Those are laid down by the rights holders and people who buy in retail stores to sell online have in fact catalyzed government(s) and supply chain to pretty heavily regulate what we do and make us accountable to it legally. Essentially most of us, about 70% are no different than flea market vendors, note the term, vendors. The term reseller does not apply to that 70%, it applied to authorized supply chain whom invented the term. You will not see the term "Reseller" in any of eBay's terms of service legal contract agreement as LEGALLY that term ONLY applies to authorized chain. eBay used to have, "Private seller", "Third Party Seller (which is what we are)" and Authorized Reseller. Many years back eBay changed that agreement naming all as "Sellers" for legal reasons that are obvious at least in protecting eBays interests. Are there problems with "Sellers?" Absolutely. eBay's VERO has existed since 1998 and the problems even before that. Does gouging happen? Yes. Most consumers are unaware that literally every state in the nation has laws pertaining to gouging and all it takes is a complaint to the proper State Attorney General for investigation. Now legally considering "gouging" gets complex and online even more complex. If gouging laws did not exist as a consumer yourself you would be VERY VERY VERY angry at what business would perpetrate unto you and others. You wont see Walmart, Target, Kohls, Goodyear, Home Depot or even your local Tree Farm gouging consumers, changing prices based on availability and demand on hard goods as THEY CANNOT. We are not in "Retail" online of offline nor are most of us "Resellers." In fact the term "Reseller" has now been weaponized by authorized chain as "Unauthorized Reseller" as that sounds VERY VERY bad to legislators, investors and likely to come within the next two years all over TV and Radio media thanks to Mr. Trump, the FTC, FBI and unified supply chain.

My Go 2 Tape. When we had yard sales throughout the summer a few years ago, we just wanted the items gone. I didn’t care who bought them, just wanted to reduce how much we had, knowing it was great stuff that we didn’t want in the landfill. If someone else could use it for themselves or make some money on it, it’s better than having items go to waste.😊
My go to tape. I look at reselling as I am getting an item from a seller who loved it, and getting it to it's next home to another person who will love it. Most sellers want their items to go to people who will love them like they did. I'm the middle woman who helps get them to the right new owner. It makes me feel good to provide a service that helps two different people find some joy.

When I’ve had garage sales in the past my goal was to get rid of everything I didn’t care who bought it or what they were going to do with it even knowing some of it may be more valuable I didn’t want to bother with going on eBay. That was then now I resell lol
I always do what's best for me and my [future] 'business'. I sent out offers on a few choice items that were on the Watched list Sunday evening (i.e. yesterday) and reaped a nice sale from it, before midnight. I feel very good about it and had a couple more orders to ship along with that one. As long as me and my buyers are happy, nothing else matters.
My Go 2 TAPE. 1st: appreciate all you do and the effort you put out there with the intent to help other resellers; it IS appreciated and I enjoy your vids immensely. 2nd: it just galls me how others feel they are put on this earth to try and bully others into stepping the way they do. And because these days, we can hide behind a computer, the vitriol just seems more rampant these days. I don't get why anyone could/should care about what I do, or you do, with what we buy. As a reseller I agree with having sales or coupons or offers, what I don’t like is sellers who list items way below their value, then when we list the same item if we don’t also list lower ours won’t sell. That’s a vicious circle.
I always think they're trying to get rid of their stuff and they aren't doing it for a living. They don't know what they are doing to the market. Of course, some are probably just trying to get the sales from the rest. I'm wondering where they are getting all their stuff for so cheap they are able to make a profit doing that. I don't sell a lot but even I want to make what everyone else is. That extra $10 or $15 is half of my water bill 😂 That's what I think about when reselling things.
I list on the lower end with certain items that I paid very little for, to sell it fast. I have other items I know are slower sellers and I have limited space. However, I don't directly compete with the lowest price. Some items I will ask a higher price for, if I'm willing to hang onto it longer. I use do the average price of the current listings combined with the sold item prices. People will pay a higher price if it is being shipped closer to them. Someone is going to save $ on shipping to California (I'm in Oregon) even if my price is a couple bucks higher, then buying the same item at a lower price from someone in a different ship zone. I think this is a good example of resellers believing other resellers should do things differently, that was the subject of this video. I have to sell at a lower price sometimes simply because I have limited space, and I didn't pay much for it. I knew that when I bought it. I don't think it's fair for any reseller to decide I shouldn't do this just because you or other resellers have a different business model. :)

My go to Tape-When I do a yard sale I want it gone, why pack it up and take it to be donated just sell it for what you can get for it. whether its a reseller or not money is money. When I am selling on ebay I usually give a discount to the person who is watching the item so I know they are interested in buying it. Happy Holidays to you and your family!
I did a bulk buy & I was quoted $75 & I purchased it retailed out @ $550. The seller got what he wanted & I got what I wanted you got to love 4th quarter.
Thank You for covering this topic. As a newer reseller with my eye evermore on scaling, its been confusing and it was hard to know who to listen to. Resellers are awesome but they also can be so critical. I live in a very rural isolated town in the Oregon mountains at the end of the Cascades. Its the unpopulated part of Oregon, many Oregonians themselves have never been here. Our gas stations can run out of gas in a snowstorm, because of the mountain pass- for example. Hence, my lifestyle and my sourcing "look" vitally different then most places in the U.S, even within the PNW. Also, it's only me with my husband accompanying me on occasion to source- that is another vital statistic for my biz model. So much of social media discusses bangers, I'm sick of it. I do find "bangers' but it's mainly at garage sales, only in summer, and typically its either outdoor gear or books. I watch this channel from time to time when listing. Commenting to boost because I really received some valuable insight from this one moving forward into 2025.

Most garage sale sellers, would prefer a dealer dropping $100+ in one shot, than a drip drip drip of $5 sales all day. Average non-reseller will only buy an item or two. The dealer, might buy everything on the table.
My oldest sister said to me after I was selling on ebay. "Can you believe people buy stuff to resell it? Who would do a thing like that? They should only make it to resell it. " I almost choked on my drink! LOL Everyone it entitled to their opinion it does not make them right.
I dont know about you, but I am always looking for the most obscure item to repair a toy from the late 90's ONLY in a 5 miles radius from my house at garage sales. I mean, how else are you going to find it? There is literally no other option out there.

I hope someone made some money off of it if they didn't buy it for themselves. Most garage sales I've been to, the sellers are just overwhelmed and want it out of the house. A number of garage sales I went to this summer had 'free boxes:' Boxes full of things the homeowner didn't perceive as having any resale value. They might not have sold at their garage sale even with a low price, but on eBay, with a larger audience, there is more of a chance that a buyer will come along. I pick up stuff from free boxes *all* *the* *time,* and am able to sell them on eBay. Would that homeowner have preferred to put that stuff in a landfill? Or to drive it to the nearest Goodwill? I doubt it. They wanted to give it away free to avoid dealing with it. Should I have left those items just in case someone came along who wanted it for their personal use? I don't think, so since there is no guarantee that would happen. I apply this same thinking to anything I buy at a garage sale. The owner wants to get rid of stuff and I am doing them a service by buying it. If they wanted top dollar, they wouldn't be selling it at a garage sale. So for anyone who is critical of resellers for making money off of stuff we buy cheaply, I say 1) You aren't looking at the full picture, and 2) Your comments have an air of jealousy or a sense of lack to them.
If you are wondering about the Enron appeal, a lot of finance bros online like creating memes about companies like Enron because they represent a historic bankruptcy of a once household name. It's kind of like collecting blockbuster merch and laughing about how online streaming 'ate their lunch.' People also collect stuff from companies like Silicon Valley Bank which was memorable because of how sudden the collapse was.

People need to focus on their own business model. Sometimes I do low prices...sometimes I gradually do low prices. Sometimes I sell things that are above the general market price. People do not always go for the lowest price.... At the end of the day...people need to do what they feel is right FOR THEM.
The problem with these people is that they don’t understand that MAYBE a couple hundred people will see a certain item at a garage sale. When a reseller grabs it and puts it on eBay, it becomes available to tens of millions of people. More chance for that item to find a good home. The reseller is being compensated for their time..and the fact that they showed up somewhere at 7am , probably drove a while, searched and planned, cleaned things up, photographed and listed them..and you didn’t. Most folks having garage sales just want rid of clutter. If they wanted to bother selling their own items online, they would just do it.
How long until these people who complain about your sales and offers start accusing you of manipulating people into buying your items because you put the price at a dollars and cents price, rather than an even dollar price, e.g. $14.95 rather than $15? It is a trick used by retail stores to make items sound cheaper than they really are. If you pay $9.95 for something, it just makes sense to tell yourself it is less than $10. (Of course, it really is, but not by much). This sometimes persuades others to buy your items. I say keep offering discounts and offers. It is none of their business and there is nothing wrong with doing this. The United States free enterprise system was built on competition. Have a merry Christmas and may all be great for you and your family!
I would also like to add that these people who want you to stop offering sales and discounts are the same type of people who would fix prices if they could. That is actually illegal. Do not listen to them.
Totally agree. Sure there are things that might generally work all around like actually listing good items... and racing to the bottom... like movies category... yeah... not so cool. But you are right one thing that works outside the realm of generalize is each to their own. And yup I watch several channels and I try to implement certain things to try out. And see if it works. If it doesn't I go back to what I was before.
My Go To Tape - im sorry ubdeal with so much hate man. Im very proud to tell people what i do for a living when they ask. I work 2 part time jobs around my resell business schedule. Its great, pays the bills and im super happy with my schedule now and i have more time with my family. I work 5am - 9am monday thru friday, then my resell business, and i work 2 nights a week in a restaurant. It works awesome for me and my family. Keep doing what u do, youve def helped me keep an eye out for things i normally wouldnt look at. Thank you.

I had a place setting of China listed on Mercari since March. I lowered the price the lowest amount they let me to show to watchers. I had in the description I had multiple sets message me for combined shipping. The price lowered .90¢. A customer bought six settings. It was a little over a hundred dollars so I dropped it to $100 when I made the reserved listing. She didn't ask me to. But she was very nice when asking about it. She was nice to do business with and maybe she will like to buy from me again or recommend my Mercari page to someone else. I don't have a lot on it because I don't sell a lot. Hopefully, this year I will get more listed and start eBay. Hubby needs eye surgery and I don't want to dip into the savings while he's off work. I'm not looking to be a millionaire. Just extra money here and there. My vehicle is old so it would be nice to also not have to dip into the savings when it finally dies and I need another one 😊

Dang- some of those comments are rough. I try to match comps to stay fair to others and let my feedback speak for itself- sometimes I undercut, but rarely. The majority of my more expensive items I price the same as the highest comp if my stuff is in better condition with original packaging, etc. Guess who gets the sale. Sorry not sorry. My focus is the CUSTOMER - not other resellers. I do sell to resellers often- and I typically will accept offers from obvious resellers. I'm not greedy, but I do have to keep food on the table. Every instance is different. I gripe about scammers- I NEVER gripe about other resellers.

Putting all your eggs in one basket, usually is a bad idea. Ask the people who specialized in Roseville years ago. They cant get 25% of what they used to sell. Trends in buying change. Its better to diversify overall.
I’ll be honest I’ve had other resellers get on me because of the way I sell my items. If I can be the cheapest and I’m still bubbling and tripping my money from my business standpoint and my business model That’s all that matters. I tell other resellers they need to learn how to buy better and that means getting those deals getting the best price that you can. That’s our job that is my job to get the best deal. And the seller always has the right to tell me no I can’t do it or we meet in the middle somewhere. I have to at least be able to double to triple my investment . Now are there times that we do 100 times what we purchased absolutely But that’s how I run my business. And we have actually done so well on some items. That when I’ve gone back to the family to pick more, I’ve given them more money because I did better on some things. But I still made my profit But yep, I’ve gotten a earful on the Facebook groups for doing that and how could I do that and I need to raise my prices Nope…….

As someone who has held many garage sales over the years, I could care less who is buying it. it's stuff that we just want gone. If you are offended that resellers are making purchases at garage sales, I think you need to take a deep breath. It's called a free market or capitalism.
You just made your own point with the hat. They sold for good money. TH-camrs posted they sell good. Everyone and their brother looked and found them. Supply and demand dropped. Now you had to drop the price. Someone will see your little tiny butt in public and it'll be tough luck. Should watch how you address the public. I used to watch a reseller who is very well liked here on TH-cam but she p%#€ed me off when she would repeatedly chastise resellers for selling an item for less than similar listed items and I just couldn’t stand her judgment anymore!! It’s ok to give your opinion but it’s not okay to chastise over and over 😤

My go to Tape-When I do a yard sale I want it gone, why pack it up and take it to be donated just sell it for what you can get for it. whether its a reseller or not money is money. When I am selling on ebay I usually give a discount to the person who is watching the item so I know they are interested in buying it. Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Thank You for covering this topic. As a newer reseller with my eye evermore on scaling, its been confusing and it was hard to know who to listen to. Resellers are awesome but they also can be so critical. I live in a very rural isolated town in the Oregon mountains at the end of the Cascades. Its the unpopulated part of Oregon, many Oregonians themselves have never been here. Our gas stations can run out of gas in a snowstorm, because of the mountain pass- for example. Hence, my lifestyle and my sourcing "look" vitally different then most places in the U.S, even within the PNW. Also, it's only me with my husband accompanying me on occasion to source- that is another vital statistic for my biz model. So much of social media discusses bangers, I'm sick of it. I do find "bangers' but it's mainly at garage sales, only in summer, and typically its either outdoor gear or books. I watch this channel from time to time when listing. Commenting to boost because I really received some valuable insight from this one moving forward into 2025.

Most garage sale sellers, would prefer a dealer dropping $100+ in one shot, than a drip drip drip of $5 sales all day. Average non-reseller will only buy an item or two. The dealer, might buy everything on the table.

My oldest sister said to me after I was selling on ebay. "Can you believe people buy stuff to resell it? Who would do a thing like that? They should only make it to resell it. " I almost choked on my drink! LOL Everyone it entitled to their opinion it does not make them right.
I dont know about you, but I am always looking for the most obscure item to repair a toy from the late 90's ONLY in a 5 miles radius from my house at garage sales. I mean, how else are you going to find it? There is literally no other option out there.
Brilliant video Kevin. Last month I donated a bunch of stuff I could've resold, but I was sick of having it around. I needed more room for my handmade business. I hope someone made some money off of it if they didn't buy it for themselves. Most garage sales I've been to, the sellers are just overwhelmed and want it out of the house. Not everyone has the patience to research, list. blah blah blah and we already know that of course!

A number of garage sales I went to this summer had 'free boxes:' Boxes full of things the homeowner didn't perceive as having any resale value. They might not have sold at their garage sale even with a low price, but on eBay, with a larger audience, there is more of a chance that a buyer will come along. I pick up stuff from free boxes *all* *the* *time,* and am able to sell them on eBay. Would that homeowner have preferred to put that stuff in a landfill? Or to drive it to the nearest Goodwill? I doubt it. They wanted to give it away free to avoid dealing with it. Should I have left those items just in case someone came along who wanted it for their personal use? I don't think, so since there is no guarantee that would happen.
I apply this same thinking to anything I buy at a garage sale. The owner wants to get rid of stuff and I am doing them a service by buying it. If they wanted top dollar, they wouldn't be selling it at a garage sale. So for anyone who is critical of resellers for making money off of stuff we buy cheaply, I say 1) You aren't looking at the full picture, and 2) Your comments have an air of jealousy or a sense of lack to them.

If you are wondering about the Enron appeal, a lot of finance bros online like creating memes about companies like Enron because they represent a historic bankruptcy of a once household name. It's kind of like collecting blockbuster merch and laughing about how online streaming 'ate their lunch.' People also collect stuff from companies like Silicon Valley Bank which was memorable because of how sudden the collapse was.

People need to focus on their own business model. Sometimes I do low prices...sometimes I gradually do low prices. Sometimes I sell things that are above the general market price. People do not always go for the lowest price....
At the end of the day...people need to do what they feel is right FOR THEM.
I still get sales even when I list higher than the market. It may take longer but all it takes is that one person who is looking for it.

The problem with these people is that they don’t understand that MAYBE a couple hundred people will see a certain item at a garage sale. When a reseller grabs it and puts it on eBay, it becomes available to tens of millions of people. More chance for that item to find a good home. The reseller is being compensated for their time..and the fact that they showed up somewhere at 7am , probably drove a while, searched and planned, cleaned things up, photographed and listed them..and you didn’t. Most folks having garage sales just want rid of clutter. If they wanted to bother selling their own items online, they would just do it.

How long until these people who complain about your sales and offers start accusing you of manipulating people into buying your items because you put the price at a dollars and cents price, rather than an even dollar price, e.g. $14.95 rather than $15? It is a trick used by retail stores to make items sound cheaper than they really are. If you pay $9.95 for something, it just makes sense to tell yourself it is less than $10. (Of course, it really is, but not by much). This sometimes persuades others to buy your items. I say keep offering discounts and offers. It is none of their business and there is nothing wrong with doing this. The United States free enterprise system was built on competition. Have a merry Christmas and may all be great for you and your family!
I would also like to add that these people who want you to stop offering sales and discounts are the same type of people who would fix prices if they could. That is actually illegal. Do not listen to them.
Totally agree. Sure there are things that might generally work all around like actually listing good items... and racing to the bottom... like movies category... yeah... not so cool. But you are right one thing that works outside the realm of generalize is each to their own. And yup I watch several channels and I try to implement certain things to try out. And see if it works. If it doesn't I go back to what I was before.
My Go To Tape - im sorry ubdeal with so much hate man. Im very proud to tell people what i do for a living when they ask. I work 2 part time jobs around my resell business schedule. Its great, pays the bills and im super happy with my schedule now and i have more time with my family. I work 5am - 9am monday thru friday, then my resell business, and i work 2 nights a week in a restaurant. It works awesome for me and my family. Keep doing what u do, youve def helped me keep an eye out for things i normally wouldnt look at. Thank you.

I had a place setting of China listed on Mercari since March. I lowered the price the lowest amount they let me to show to watchers. I had in the description I had multiple sets message me for combined shipping. The price lowered .90¢. A customer bought six settings. It was a little over a hundred dollars so I dropped it to $100 when I made the reserved listing. She didn't ask me to. But she was very nice when asking about it.
She was nice to do business with and maybe she will like to buy from me again or recommend my Mercari page to someone else. I don't have a lot on it because I don't sell a lot.
Hopefully, this year I will get more listed and start eBay. Hubby needs eye surgery and I don't want to dip into the savings while he's off work. I'm not looking to be a millionaire. Just extra money here and there.
My vehicle is old so it would be nice to also not have to dip into the savings when it finally dies and I need another one 😊

Dang- some of those comments are rough. I try to match comps to stay fair to others and let my feedback speak for itself- sometimes I undercut, but rarely. The majority of my more expensive items I price the same as the highest comp if my stuff is in better condition with original packaging, etc. Guess who gets the sale. Sorry not sorry. My focus is the CUSTOMER - not other resellers. I do sell to resellers often- and I typically will accept offers from obvious resellers. I'm not greedy, but I do have to keep food on the table. Every instance is different. I gripe about scammers- I NEVER gripe about other resellers.
Can you imagine an employee telling their boss," no l don't want a raise. I don't want my coworkers to think I'm greedy." 😂
That's what those commenters are basically saying: Don't sell your stuff for more than garage sales or you are greedy. That's crazy 🤣

Putting all your eggs in one basket, usually is a bad idea. Ask the people who specialized in Roseville years ago. They cant get 25% of what they used to sell. Trends in buying change. Its better to diversify overall.

I’ll be honest I’ve had other resellers get on me because of the way I sell my items.
If I can be the cheapest and I’m still bubbling and tripping my money from my business standpoint and my business model
That’s all that matters. I tell other resellers they need to learn how to buy better and that means getting those deals getting the best price that you can. That’s our job that is my job to get the best deal. And the seller always has the right to tell me no I can’t do it or we meet in the middle somewhere.
I have to at least be able to double to triple my investment .
Now are there times that we do 100 times what we purchased absolutely
But that’s how I run my business.
And we have actually done so well on some items. That when I’ve gone back to the family to pick more, I’ve given them more money because I did better on some things.
But I still made my profit
But yep, I’ve gotten a earful on the Facebook groups for doing that and how could I do that and I need to raise my prices

As someone who has held many garage sales over the years, I could care less who is buying it. it's stuff that we just want gone. If you are offended that resellers are making purchases at garage sales, I think you need to take a deep breath. It's called a free market or capitalism.

I used to watch a reseller who is very well liked here on TH-cam but she p%#€ed me off when she would repeatedly chastise resellers for selling an item for less than similar listed items and I just couldn’t stand her judgment anymore!! It’s ok to give your opinion but it’s not okay to chastise over and over 😤
