      Hey John, I just got atnt Fiber. I have the BGW210 that I was trying to passcode with my xr500. I did it, however my speeds get throttled big time and coming across a lot of lag spikes. I tried watching your videos, just got confused a bit. Any advice would be appreciated. Would you even recommend using xr500 or stick to regular BGW210 for competitive gaming. Thanks!

      Does it really matter for gaming using ip4 we’re talking a max 3ms here. Less than the time it takes to press a key. att is like virgin media setup in the U.K. the whole point of using a 3 rd party router is for the extra services by switching into ap mode your still stuck with the crappy firewall setups the built in Oem cable modem come with, you fail to mention that the issue is more to do with dual Nat it’s the same if you add a 3rd party firewall in between your still looking at the same amount of latency in ms , I’m happy to wait a few extra ms if it stops bob clampett from connecting in

    Now I notice that at 4:20 of your video, you showed your interface to you router, but never showed how to set the so-called bridge mode on your gateway (in my case it will be the browser interface to my at&t arris bgw210-700 gateway). So how do you do that?

    Good test. Thanks for the info. But, putting my 3rd party router in AP and relying on my ISP gateway for NAT and WAN firewall doesn't work for me security wise. Generally ISP gateways are just so-so in that regard, where-as 3rd party routers are much better.

    I just got att fiber installed and have a bgw210 gateway. I also have an xr500 router. I'm unsure i've configured everything correctly. at the moment i have ip passthrough enabled -> dhcp lease set to 99 days -> disabled packet filtering and all firewall settings on the gateway. How would you set it up? i've seen some talk about bypassing the bgw210 by using a dumb switch.

It disconnects me from my competitive games and it frustrates me that I cannot figure it out. I have tried putting it in DMZ mode, using a static IP, checked release timings (they are set at 24 or 48 hours), and lastly I’ve tried Dynamic QoS. Nothing has worked and I can’t figure it out. I’m to the end of my rope, I’ve tried just a general tracert and it seemed fine but I haven’t tried tracert the way you just did it. Do you think o configured my R7000P wrong?

      @@mass627 the carrier gear firmware is designed to be managed remotely not through a local IP.
      Carrier gateways are specially stripped down to basics to prevent support calls.
      I did some speed testing and ended up configuring "double NATing" with a couple "Port Forwards" I need opened.
      Testing showed my LAN Router runs faster behind the gateway than if exposed to all the Internet junk broadcast and port scanning. I leave that job to the carrier gateway.
      With carrier gateway in "bridge mode" my Router becomes pounded from Internet and that slows down my 700Mb/s speedtest...
      double NATing also keeps the cartier out of your VPN traffic and intranet data.
      The problem exposed in the video has everything to do with bad IPV6 setup. I would try all the different IPv6 connection types in Netgear's router until you get what you want.

    I think you are confused about how IPv6 routing works, at least on AT&T. With IPv4, you get one IP address, so DMZ+ mode works by transparently jumping to the upstream gateway. With IPv6, the RG is getting a subnet prefix and is allocated as an IPv6 router, and ends up as the default IPv6 gateway. If your non-AT&T router supports prefix delegation, it can get at least one /64 prefix. Unfortunately, the AT&T RG always gets one /64 IPv6 subnet prefix (and seems to take up /62 though). Also, the RG will only give out /64 prefixes, one per interface. The 2nd router should also support IPv6 router advertisement for it to work properly. All that said, I'm very unhappy with how AT&T has implemented IPv6 with their RG. I haven't found a config that allows use of the full /60 prefix delegation. Turning off IPv6 address allocation on the LAN interface of the RG seems to disable the ability to get a delegated prefix. Their RG always eats prefixes 0-7, and starts returning prefixes beginning with 8-f.

    1) When I try to use my third-party router (A Linksys WRT-1900ac) in "DMZplus" mode of my Pace 5268ac gateway. No matter what I try, the trace route command for IPv4 still shows a double-NAT going first from the router's LAN IP to the gateway's, then finally to the public IP address.
    2) While changing the 3rd-party router to "AP mode" as you say (i.e., place it in "Bridge Mode") gets rid of the double-NAT of course. The trace route command for IPv6 doesn't work in either situation.
    As the response command prompt message always says "Unable to resolve target system name" followed by whatever URL I attempt to use for it.

    I used to use an old router to share internet from a usb wwan dongle using network bridge.
    I would connect an Ethernet cable from it to the pc Ethernet socket, then bridge the Ethernet to the wwan on the pc.
    I could then share the wwan via the router.

      Only it will acts as a Pure modem to translate signals .....
      So Whenever settings up a router behind it...you won't face Double NAT issue

    well...in my setup , I tried the -4 it was ok ( with one exception, see below), but failed with -6 ...so I am here to get help.
    The reason I am using bridge mode is the fact the 3rd party router that I use has NO vdsl input(modem).
    so the ISP modem/router has x.x.x.254, and the 3rd party router x.x.x.1 And of course the ISP modem/router is in bridge mode !!!

  • @SimFootballFanatic
    @SimFootballFanatic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought the SB8200 because it had 2 ethernet ports and was gigabit capable.
    Big mistake.
    I used that site, whatsmyip/pingtest to see what my jitter/variation looked like and was jumpy as could be. +1 +5 +10 and everything in between. But that's not the worse part. I was doing the test and my wife began to start a YT video and the ping shot up to 150 and like 183. She turned off the video and I tested it a few more times and it happened again. I was like there's no way. The router is plugged into the 2nd port with all devices behind the router except the Ps4 and the console into port 1 by itself. Im not sure how having a switch built in would cause all this jitter and spikes but I kind you not, I switched back to the Sb6183 and the average variant was like .9 and everything looked amazing. More importantly, the spikes went away.

    • @SimFootballFanatic
      @SimFootballFanatic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, every time I tinker with router settings, the gameplay seems to get worse. I see youtubers out there with moderate nat types tearing it up. So what I do is factory reset the router, and let her go. Jitter, hit detection, inconsistent gameplay all seem to disappear. But the minute I start using qos or port forwarding, the game breaks. I've used the netduma and have seen dumaos. I'm not a fan of how it makes the experience inconsistent. I would be in favor of buying another rout that's not netgear or the model right before they implemented duma os on their devices. I think less is really more but that's my humble opinion. I just want a router with some power and that's all really. The host filtering and "Patented qos" just seem to mess up the gameplay. I will swear my router is dropping packets but I check the ping to the host and it all looks normal. It's weird because it feels like it's like super small micro stutters or something. Idk. I haven't had a good experience with netduma and their OS.

      Bridge mode basically turns your all-in-one gateway into a modem. You then add a dedicated router to provide the firewall, wireless access, etc. Most gateways are not as good as as a dedicated wifi router + bridges modem combo.

Im lost because im inable to get into the router settings because of the inconsistent connection. I was on the phone with my ISP for an hour and they couldn't figure it out and if i bring it back i have to buy a new one.
