My Dad has a 560 just begging to be restored. That smooth power was great running the blower. The tractor itself needed a little more rear end weight but it still is a marvelous machine.

I drove AC and John Deere tractors but the 560 is my favorite IH tractor.

When I was a kid on the farm, the 560 was my favorite tractor. That is until my Dad bought a 1206! : )

Yeah, I’ve got one sitting on my Arkansas farm rusting away and I’m emotionally tied to it. I’m sure dad bought it new and it’s the first tractor that I ever drove. That tractor planted 1000 acres of cotton every year for close to 20 years.

Great looking 560. The 560 was a big advantage to the farmer. Then there was the big brother 660 diesel both were great tractor's

Great story about a great tractor. It's great you were able to find it and restore it to the way you remember it. I was similarly emotionally attached to a 1953 Oliver 88, which is still in the family.

Which tractor was better in your opinion? The Farmall or Massey Ferguson? I'm doing some research on the two tractors now.

yes you become attached to them. my Dad had a Farmall in around 1967 or 68 I would love to find being 9 or 10 depending on the year it was the first thing I ever drove. would love to have it back. as Dad is gone now since 2008.

Yessir! You can get emotionally tied to a tractor! I had a 1967 706 with the D-310 German diesel engine, and my grandfather passed it down to my father, and my father, when he retired, passed it to me, and was mine, but my father ended up selling it out from under me because of his own issues, but it really destroyed me, because ever since I was old enough to even see, that tractor was in my life everyday. Yessir, they certainly become almost like a part of the family, I highly agree!

Hello ! Yes we do get emotionally attached to our tractors ! Your 560 is a beauty ! I have a 460 utility that was my favorite tractor growing up on the farm in upstate NY , mine is restored but still used for light haying work ! Enjoyed seeing you tractor !take care

fundsfordad. Hello! I too, have a 460 Utility that I got about six years ago with several Fast Hitch implements. I've rebuilt and restored the Carry All, a three bottom x 14" 312 plow, an 8' disc harrow with adjustable pitch and I have a couple of three point to Fast Hitch adapters, one of which I use for a box blade. My 460U has an IH 2001 front end loader on it and I really find it to be one of the most useful attachments to have around our old farm. Cheers! Whipple

@@Whipple1 hello ! im sorry i never saw your comment until today! i hope your enjoying your tractor still ? they r so fun ! our farm is getting smaller all the time , its mostly just me doing light haying and field maintenance, my favorite memories on the farm were leveling and packing the trench silo , and all time favorite thing to do was corn harvest time we would feed green silage from our forage wagons to cows in old tractor tire feeders ! oh what i would give to do that one more time ! great memories my 460 isn't going anywhere ! Cheers !

fundsfordad Better late than never! Yep, still have the old IH 460 Utility. It’s not getting as much use as it had been. Did some erosion control discing and seed bed prep earlier this spring and parked it in the shed. Waiting for retirement in two years to start a full blown restoration on it once I get more free time (hopefully).
Hope yours is still running strong!
      Cheers!

Story from the mid 60s of a 560 gas and a 720 gas, both pulling 4-16 plows in river bottoms with some patches of Gumbo. The Deere would lumber along and the 560 would almost catch him. Then they hit the Gumbo. The Deere kept right on, the 560 pulled the TA. Once thru, the 560 would hit the TA and start moving on the 720. They did that all day long. Next day the 560 went first. Same story of those 2 tractors chasing each other. The gasoline they burned was almost obnoxious. They both put 5 gallons in at lunch to make it until near dark. Tractor gas was like 18 cents a gallon, diesel was 12 cents.

Learned a 560 like this except a narrow front. Seemed like most of that era were because of front mount cultivators. At least in Iowa. Miss that awesome sound.

They can be pigs if you’re running them hard, doing tillage work and such. But otherwise they’re not so bad.

I believe that all farmers that have been around for 60 to 80+ years that are still farming most likely have a Quitman kicking around that they’ve had for years they may not use it but I do believe they get attached to it in a sense they may someday plan on redoing it and may never get to that which sadly happens or they just parked it there and didn’t think twice but when you go to asked them about if they would sell it they usually are hesitant because it something they remember using for years but they had forgotten about getting to restoring it or back in service or the fact they didn’t because they bought something newer that they ended up usin instead
