thick clothing interfere with rigging, wheight paint? In the case of an animation does it use thickness or not? Let's suppose I bring a marvelous outfit and do the retopology, then it will be thick, right, I hope you understand what I mean. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
in the same place that mike found the base character model there is also clothing if that helps. Not very complex pieces of clothing but still good bases to start with
I have a question. When you say delete the history do you mean delete all by type history? or delete by type history? I am still getting the hang of Maya
entirely up to you. The base model is pretty ugly and not the best topology but I use the base model from maya with pretty much any character I start and then take it into ZBrush and model it up nice, importing it back into maya to retopologize and then marvelous for clothing but doing what mike did will still give you passable results just not very individual.
@@MHTutorials3D would you be able to show a way that isn't taxing the hardware so that you could put it in a game? If that makes any sense haha, thanks in advance!
Thank you for the video. I have a character but i want to insert a clothing from my data to maya how can i do that ? I want the clothing on the character but its in my data
instead of using the thickness option, i just used dragged the blue arrow that shows up (like how you would extrude something manually). That fixed it for me
I am trying to make a suit through this, I am finding it so difficult to… please I really need help in doing this and it’s very urgent… please I need help or rather still work with someone who can get it done for me… i just have limited time… urgently
I disliked this video not because the information was bad or even unhelpful, but for the fact that so much time was wasted in getting to the point of everything and not having the tutorial planned out. The sponsee in the middle is extremely distracting and takes away focus, and the “hmm, let me just figure this out in the middle of filming” bit that could have taken you five minutes to figure out and plan before actually recording. Not to be super negative about it. I just feel like the tutorial would be more helpful to people learning the material if it isn’t just slapped together on a whim. You know what you’re doing, but sometimes it’s helpful to plan out how best to explain it to people who may not understand it in the same ways.

Thank you for this learned a lot , I forgot about the human generated options
How did you made this selection in 1:50. You saying "I'm gonna start hit shift period" but which keys did you hit that time.
Finally I make cloth using ncloth..
really thank for your uploading ..
Is the ‘nCloth’ node effective for clothes when making animations on a rigged character?
how do you make rolled sleeves in maya?
Always Cool tutorial 🖖
Can this be 3D printed?
I am angry because I found this on happenstance well after I gave up on modeling clothing. Ha, guess i'm back at it, thank you.
in the same place that mike found the base character model there is also clothing if that helps. Not very complex pieces of clothing but still good bases to start with
nice..we need more clothing in maya
Thank you
Thank you

Great more techniques to making clothes modeling.
Sure, what do you need ?
@@MHTutorials3D Can you please make a pant making tutorials ?💕💕👍
is there a way to do this for a custom model?
excellent
I have a question. When you say delete the history do you mean delete all by type history? or delete by type history? I am still getting the hang of Maya
"Edit / Delete by type / History" Tina
Would this be the proper way to make a character? Where you make the basic naked body, and then a thin layer of clothing?
entirely up to you. The base model is pretty ugly and not the best topology but I use the base model from maya with pretty much any character I start and then take it into ZBrush and model it up nice, importing it back into maya to retopologize and then marvelous for clothing but doing what mike did will still give you passable results just not very individual.
Mike, how do you do this, but with a buttoned shirt? Like, what if I want to have a few buttoned parts and unbuttoned parts of the shirt?
Search for ncloth constraints, is what you looking for.
Nate Reaver Thanks! I’ll look into it.
I would like to know how would you make it into an overcoat? would you just extrude the bottom until it matches the size you want?
Yep, that is one way of doing it

@@GrassIsTheName Well, it depends on whether you want the garment to stick to the body like a T shirt and deform with the body OR actively like a cape
@@MHTutorials3D Yeah I guess sticking to the player like a garment would be ideal for this, what do you recommend?
@@GrassIsTheName In that case the clothing is just modeled onto the body as part of the model

when i add thickness to mine, the polygons get super spiky and out on control. any idea why?

Blender is better than 3ds Max and Maya in physics and all things.
Ok use blender then, this is a tutorial for Maya, so run along.
