praise
Allen Rene Louis couldnt agree more
she is wonderful and gifted yes..
Yes
yes
To sing a song about being utterly defeated, yet to stand with such dignity and strength... how is she even doing this? Queen Cynthia we are not worthy.
Holy mother of God... Jaw-dropping.
^^^Yes! That’s exactly what she’s doing here. I could not find words other than wow and gaga. You’ve said it perfectly.
So true
Anyone in 2024 still listening to it ?
noticing that Ariana Grande also sang the exact same song as Cynthia and the fact that they are acting together in “Wicked” and being friends makes their bond really special if you notice
If my voice was ever even a tiny portion like hers, I would never talk. I would just sing everything.
Im back in 2024 I can’t believe I’ve been watching this off and on for 8 years.
The way she delivers “Jamie is probably feeling just fine” is so incredible.
Cynthia: What about-
Me: LOVE
Cynthia: -lies, Jamie
Me: Oh, shit. I forgot
Linnamonroll lol
Linnamonroll this is me!!! 😭😭😭😭
Cynthia adds so much to this (compared to previous people we won’t mention). I watch the moment at 1:30 over and over. The way she switched from mournful to a flash of steely anger is absolutely everything. This woman is a gift to the entire world.
Shannon Driscoll you should see Ariana version on this!
Lea Salonga’s performance of this song is EVERYTHING.
One of the saddest songs in musical theater, sung masterfully. Brava. Her combination of power and vulnerability make for an outstanding Cathy.
Musical theater is wild because I thought I had one opinion about Cathy and now I have a completely new one for this Cathy
I got ghosted by my boyfriend and quickly after I found out I was pregnant with his kid. Texted him but he still hasn’t contacted me. I haven’t told my friends but one of them sent me this song yesterday. I can’t communicate enough to them how much I love it.
everything will turn out just fine, i believe in you
you'll get through this!
Failuretocomeupwithabettername I’m wishing you Godspeed my love. Everything will be just fine. You have strength and importance, just worry about that baby growing. Love is inevitable and will find you again. Your friends will pick up where he left off.
Failuretocomeupwithabettername stay strong! That is heartbreaking but find your support system and stick to it! Find the light and find the strength to push through❤️ Prayers and blessings coming your way! Stay safe and positive❤️
Failuretocomeupwithabettername stay strong beautiful🤍sending you lots of love!
I love how Cynthia Erivo presents a Cathy different to how Anna Kendrick portrayed the character. I think that's so cool. Same story but different personalities does that make sense
Perfect sense ! I completely agree with you too .
I adore this song and every version I've heard is beautiful but paints a different picture. Sherie's is very soft, bittersweet so to speak. Anna's is angry-bitter, the sort of "what did I do that was so wrong?" sort of feel. Lea's is absolutely heartbreaking. Ariana's is soft, mournful, almost sweet. Cynthia's is sort of a mix of the mournful aspect and bittersweet aspect
the way she attacks her entrances is so beautiful, there’s no sliding into that first note, she already has it and it’s so effortless. it’s a real show of how talented she really is
I want her to play every role in every show. Too much to ask?
She would do amazing as literally anything😍
omg that would be everything
Absolutely not. Completely valid request. She can do everything!
well she played half the roles in this one! lol
her singing is absolutely beautiful... but the facial expressions, and story telling is simply magnificent. SO much pain.
I honestly can't think of anyone who can act a song as well as Cynthia Erivo does, while also SLAYING the vocals. Is she a human or a god???
AmeliaBell28 She is 100% God.
AmeliaBell28 I think Anna Kendrick does it pretty well. But every preformer interprets a character differently. And if every preformer did it the exact same way as previously then it would become boring.
Lea Salonga for me yet this is beautiful too.
AmeliaBell28 she’s absolutely amazing I totally agree. You should check out Lindsay Mendez as well. These ladies can not only SANG but tell a story and invest themselves so much
Wow. Just wow. Cynthia Erivo is that rare singer who not only has an extraordinary voice - range, tone, control, power, beauty, you name it - but can also tell a story or reveal a character within a song like almost no one else singing today. She is just amazing.
How can this woman act so subtly but w so much impact?? Amazing
That last "I'M" gives me chills every...single...time.
I didn't realize this was from 2016. I've really been thinking about this rendition for 8 whole years...
When will New York audiences properly recognise Jason Robert Brown's awesome talent?
Right?
How can a voice can be so crystal clear, covey such emotions and be the strongest at the same time 🙏🏻
JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL I AM NOT EMOTIONALLY STABLE
Honestly, same.
At this point he needs to take the whole car coz👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
This made me laugh so much XD
Every couple months I’m reminded of this cover and I get to enjoy it (and cry) all over again
Jesus Christ I was NOT ready for this!
I loved the last “and I”m”..... still hurting. The way she released the note was like the character screaming in frustration for the life she will no longer have. Well done! Chills. 👏🏻
Ms.Cynthia Erivo is a gift.
her voice is stunning and her acting and the levels of her acting is so honest. Honestly, I personally think she was way better then the movie with Anna Kendrick with this song. It gives me shivers every time.
I was teary eyed even before she hit the chorus. The pain and betrayal struck me.
By far the best version. Both powerful and character driven whereas a lot of other versions are one or the either
Her voice is so effortless full of so much emotion
I was there last night crying in the balcony! It was like hearing the songs for the first time. Cynthia Erivo and Joshua Henry blew me away.
There are no words to properly say how beautifully hauntingly fabulous this is.....
what a fantastic performance. this is my first video of cynthia, but i've always loved this musial. i'm definitely going to watch more of cynthia's videos!!
She’s so talented at this point I feel like she’s not really a person anymore and more just pure goddess. We are mortals to Cynthia and do not deserve her.
That look at 1:30 breaks my heart every time! She was really performing from her soul
Oh my... this is the most wonderful version of this piece I've seen. Stunning.
Having come to the show as a cellist performing it straight after a 5yr relationship ending, it will forever have a special place in my heart!
Gosh, Cynthia's voice gives me butterflies in my stomach and evokes all sorts of feelings. Her voice is so sweet yet hunting. Crazy!!!
Superb! Jason Robert Brown brilliantly rethought this musical by getting people of color for this concert. I hope he'll consider to do this kind of engagement again and get Asian actors to play Jamie and Cathy (Lea Salonga will be perfect!).
have you heard her version? just utter perfection.
I did! Lea's version of this song is the best I've heard!
This comment is older but I also love the idea of doing TL5Y w/ a same-sex couple! I think Barrett Wilbert Weed as Jamie and Megan Hilty as Cathy.
@@juliaunger913 I've always thought a same-sex version of this show would be an incredible update and an interesting take on the story and characters. (Also, I've always wanted to play Cathy so a male version of her songs would be amazing lol)
She is sublime.
This is the very first song I ever heard Cynthia Erivo sing. I’ve been a fan ever since! ❤
Goodness. Just incredible.
Both an actress and a singer. Not more of one than the other.
Only with the loss of 'Great Love' can one fully understand this heartbreak. Captured perfectly here by the delightful Cynthia Erivo. I don't know where you feel this pain from to sing this song Cynthia.... but I am sorry you were hurt so badly. This is not simply singing or acting. This is experience... this is feelings. Poise and pure class. #EGOT2020
I've seen this about 10 times now and I still have goosebumps. I'm amazed by her voice
I'm so in love with song and this woman... I went and watched other versions of this and hers is by far the best. she's amazing!
I've heard this song so many times. Her version never fails to make me cry. She is fantastic.
What an amazing night. I'm so honored to have been there for it. Cynthia is flawless.
Are you kidding😭 this is exquisitely expressed! We needed her to sing this.
Some how she made this 100 times more powerful without any tears at all. I don't think I'll be able to listen to the original again. This is BEAUTIFUL
i remember performing this show....what an amazing writer...Kudos to you sir.
Her voice is positively beautiful.
CYNTHIA????? THIS MAKEs me so much more excited to see her in wicked. oh my god.
She glows, so radiant 💖💖
She's so amazing and super lucky to perform on the same stage with my favourite writer of all time !!
My favorite version. I keep coming back for her raw emotion.
To have the pleasure of being introduced to Cynthia by this song? WOW. Such control and expression.
This is the greatest I've ever heard the song sung. Simply beautiful
Incredible performance - you can tell she's a trained actress as well as a phenomenally talented vocalist
Amazing, performed with such conviction and raw emotion..she is my inspiration!
What a gorgeous voice
The more and more I listen to this song, particularly this version, it cuts me even more deeper. Wonderful work Mr. Brown, and amaziiiing performance Ms. Erivo!
I've honestly never not cried listening to this song when it comes up. Lea Salonga in rehearsal, barefaced with just a black shirt on, and this of Cynthia are just... They're my favorite.
This is awfully wonderful. My goodness, thank you for posting this!
Apart from Mrs. Lea Solanga's rendition this is hands down THE best rendition I've ever heard this sung. Absolutely heartbreakingly stunning 💗 #BlackExcellence 🙌🏽💁🏽✊🏽💗
Lily Disla Cause she can't compare with white excellence or brown excellence? How about just excellence. This human exhibits excellence. #stopsegregation
wowzer lmaoooo
I prefer Anna Kendrick's version
wowzer alright
Lily Disla Ariana grande just did hers and it was amazing😍
this play this song makes me cry everytime. it breaks my heart everytime
I'm not crying, you are..
. . just something in my eye . . . lol
i didnt blink thats why... haha
her eyes have so much emotions wow this is my first video I watch of miss Erivo's. I'm blown away
This performance is almost too much for my senses to take in. Sublimely, tragically beautiful.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
Lovely and she's such a gem.
It’s not even the voice (which is insane) it’s the ACTING.
Incredible. I could listen to this every day. HOLY TOLEDO VOCAL TECHNIQUE!!!!! Not even to mention the heartfelt delivery!!!!!!!
This one performance of this one song of a show I only had a passing knowledge of before made me go buy the indie film, both available cast albums, and scour the web for everything I could learn about this concert. Thank God someone uploaded the concert audio so I could hear the full brilliance of Henry and Erivo on all of the songs, especially "The Last Ten Minutes" and "Summer in Ohio," which stopped the show cold. Their interpretations are bar none my favorite of all I've heard, and I've heard some of my Broadway faves perform this piece since first encountering this clip of Erivo embodying lyrics so perfectly simple, aching, and true that they climb down into your soul and make a home there. Of course, I've subsequently shared this with literally everyone I knew. We so, so, so need an official DVD or CD of this recording (which this clip shows was clearly pro-shot at some point). I know folks who'll gladly give you their coins for it. It's that one-of-a-kind performance people can talk about for years.
Mic'd but not a muffler covering her face. Might be some post production, but not auto-tuned to within an inch of its life. She doesn't need it. Ms Ervio is perfection just as she is.
she makes anything she sings look effortless
So beautifully talented ❤❤❤
crazy how it’s been two years but i’m still crying over this
Ah her voice is absolutely insane!!😻
I just spent the past hour listening to(and favoriting) Cynthia Erivo videos. She's amazing.
If you watch this once a day it'll add 20 years on your life guaranteed
Every time she opens her mouth my heart soars.
Oh my gawd so gooooood! I absolutely love Cynthias pacing and that slight rasp in her voice. In love!
Breathtaking performance! Cynthia Erivo changed my mind about this song. I love JRB and love the last five years, but this was my least favorite song on the cast albums and soundtrack. Cynthia Erivo’s interpretation is masterful. She brings so much strength, vulnerability, and unwavering presence to the song. I’m in awe!
Wow. Just wow. I could watch this forever.
Completely in love with her voice!
Untouchable
Really appreciate you uploading these videos!!
I had no idea THIS was our new Elphaba, beautiful voice. ❤
LOVE this! Can't stop watching it over and over again'
She has an absolutely incredible voice! What a performance.
I must say. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever listened to.
Gorgeous version!
Literally crying over here. What a beautiful soul.
I've always liked the last 5 years but I think I just fell in love with it...for example 2:25 that's the first time that note hasn't sounded like whine to me. Go Cynthia!
Jamie is over and Jamie is gone
Jamie's decided it's time to move on
Jamie has new dreams he's building upon
And I'm still hurting
Jamie arrived at the end of the line
Jamie's convinced that the problems are mine
Jamie is probably feeling just fine
And I'm still hurting
What about lies, Jamie?
What about things
That you swore to be true?
What about you, Jamie?
What about you?
Jamie is sure something wonderful died
Jamie decides it's his right to decide
Jamie's got secrets he doesn't confide
And I'm still hurting
Go and hide and run away
Run away, run and find something better
Go and ride the sun away
Run away like it's simple
Like it's right...
Give me a day, Jamie
Bring back the lies
Hang them back on the wall
Maybe I'd see
How you could be
So certain that we
Had no chance at all
Jamie is over and where can I turn?
Covered with scars I did nothing to earn
Maybe there's somewhere a lesson to learn
But that wouldn't change the fact
That wouldn't speed the time
Once the foundation's cracked
And I'm
Still hurting
why am I barely discovering this video right now?! She did amazing!!!!!
I love her! She shines in this role. Such a special talent.
Please upload the rest of this musical. I would love to see more!
