@Innerchild.Whisperer I loved it. It's the first time I've ever seen the difficult relationship between black daughters with white mothers depicted on a film. Nobody understands it. I resonated with Ebony so very much. Today, 'swirling' and 'blended families' is trendy, accepted and even celebrated. For those of us born in the early 80s, we weren't celebrated. We couldn't turn to our mom's when we were spit on and called ni66ers in school every day. Our mothers resented us and regretted having us because our fathers cheated and left. If we called ourselves black, our white family members would be offended. I was always accepted and loved by black people. I found out that my grandparents wouldn't even attend my mom and dad's wedding because she was marrying a black man. Luckily, they loved my sister and i and through us, I believe they changed. I flew home for my birthday 10 years ago and had everybody meet at Moxies. I invited my grandparents and all of my friends I grew up with. There were black, Native and Asians in attendance and I'll never forget how all the guys were sitting at the table with my gramps. They were all laughing, having beers and shaking hands. It brought a tear to my eye that 30 years after they refused to bless my parents' marriage, they were sitting and breaking bread with so many people of color.
Sorry for the long winded responce but that movie was just amazing to me.. we fight demons that aren't understood or acknowledged. To the contrary, we're told we have a privileged life and that is far from our real story and experiences.

My mother was a cross between Monique in Precious and Glen Close in The Deliverance, but with money and an education. I really loved this movie. Brought up many feelings and emotions.. ❤

I love how you broke the movie down , I love how Lee Daniels added the psychological aspect of trauma in the black family.

There were a lot of deeper undertones that ppl aren’t focused on

I gotta say, If you didn’t know anything about the black community and you watched this… you’d think WE ANGRY and MEAN!! And a major reason why we need therapy.

Not a fan of media that's mostly the spectacle of black suffering. There's been enough suffering.

Very true! I did like the deeper meaning between the mother daughter dynamic. Even though I feel like most ppl were r paying attention to that.

I was so moved after I saw this movie I was unable to think of anything but what I f**"*ing saw in NOT the scare factor but I totally SAW this incredible INCREDIBLE acting abilities of Monique and the external impossible powers against them at every corner. . I think the storytelling is brilliant. This movie is sooooo powerful. This movie has touched every emotion and I think of it daily and tell anyone I canbto experience it. Not another Black Family Struggling Movie and thank God not just a scary movie. I'm happy at the end I think I can say now thanks to the award winning actor ship of May and Close.

Your take on the movie was 💯❗️ After I read a local newspaper article on the actual family made me see this ordeal differently. I think he could have dove deeper into the psychological aspect of the main character vs making a typical horror flick.
