10 English Words Germans Use Wrongly│Beginner German

In the German language, we use many, many English words, however, these English words are mostly Germanised. For example, we use German grammar with English verbs (downloaden). Most of the words, however, take on a whole new meaning, such as "das Homeoffice" (working from home, e.g. during lockdown), or "Public Viewing", which describes an event where, for example, a football match is shown on a big screen in public to a large audience. Today I'm going to show you 10 more of these English words Germans use wrongly and most of them probably wouldn't make much sense in English. Viel Spaß!

4: I must have misunderstood, because the thing that goes under a dress is called a slip in English too

We borrow some words from German, also. One that comes to mind that we use wrongly is "gesundheit." We say that when someone sneezes. Also, "kindergarten" is not a garden for children. It is the grade in school before 1st grade.

PRO TIP:

Ich bin nicht sicher, ob sie wirklich aus Englisch kommen, aber sie haben mir verwirrt, als ich sie das Erste Mal gelernt habe: eventuell, sympatisch, Eis.

Eventuell und sympatisch sind aus dem Lateinischen beziehungsweise dem Griechischen. Und obwohl Eis verwandt an ice ist, ist das Wort nicht aus dem Englischen, sondern es ist ein altes, germanisches Wort.

Vielleicht ist der Smoking nicht zu komish. Ich habe in vielen Filmen gesehen, dass man "Smoking" zu schönen Personen sagen kann. Da ist das Wort ein Adjektiv. Das ist nicht genauso wie "Der Smoking", aber ist es vielleicht näher zu die Bedeutung?

Ich glaube dass "Wellness" is auch missbraucht. "Wellness“ ist auf Englisch kein Spa, sondern bedeutet "Wohlbefinden“
