Great video as always. This will most likely make you cringe (loop connections) but needing multiple lines is one of many reasons I started using a micro-skagit (OPST) set up, I mostly wade though. I carry sink tips in two different lengths in T3, T6 and T9 and then I also carry 2 different lengths of floating tips for nymphing, all of which fit nicely in one little wallet in my pack. Looking forward to the leader addition to this!
Thanks Brian, now all I have to do is figure out what my sinking tip fly lines are, but that's a discussion for another day. Thanks for the class it really helped. One question I do have is now to get memory out of fly line. I've been thinking about stretching them and heating them a little with a hair dryer. Something you could do that would probably make you a lot of fans would be to put together a PDF on leaders so we could download it and study for the final exam on the stream. Keep the good stuff coming.
I would stay away from heating up your line. The coils are one of the main things I wanted to get away from, one manufacturer is notorious for their sinking line coiling bad. If you give it a good stretch at the beginning of the day it should get rid of the coils for the day.
Brian, Thanks, I was in the group that was confused on grain weight related to sinking. Unfortunately my son works for Orvis so I am stuck with their lines..... due to price but may have to invest in a set of cortlands for chasing white bass and hybrids.

AWSOME Video Brian answered a lot of my questions that I had . Just getting into the bigger steamers . So I take it T3 means 3 inches per second ? Buy the way I'm a cortland fan also. Thanks Again
Good to hear! Yes, the "T" rating is based off of the inches per second that particular line sinks T-3= 3ips, T-6=6ips, etc.
Fantastic video, Brian. As you said most important part, probably, of streamer fishing. As you mostly fish big water from a boat, the multi density 40' sinking head makes sense. Would you use a shorter sinking head (say ~25') for walk and Wade on medium waters?
Technically, the Compact is a 28' head. The thing is, if you have a longer head you can fish 10' of it or the whole thing if you need it. If you go to a shorter head you will cap out a lot quicker and don't have the length if you need it. That's kind of the way I look at it.
Thanks for the response! Currently using a 30' sink to an int running line system and was thinking of also getting a 25' sink to floating as the int running line runs into the problem of snagging on the way and sinking at feet sorta like a full sink does.

Great video! What do you think about polyleaders to change the sinkrate of your setup?
I 100% believe it is WAY better to have lines in the sink rate you will need. Poly Leaders, sinking leaders, etc., will work if that is the only thing you have.....but a real line is a WAY better experience.
@@flyfishingtheozarks Thank you very much for your answer. It's greatly appreciated. I myself found polyleaders to be very useful so far, because they gave me a lot of flexibility when reaching deeper parts of the river or when changing from a dry fly to a small streamer on my Wt 4.

What’s the reason for disliking the polyleaders? Find them very helpful in the driftless area where different creeks require different sink rates all within a days fishing.
They definitely have their place, but for casting a big fly very far/accurately at all the experience (mostly the hinge causing people to have to pull Matrix-like maneuvers to not take a fly to the face) is way better with integrated lines. :-)
if i’m fishing more small creeks and streams that aren’t that wide here in the east coast but have good streamer opportunities, would a T3 or intermediate be better for that? i think the T6 might be too much for these waters
I would probably have both, just to cover all your bases.
Do u carry 3 different spools for your line or just unspool what is on the reel?
I actually carry 3 full reels with different line.

I'm surprised to hear you Poo-poo on Rio sinking leaders. I do great with them.
I have a few problems with them, the hinge effect is horrible to cast, they are way to short to fish longer casts, etc. They are pretty solid for some nymphing applications, but integrated is hands down better for streamer fishing.
