- STILL HURTING
(The Last 5 Years)
Jamie is over and Jamie is gone.
Jamie's decided it's time to move on.
Jamie has new dreams he's building upon,
And I'm still hurting.
Jamie arrived at the end of the line.
Jamie's convinced that the problems are mine.
Jamie is probably feeling just fine,
And I'm still hurting.
What about lies, Jamie?
What about things that you swore to be true?
What about you, Jamie?
What about you?
Jamie is sure something wonderful died.
Jamie decides it's his right to decide.
Jamie has secrets he doesn't confide,
And I'm still hurting.
Go and hide and run away!
Run away,
Run and find something better!
Go and ride the sun away!
Run away, like it's simple,
Like it's right...
Give me a day, Jamie!
Bring back the lies,
Hang them back on the wall!
Maybe I'd see
How you could be
So certain that we
Had no chance at all.
Jamie is over and where can I turn?
Covered with scars I did nothing to earn?
Maybe there's somewhere a lesson to learn,
But that wouldn't change the fact,
That wouldn't speed the time,
Once the foundation's cracked
And I'm
Still Hurting.
lea salonga, song, that, changed, my, life, les miserables, on my own, miss saigon, aladdin, princess jasmine, philippines, the voice of the philippines, musical, theatre, allegiance, kim, eponine, fantine, cinderella, the last 5 years, still hurting, musical, rehearsal
I just can't understand how this woman's voice is flawless and clear as water everysingle time she performs...she can't be human
I have been thinking the same thing, too. She is the GODDESS OF MUSIC.
I cried when I was able to see her live in Allegiance. Absolutely gorgeous voice, and so talented. I wanna know her secrets!
Breath support, a good understanding of resonation, in tune, diction, syllabic stress, etc
Add me. HAHA
The answer to that is she's filipina soooo
HAHAH that one guy in the audience who was just like "nice!"
same dude. same.
I noticed that! I laughed so hard. Seeing as this is a rehearsal, its probably the director or someone similar.
Dan Keeley It was Victor Lirio.
For some reason it made me so happy. Like they're all so supportive.
When?
soph karps lmao I was cackling
Wow. This is perfection. Every version of Cathy I have heard is borderline scratchy: This is sweet, smooth, bittersweet, and hurt. I could listen to this all day.
Totally agree! I've never heard a version of this song where the bridge section sung in an unpleasant belt. Her tone is so smooth and never loses its tenderness even on the high notes
Benjamin Boquist Im honestly searching for another singer whose tone is as smooth as hers! No matter what register she's on, it's equally smooth and powerful! Im jealous
+M Hix Very true. This is the best version of Still Hurting I've ever heard, and this is a rehearsal. Do you guys know how people behind the play choose a Cathy?
Well they're supposed to be crying so....
You can feel the emotion behind it, right? Omg, I'm crying
This song has a simplicity and truthfullness of emotion that makes it the greatest of its kind since Send in the Clowns. Like that song, it requires subtley and a depth of emotional honesty that cannot be "faked" Lea Salonga's performance is exactly what is needed. She maintains a "composed" exterior while at the same time revealing the pain and hurt that lie underneath. A spectacular performance of a spectacular song.
mjmacmtenor check out Cynthia Erivo's version!
@@ladydiva3337gmail I did.... I prefer Lea.
this performance makes me want to cry and i don't even know what the original show is about.
+agators212 You should see it!
Bruh this song made me cry multiple times lol
I feel like I just lost someone ... Hell, I dont even know any Jamie
niuniu omg same
I mean, Salonga's voice is beautiful and pure and so emotive and all of that, but for me it is her acting that is the standout in this performance. This song has some tricky parts but it's not a technical tour-de-force for any well-trained singer; even moreso than some other pieces of musical theater, selling it is all about the emotion behind the words, especially as the show-opener (though I realize this is a rehearsal). Shit, *I* wanted to run out the room at the "like it's simple, like it's right" icy death-stare.
Also, slight lol at rehearsal piano, but he did a great job faking when he got tripped up.
Zac David you don't even have to look at Lea as she sings, you can get the full meaning and emotion of the song just by listening to her.
Vocal technicality aside, this is where I really felt raw emotions from Leah. I mean of course she killed the emotions in On my own, I dreamed a dream and songs as such, but this is where I truly felt her like as if this is her story to tell. Still hurting is a heart break song. What's complicated about it is the song is too depressing but the emotions you have to deliver is numbness and shock while still maintaining the pain and sorrow. That's what she did. SHE NAILED IT HERE. The emotions resonate through. Goddamn, this is why she is a force to be reckoned with on the Broadway scene.
Her voice at 4:11 is just soooo raw. I can feel that she really is hurting, if that makes sense. It's like real life, ykno? This version is my favorite.
Mits Santos just a rehearsal... fyi.
Her range and clarity frighten me.
she slays this song! I listened to anna kendrick's version 5 times before I listened to this one, and this version is the only one that made me weep.
anna kendrick's was the only one that made me cry, because i felt she held a lot more emotion in her voice.
thatdamlex plus Anna crying is heartbreaking
I cried with both versions...
technicality wise. Lea's better. hehe
"Covered in scars I got nothing to earn".
She had shaken my innermost emotion that left me with just the silence of my tears....
And this is rehearsal?! Magnificent. She puts everything on this 😭.
i watched her live in concert last night, and this song, albeit not being my favourite, definitely woke something deep inside of me. lea is inarguably flawless when it comes to technicalities but the emotions she conveys through this beautiful song play several, untouched chords in me at a time. i managed to record all the other songs she performed and i was supposed to record this too, of course, but i didn't even realise until the end of the performance that i had dropped my phone on the floor. lea doesn't "sing", she captivates.
That's Kim, Princess Jasmine and Mulan for you!
Dont let a person with depression listen to this version.... this is sooooooooo real!!!! You can feel the hurt... the pain... Lea Salonga is the bomb!!!
U know some people with depression usually recovers by listening songs like this🎵❤
It makes me smile to read the comments on all of Lea's youtube clips and see that just about every single person says the same thing .... "ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!!" ... that pretty much sums up Lea Salonga ... There's no other singer that has ever touched my soul as deeply as she does.
I feel the same way! :) Enjoying all your comments & I absolutely love Lea & her beautiful voice :) I can't believe I just saw this now. Do you know where she performed this?
Is there anything within her vocal range that she is not the perfect choice for???
pop songs. well she can also sing those, but her voice is perfectly created by God for musical theatre.
pop songs. well she can also sing those, but her voice is perfectly created by God for musical theatre.
I've realized it's not about her vocal ability , it's about her ability to connect to any emotional song and convey it.
@@temporaryphase Exactly.
The last "and I'm..." always makes my tears overflow.
BEST version EVER. I've watched this so many times over the years. Beautiful!!!
so perfect, right emotion, right tune, amazing voice control... I can feel she's really into the character she's into... WOW!!!
The queen of secret emotion. She appears calm and keeps a perfect voice yet gets every emotion and expresses clearly.
That’s one of the best versions I’ve listened to of this song , alongside the Portuguese version of the musical 🎤 🎶 , here in Lisbon !! I have always loved 🥰 the strong and sweet voice, the attitude, the dramatic way of singing and performing of Lea Salonga since “Les Miserables “ ❤❤ and this song met perfectly my expectations!! Congrats , miss Salonga , keep on enchanting us with your amazing 🤩 voice !!!!
I have been returning to this link from time to time for almost a year...
Same.
I honestly just went all out trying to find a version of this song that could surpass this or showed more emotion...and I have failed. It's not like I didn't expect it. It's Lea Salonga after all. This woman is a goddess.
try to look for another filipina singer...regine velasquez at the theater...sounds better than this...its only an audio recording because video taking is not allowed but worth listening...trust me!?
+jemigs tolentino no
no...
jemigs tolentino Nope, try again. Regine belts, but would not sound good in a musical
Cynthia Erivo does an absolutely stunning rendition. I will always love this AND the OBC, but Cynthia did it in a really gorgeous and unexpected way as well
She always makes her version a lot better than the others... Goshhh what a perfect voice..
The excitement of the movie brought me here to listen to Lea's absolutely wonderful version of this. Simple, honest, and just...living it. Fantastic.
STUMBLED UPON THIS. Literally gave me chills. I almost started crying at my office.
That last “I’m” is so vulnerable, so raw and real.
When my teacher showed us this video in class, I just loved the song so I searched the musical online and saw they were gonna make a movie. Now I just watched the movie but Lea's voice can't be beaten
Why did your teacher show this to you for? Just asking!
You know a singer is really amazing when you get affected by a song you can't relate to. Closest word to describe this versio.n is flawless.
Absolute perfection indeed. I have watched and listened to countless recordings and no one sings it better than Lea. :)
I just watched the movie with Anna Kendrick and I love it and Anna’s performance is wonderful. I go on YT and I find this and the moment Lea sings the first line, my jaw drops... what a voice. Oh lea lea.
I love the fact she's not wearing makeup, it really helps with conveying the message of the song.
I can feel the intensity of her emotions...I really admire Lea and her singing, so magnificent!:-)
Gorgeous rendition! How have I never heard this performance before?!?!
Took the words out of my mouth! I couldn't believe it when it popped up in the recommendations. Brilliant beyond brilliant job.
Wow... just look in her eyes! She's pouring her heart out in this song!
Just plain wonderful. Her voice is perfect and the emotion she puts behind it is so sincere, it's heartbreaking.
Feb 2019, listening to this - ; not for the first time, nor the last. Beautiful rendition!
WOW! The best delivery of "What about you" I've seen.
You can feel the message of the song with her emotions. Wooooow. Superb lea, superb!!!
Her voice is flawless
Happy to say I saw Salonga on Broadway in "Miss Saigon" and at a taping of Carson's "Tonight Show".
She looks beautiful even without makeup!!!!! WOW
I've watched this video so many times for so long and her voice is SO DAMN INCREDIBLE
Some comment brought me here because someone said that she was 'screechy' like how the hell does she sound screechy when in fact, she sounds like an angel🤯
Sure, Anna Kendrick can't live up to Lea Salonga's version, but then again, NO ONE can live up to Lea Salonga xD
#truth
Jennifer Holliday can lol
Ariana Grande can do this easily
SomethingMoree4 With Ariana, its about covering her lack of technique with too many runs and yelling. That's not singing properly. Lea's technique is spotless and flawless. She is a purist that sings what's written without having to hide anything. I'm sorry, and I'm not trying to pick a fight, but Ariana has nothing on Lea.
+SomethingMoore4 Ariana was good when she was like 13 (defying gravity cover) but not anymore. She tends to eat her words when she's singing, if that makes any sense.
wow. how could such a human being sing so beautifully :(
I love you, Lea, forever. This rendition is the best ever.
perfect. best version . 😭
Seriously, how could three people not like this? O.O
Now its four dislikes. There are people out there that's hard to please or not as open minded to hear a different version of the song.
I feel sad for them.
My GOD this is just too perfect.
Keeps breaking my heart everytime I watch this rendition of her. Captures my heart in every aspect
Straight singing, singing without the vocal acrobatics that other young singers resort to, is the test of a true singer and a superior voice.
Makes me want to run inside my room, tuck my self in my sheets and cry.
Best of all the versions I've heard. Grabe. Pati yung facial expression.
Chills overload. Wooooh. *sigh* *replay button raped*
The most moving rendition, yet.
2020 and still listening to this masterpiece. ❤❤❤
If you think this sounds great, you should really watch her live.
ah. i always come back to this
Perfect. I've never heard this sung better.
this is one of my favorite musicals
This is the most heartbreaking rendition I have ever heard. Lea, you are amazing!
Ahhhhgh why didn't I know about this before???? It's perfect!!!! 😱😱😍😍❤️❤️
I want a vocal battle between two of my favorite singers: Idina Menzel and Lea Salonga
No~ I don't want competition, I just want perfection added to another perfection
Plus, them outdoing each other would be hilarious XD
Their voices are basically angels crying and my favorite food
Idina Menzel cannot hold a candle to Lea Salonga.
Ms. Idina Menzel is great but is only shouting for high notes. She sounds scattered at times. Ms. Lea Salonga has a smooth and very beautiful voice from the lowest up to the highest notes. Very beautiful and crystal clear. Never gets croaky and never shouts for the high notes. And she can connect to the song very well. Plus her breathing can be barely heard after each line. Very amazing! I have always watched her concerts and I am always amazed on how she can sing almost 30 songs without getting her voice scratchy.
Well, to be fair, Idina Menzel does have asthma~
Plus, I now want to add Renee Elise Goldsberry to this epic vocal battle~ she's now one of my new favorites 😂😂😂

the shouting is belting which is harder to hit higher notes with than head voice, so the shouting high notes is actually pretty impressive. it's just a different vocal technique than Lea genersally uses. I think they both have unique gorgeous voices that can't really be compared to each other
Lea Salonga is perfection! I just wish there was a video of her doing "See I'm smiling" from this same session.
It's Dec. 25, 2020...
and I'm still...listening.
...And this is a rehearsal...?...The most raw and pure I've heard her. Quite moving.
My favorite rendition
that feeling when your heart wants to get out from your chest. that was beautiful! oh Lea..
Best rendition of this song I ever heard!
I don't want to ever have to sing this song. i don't want a Jamie in my life.
Came back here after Lea Salonga's Masterclass last night 🤧💖
FUCK this makes me feel everything
The best I've ever heard.
her voice is godly
Im still watching this
"That's gorgeous"...Understatement.
She is beyond this world!!!
I love Anna Kendrick. But once I listened to this, I just couldn't go back to the movie version again.
I have listened to other's rendition and this is way better than the others :) Very compelling
Wow,that's the only way to describe this singer
So much under the surface. So pristine. She really is perfection.
The best version of this song, imho.
shes amaaaaaaazing
2018, and Im still hurting.
Still my favorite rendition
I just lost the love of my life and this made me cry. I'm still hurting. 😢
I'm a big fan of Lea. She sings effortless... Amazing.
Rehearsal for the Broadway: 4 Stars Concert which was held in Tokyo, Japan, in June 2013. Lea performed with Sierra Bogess (Love Never Dies, Little Mermaid, Phantom), Ramil Karimloo (Phantom, Les Mis) and Japanese star, Yu Shirota (Prince of Tennis and Sailormoon).
This is crazy good. But I can't shake Anna Kendrick's version, her voice is just so smooth and powerful and the emotion she has pierces the depths of my soul.
Mariah Vega . me too.. maybe it's because i can hear her crying while singing the song.. which makes it sadder..
Seeing Lea everytime she sings makes me more proud to be a Pinay!way to go Lea.. you've raised the bar so high and the whole of your Nation is so proud of you!
She sang it even better.
This is totally a perfection!!! 💖
For the movie version, lea is too old for the part, but I have heard several women sing this song, and this is the best version I have heard... the second best is a fellow former Eponine Samantha Barks who played the part on stage.
Damn i cried...
i love Leah Salonga from philippines
So pretty omgg I love this
Simply Amazing!!
So perfect
Gorgeous. Cynthia Erivos version is the stand out for me but Lea Salonga 🥰🥰🥰 she's something else 💕💖
