As someone who grew up hearing these songs from my mother, it fills me with nostalgia to hear again after so many years. I never learned the English meaning of the words until now, so thank you for uploading this. It feels good to finally understand my childhood lullaby.
My I remind you of this
I remember this from Higurashi

Listened to this when I was first learning Japanese to sing to my brother who wasn’t born yet...now he’s 4 wow time passes
Who else came here because of Higurashi? I love the song. When it was first sung in the anime, I had to find it. Though there were no official release, from sources, it is a slightly modified version of Edo no Komoriuta, so the first thing I did was search it up. And I found it, it's such a nice song.
Neurofied Yamato mee
Neurofied Yamato me too! ^.^
I came here because my grandma used to sing this to me
❤️
Why am I tearing up...the language of the love of a mother and child is universal...
What a beautiful lullaby! I'm going to listen to this over and over so I can learn it!
Is it normal to tear up with this lullaby? its very beautiful....the way she sings its is just so moving. =)
This will be the first song I learn as soon as I become familiar with the other half of the Japanese alphabet! I've practiced all the way to the "N's" in one day, and recognize almost half of the characters used in this video. by the end of the week I will be reading japanese, I can feel it.
Trio The Truth so after too years and if you still use this account.. how is your japanese now ?
My mom sang/hummed this to all 5 of her children. I did as well to my 3, and 7 grandchildren. I didn't know the English translation till now. Well, I didn't know all the Japanese words either till now. Thank you!
This was one of the first songs I ever learned in Japanese. I forgot it, but just hearing it brought it back. Glad I found this.
Hi everyone!
Thank you very much for the comments!

My mother used to this lullaby to me and my brothers as children. I guess I'm just surprised so many non-Japanese people are even familiar with it.
Troy Lewis we saw it in an anime once

Higurashi has a slightly altered version of this. And it plays at quite the vital point of the story... hence the popularity 😅
@@mesugakichama which season, I thought it was used in ova?
I heard this music from Arrow S3 E22. It is wonderful. It makes me cry:(
I've been listening to thsi song for at least fifteen minutes straight. It's so beautiful and calming.
Don't deny your culture, learn to love it, accept who you are, then absorb (in a coherent manner to the yours) the others (like the Japanese one, but not only) to grow up. Greetings from Italy.

EN ESPAÑOL
Duerme, niñito, duerme,
Ho, mi niñito, duerme,
¡Qué bonito eres, qué bonito eres
Qué lindo eres!
¿Dónde está la criada, dónde está la joven?
¿Dónde está tu joven criada?
¡Se fue, se fue,
Lejos, detrás de la colina!
Como recuerdo de su pueblo,
¿Qué te dio?
Un tambor de niño y
Una flautita de bambú.
Romanized Lyrics:
Nen-nen korori yo, Okorori yo.
Bōya wa yoi ko da, Nenne shina~
Bōya no omori wa, Doko e itta?
Ano yama koete, Sato e itta.
Sato no miyage ni, Nani morotta?
Den-den taiko ni, Shō no fue.
OMG, this is so amazing. I mean I like Jpod101 as source to learn japanese, but this is so beautiful. I hope you do more like this. Thanxx
Perfect symbiosis of lease, lyrics and audio.
I remember my grandma (we're both Korean) used to sing this to me as I fell asleep. Good times :)
This song is so beautiful!!
This song has caught me and it's not letting go, I might just go to sleep listening to it for the next year :)
I was just surfing for some relaxing music, found this, and now I've got some watery eyes, gosh.
wow, this is so beautifull
i sing it to my baby sis and she love sit.
i am in love with the japanease music like this.
Could you post another song? I love them, they're beautiful!
every time I hear it I almost cry :) Thanks!
Crazy coincidence! I was watching the new Demon Slayer movie when the main bad dude said "nen nen korori" and it like jumped my memory of this song. I couldn't remember when or where I heard it, but after listening I realized I heard it in my English class a while ago! We had a lady come in and tell a story and she would sing this song in between the parts. I know some Japanese so the song stuck in my mind a little better then it likely would have otherwise, but the fact that I found this song through this series of memories is really cool!
this song is so beautiful !
Thank you for accepting my subtitle :)
Makoto Jan congrats!
I heard this in Higurashi (anime) and I just fell inlove with it! :) I wish my mother would have known and sang this song to me. But well, I'll sing this to my future children ^_^
ok,why would ANYONE want to dislike this amazing video?!
It’s so nice to hear a version that sounds like my mom :)
Lovely lyrics, will sing it to my little one.
Higurashi anyone
Me! n.n
Best show ever
Me
That is heart-rendingly beautiful.
Thank you.
I am a pure Filipino but i know how to speak, write and read Japanese fluently. I love Japan!!
Rest in piece rengoku we will always remember you
Aaw this is beautiful. I'm going to learn this for when I have kids. Imma do the same as Dango Daikazoku:)
Dango Daikazoku is depressing if you have seen Clannad
Absolutely wonderful! Haunting and sweet.
this song is better than the last one, really beatiful :)
Ary gateaux for this beautiful song, my fore father song of Japan China Kazakhstan Russia Indonesia.
Okay =) will do.
....somehow this relaxes me to sleep
This has been used many times in anime, such as AIR TV and Higurashi (When They Cry) :) I'm glad I finally found the song
+Blondesmartarse Misuzu :(
+Hyûga Hinata Air TV and Higurashi are both my favorite shows. What a coincidence.
1BrotherDragon
you good sir, have excellent taste in anime
@@Blondesmartarse Me too
So eerie (in a good way)
@lalani1026 furigana, sometimes known as ruby, is hiragana added over kanji that says how to read it. furiganga is mostly supposed to be a reading aide for kids who can't read the kanji yet, but it comes in handy with not native speakers.
You know what would be really helpful? Instead of putting the lyrics up in japanese, you should put how it sounds like; KA=WA=NA=RI, so we can learn easier that way. :)
it doesn't matter where you're from, you can love things regardless :3
Nope, that was one of the first things I did when I started learning Japanese, tackling the writing system, first Hiragana then Katakana and my sensei has gradually been feeding in Kanji for the last 6 months or so. ^_^
I can read hiragana :D just need to learn katakana now:P and kanji o.o
my mother used to sing this to me all the time as a kid and "sakura sakura"
good video
It is really beautiful, but extremely sad... I prefer the previous one.
Would you bring us some of that songs... I don'
Amazing
Beautiful song! I had only listened to an instrumental version of this until now! Who is the singer?
@anime1lvr so that the students, both the foreign and themselves can learn the kanji by relating the sound to it. Some kanji are really difficult to learn/read, and even Japanese newspapers and magazines sometimes use it. It's called furigana.
Same i always thought it was scary so i would fake being asleep so she would stop.haha
I can read hiragana.......and personally the ones who can't and aren't making it their top priority to learn won't go too far in Japanese so ignore the people that are messing themselves up terribly with romaji (The roman alphabet)
Who is the singer for this version? Her voice is soothing
Wow this is really good congrats"!!!
Wow this is so much better than any English lullaby :] I would have slept so much better as a child :p
This is one bitchin' lullaby! Soothing to the ear's touch. I listen to it a hundred times a fucking day.
this is used in gustav holsts japanese suite...
I prefer kanji!
its the best for subtitles!
懐かしい
When I grow up, I'll sing this to my children. :D
Sleep my baby, Sleep my lovely Close your eyes, my baby. You are such a good baby Sleep my darling sleep Wheres your nanny? Where's she gone. over the mountains she has traveled to her parents home... As a souvenir from her home town. tell my what she game you darling, a small rattle drum and a small bamboo flute
SUCCESS! THIS IS THE SONG I HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR. I HEARD A LADY SINGING IT IN AN AWESOM ANIME CALLED BLEACH.
She sings well
@radiodjcy Think of it as a phonetic exercise. If you find yourself too old for listening to lullabies, sing the lullabies to children. It is a good song.
When I have children, I'm going to sing this to them :)
love the song 5 stars :)
What is the vocalist’s name? Her voice is lovely!
@Garudanime
I've seen AIR tv before and don't remembeer this being in there. What episode was it in, or was it in the movie?
woooh is an aswsome sonnnnngggg!!!
It reminds me of dolls from Language Nursery
Everyone in japan know this song?
このビデオは小さいこわいですね? でも、とても面白いの歌ですよ。
I don't remember how they are called, but those comic songs about bossy women, a man who left his "koibito" behind (like Ikimonogakari no "Momen no handkerchief" or the traditional "Hoshikage no waltz") ?
i like the version in AIR tv more :P
Anyone know exactly who the singer is for this version? I was trying to find this on Itunes but couldn't the exact singer
No, and it's a good thing that you can. You simply cannot get all of the nuances of the sounds with romaji. Seriously, I was amazed how much more I understood alone after completing Kantan Kana.
江戸のスタイル歌は大好きです。新しいスタイル。。。やばいです。

How is it supposed to help me learn japanese?
what does edo no komori uta or whatevs mean?
@ryanscool2008 The name of the song is "Edo No Komoriuta", or "Edo Lullaby".
ok random question, but why do they put the kana on top of the kanji? instead wouldnt it just be easier to use the kana instead in the first place?
Hanyuu :D
Oh I know, that was really more a joke than anything tbh. Though when you consider the American cultural identity, that pretty much belongs solely to the native Americans. The rest of us are largely European descendents. We definitely have a rich history even as a young country, but cultural identity? We're lacking there. I personally think it's why many Americans tend to latch so strongly onto other cultures (i.e Japanese, black culture, etc). As a people, we're still trying to find ourselves
is this Nakamato Suzuka singing? It sounds like her voice
Hi Dean Grant,
Thank you for posting!
No, it is not! :)
We are glad to hear you are enjoying our lessons.
Cheers,
Laura
Team JapanesePod101.com
It's the voice actress of the character Hanyuu from the anime Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
Kira Suzuki No, Hanyuu may sing this song (although it is a different version) in Higurashi,
But this isn't her singing in this video
Very nice video though! :)
dude i was thinking the same thing😸
who is the singer ????
@NekoMimi03 ohhh ok thanks.. i just didnt know what it was called :P
@strati5 it's better to learn hiragana. otherwise you'll never progress far.
froufroulover4's friend... where's the rest of the song? :( i wish the whole song was here... a whatever, at least they have furigana for people who cant read kanji
how can you remember all these words, i don't think that as a starter i van remember all these :S
