Hey Tim, thanks for this. 1st timer. I will review it again before arriving. Got very lucky with my transportation up to the show. I'm crewing on the Leopard 50 that will be in the show. We're delivering the boat from Ft. Lauderdale to Annapolis. Hope to see you there!
SWEEEETTT!!!!
Wish we were going this year. We went last year (second time) and always have a load of fun. Pro tip, bring multiple layers, it can be 50 F and rain, then 80 F and blazing sun. Also, shoes that are comfortable and are easy to get on and off and dry quick.
Pussers is closing its doors… the decor is on auction in fact. 😢
Come by Valhalla Sailing…Veterans sailing organization. You’ve definitely been instrumental in my new sailing journey!
What ! ????????????
Thanks so much for this video and all the helpful comments!
congrats on _not_ drinking !
Thank you! Cheers!
Parking at the stadium lot and shuttle bus to the show works well. The crowds on Saturday are part of the fun! Cheers
Can't wait, thanks for the tips.
Tip #5.5 -- Take a water taxi to one of the used boat sales that are often found at marinas in Spa or Back Creek. A few years ago we went to Port Annapolis Marina for a David Walters show that had reasonably priced older boats you can more easily board and view with no crowds or lines. We came close to buying a Hylas then but ended up buying a Shannon there the following Spring.
Can you be more specific about this? You just go to the water taxi and ask about used boats open for viewing?
@@TheJewBear100 No. There will be advertisements somewhere: posters displayed around City Dock, listings in the show guide, booths sponsored by brokers.
I’m not even a sailor and that looks like a blast.
It is fun and everyone is there to have a good time
Thanks for the tips Tim. Great Video!
Any time!
Protip, If you're a veteran or military you can park at the Naval academy for free. It's usually never packed no matter what day it is!
There is a heavily discount boat sale in Florida right now around the big bend area.
Great advice as always Tim!
Thank you for all you Do!!!⛵️🏝️💪🏼👍🏼
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Tip: the boat show is also open on Thursday so if you are able to attend that day the crowds are very light.
Yes, surprised more people don’t take advantage of Preview Day on Thursday. Much less crowded. Although it’s a few bucks more expensive (we got our tickets buy one, get one free last December), but well worth it to avoid the heavier crowds on Friday and Saturday. You can also get into Pussers for lunch on Thursday with little to no wait. Do agree with the strategy to get there right at opening, see the boats in the morning, do lunch at Pussers and then do the vendor tent village in the afternoon.
Glad to see your video, we are attending the show, and Friday is a better day. Hoping to possibly catch you about the show. We just cruise around the u-tube area. Waiting on long lines not my thing, but seeing the real people is fascinating, yeah your like royalty! Anyway, love your channel, hope to see you in person😎👍⛵️
I hope to see you as well!
This will be my second visit. Another tip for parking is the Stadium, they have a shuttle for those who are not able to walk long distances. I'm super happy my Mom is flying in and I get to bring her.
Canadian living in DC and a Patron. Been following for years. Hope to see you around Friday 👍. Otherwise enjoy the show and congrats on the Practical Sailor gig.
Thanks so much- I hope to see you also
This will be our 12th year and your tips are spot on. We will be there on Friday. Hope to see you.
Can't wait!
Boat show is open Thursday (preview) and Monday. East port middle school I’m told no longer is doing parking. People walk right by it, but in Pussers is the African Queen model from the movie. We’ve brought Eoti to the show a few times. Will do so again next year. Suggest rain gear, the king tide this year won’t be as bad. Bonus. Go sailing on the Woodwind. We arrive on Wednesday and video the show set up. Previous years we’ve caught lines for the boats that arrive from at sea.
If you can comfortably afford to pay to park, please let the good people of Eastport have their residential parking spaces
My tip is leave your credit card at home!
YESSSSS
If you plan to board boats bring shoes you will be asked to take off so think of what you wear going through TSA security at the airport.
Enjoy Pusser’s Pain Killer this year,we will ,as they are closing at the end of October! From what we heard from some staff is that the landlord would not renew the lease!
A Baltimore restaurant group made the hotel an offer they couldn’t refuse. In the end, the only thing I liked about Pusser’s was the painkillers, so I won’t miss it too much.
Really ? Wow! Lets hope they get the Annapolis vibe but if they have been doing the Baltimore water front thing they should know what they are doing. I doubt the hotel rooms could get cheaper though since they ,are of the chart now!
I’d love to see if you could find some trailer sailers, preferably with a swing keel and easily retractable mast. Doesn’t have to have to best performance numbers but something that could be used as a coastal cruiser, or be trailered to different lakes for weekend trips. As someone who lives in Durham Ont. there is so many bodies of water within a 4hr drive from home. Something with live aboard capability would be so convenient. I’ve mentioned this model before, not sure if they are still in production, but a Tes 28 Magnum or the 32 Dreamer would be amazing boats for the area in live. Rather than sailing just one of the Great Lakes for the summer, I could spend a week in the 1000’s island then pull out and trailer the boat up to the Bruce peninsula and spend another week in Lake Huron. Not to mention it’s shallow draft would allow for trips in the Trent system and countless large body lakes across Ontario. Imagine no longer needing a cottage when you can cottage in a trailer sailer on a different lake/beach every weekend? It would be awesome if you could find a trailer sailer to showcase. Even if she pricy, just nice to see what if anything is even out there. Thanks.
You want a MacGregor. I got an old 25ft for only a few thousand - CDN. Motor, trailer everything... swing keel, and able to drop the mast are important to some of us on the inland waterways. I am on the Rideau system.
McGregors are pretty cool boats. Nothing like water skiing behind your sailboat. Lol.
Take a look at the size of the tes, 32 dreamer. It doesn’t have the capabilities of water skiing behind it like the McGregor, but you can get three separate rooms with a flush head. I’ve seen a guy sailing on the Rideau with a tes 28 magnum. And as always my Canadian brother, F that tyrant Trudeau!
Wow! You dished out some good tips here! 🌞⛵🌴
Thanks for watching!
All great tips… My favorite restaurant is the Chart House and I take the water taxi that brings you right to their dock. Another tip, would say it to book your accommodations at least 6 months or more. One year, I ended up renting a sailboat for the weekend from a local resident, which was moored across the show and near the bridge. Another attraction I did a few years ago was visit the Annapolis Naval Academy, which is easily walking distance. Finally, parking, many local residents will let you part on their property for a reasonable fee. Last time, I paid $10 for the whole day and park on someone lawn…. BTW, many hotels that are outside Annapolis offer régulant shuttles back and forth to and from the show. So, you can leave your car at the hotel.
Another tip is to sign up for the crew that sets up the show and breaks everything down afterward.
Besides getting in the show free of charge, there is a big party for everyone on the crew at the end of the show that I am told tends to be epic.
Second, no trip to this area is complete without getting top-shelf crab cakes at a place like the Boatyard Bar & Grill or Eastport or the Edgewater Restaurant. They are not going to be cheap, but the value of the memory will make it a bargain.
For lunch, visitors also should get themselves a softshell crab sandwich.
Come on and move down here to sail the Bay, Tim!
First timer to the show, driving from Moncton, NB. Been to the Miami boat show 3 times, but this is the one I’ve always wanted to go. Thanks for the tips Tim. Just retired and looking for a good Caribbean Cruiser-home, to check off my childhood dream! See you there!
This is our first year attending and we are so excited! We will be attending on Thursday, 10/10, for many of the reasons previously stated (not as crowded, etc) but our biggest reason is we are looking for our next boat. Hopefully, we find it here. We've been on a mooring ball for the past couple of weeks and will be staying through the boat show.
There are old sailboats that do short harbor sails.
My preferred day is Thursday. Less crowded
Unfortunately I won’t make it this year. A car accident has put me out of commission.
Sorry to hear this
@@LadyKSailing it seems the universe does not want me to go cruising. It’s my second car accident that prevents me from going (in 2 years)
This is overcomplicating the whole thing. Just go and have fun.
Very few, if any, can afford any of boats on display. Still fun to look.
Part of the enjoyment at the show is that it's all of us, all together enjoying our passion for sailing, but not on our boats! Total immersion. If you do a little bit of homework and check pricing of anything you may want to purchase before going to the show, you will find there is good show pricing available on just about anything. While those prices are usually available online for a short time, I like the chance to look at the items and evaluate them myself before buying.
I see gas and diesel engines but has anyone used electric motors? With 3 400w solar panels. A 400 watt wind power windmill and 3 or more deep cycle battery's to power the electric motor wouldn't that reduce chances of fire and over all expenses in maintenance for your power system??
Thank you for all those tips!
We would like to go to the Anapolis spring show. Is it very different of the fall show?
My 7yo and I love going to the boat shows here on the west coast of florida. How did you like the Miami one? deff on our list.
Lots of construction in Eastport this year, so street parking is spotty from road to road, so be careful.
Last year Pussers will exist. It will be closing for good shortly after the show.
A lot of you tube patreon channel have show discounts
Nice shirt, but don't wear it in Annapolis, so I can wear mine. 😎
Monday is the last day this year
Is there a used sailboat for sail area and if so when is the best time to go?
Yes local brokerages all around the show and usually local brokers set up tents and showcases with ads for thier boats
@@LadyKSailing Vendors are usually to stressed out over the show. Not the best time for used boats. But you can got to Javins boat yard to see some.
Brokers are very active and looking for sales. There is a brokerage mooring field inside the spa creek bridge to the right (north).
I'll be there paddling around drunk in my canoe,...Still depressed that you put down my Irwin project boat. 😂
First time sailboat (Mac26S for Midwest lakes… eventually Erie; Gulf; Keys) owner this summer. Going to Annapolis Waypoint for a 6 day ASA class that ends on the 8th. One day to knock around town and tickets for Thur & Fri. What a blast! Thanks for the tips Tim and everyone. Booked a hotel out by the interstate and figured to Uber/Lyft to the show, or is public transit worthwhile?
I missed the Newport show this year unfortunately, I always look forward to the Outbound 46 particularly
A few others have mentioned already, but parking at the navy stadium and taking the shuttle in is the way to go.
Water taxi is something I never knew about!! I need to experience
Park in Eastport and take taxi to show, avoiding foot traffic at gate - must have ticket.
so if you're flying [out of toronto yyz or ytz] i guess its dulles int'l - that the best/closest to everyone's...anyone's ...knowledge?
We used BWI - seemed maybe a touch closer and a pretty straightforward drive. Might want to balance that against the flight cost
@@KDSailing much appreciated!
I have a military ID which helps with my parking and lodging. I camp at NSA right across the Severn River, which is $10/night. I always park on the Naval Academy which always has plenty of parking, including a faculty parking garage that is empty on the weekends.
Gate 1 will be closed to vehicles Sat/Sun, so be sure to use gate 8 to get in.
I went to the spring show - mistake.
Water taxi tip. . .great tip!!
How do you take a screen shot on your phone...🤔
I went to the Annapolis boat show a year and a half ago, and my plan was to buy many things I wanted for my boat's projects, but it was a turn off, as everything had to be ordered online, as vendors had products for demos, but not for sale there. I ended up getting a a lot of catalogs and brochures. Never went into any single boat, but did take pictures of boats with some features ideas for my refit. The food at the restarant was great. Not planning to buy a new boat, so don't plan to return. For me, it as a waste of time, though I enjoy the town, which I had been there before on a sailboat.
The spring show is less good for lots of reasons
Make dinner reservations before you go… you’ll be happy you did!
Go to the Charthouse get a table by the windows!
What about Thursday?
I was wondering the same thing about Monday.
@@welchsteven, Traditionally, the sailboat show was Fri-Mon due to the holiday. For the lat 2 years, sail and power shows swapped, so there was no Monday for sail. They’ve switched back, so Monday will be the closing day. Thursday is VIP day, which costs extra, but if you know a broker or vender, that’s the day to go.
That's my marina!
Does the show extend into the night ? What's a good safe spot to park a borrowed car ?
No, it closes up around 5. The dealers and reps need to close up and hit the town with everyone else. Nowhere you might park if you follow the guidelines is dangerous at all. If you go into Eastport, don’t go more than 3 blocks west of 6th street. The box shown in the video is entirely east of 6th. You can safely go west of there, just not too far.
Great Job Tim
Thanks for watching!
I don't own a smartphone. They waste your life.
It’s just a tool. Don’t give it more power than it deserves.
