I corrected the title. I had identified the model of helmet wrong when I first got the helmet. It is a TШ-4M-2 (TSH-4M-2) I can do a video on the different models and the history on the helmet if people desire.
Random chance in case you see this; I've just bought a helmet to do the same thing with. Do you have any sort of wire/circuit diagrams for the headset, or any kind of info about how to properly wire it up? (Yes, I am an engineer hence the specific question lol)
I'm not an expert but a soviet military/history enthusiast, this is the summer version of the helmet used from the 60s to 80s like you said and not just in tanks but afvs and apcs like the bmp and btr series of vehicles and in case you don't know it also has a compatible night vision goggle set for the crew in dark areas. Also the reason you can't make the mic work is because it only has a two stripe jack a microphone compatible jack has three. Hope I helped and nice helmet!
Eastern Idiot I’ve seen the winter ones for sale but where I live they would be pretty hot to wear. I’ve seen pictures of ASU-57 crewmen wearing the earlier ones but I wasn’t all to sure when the dates of the helmets were. I was thinking about buying the NVD one but they are quite pricey. Thanks for the information!
@@TheCarDemotic No problem! The number of ridges on top are indicative to the era it was produced ww2 ones had 3 these had 4 and modern ones 6. About the NVG you can find a polish copy of the goggles for between 100 and 200 USD which is expensive but cheap for night vision no guarantee if they'd work though. Hope that helps!
Eastern Idiot I hadn’t looked at the NVD in a while and i just found one that is going to $200. Currently I actually have way more then that but i was saving to buy a better computer. Now I’m torn because I want both lol.
@@TheCarDemotic I have good news and bad news there are non working sets for 50 to 75 USD plus shipping it says they're possibly fixable but parts are scarce if you're still interested I could try to link them

@@TheCarDemotic I just purchased a TSh-4M-3-Z (The winter one) and I keep going over this video in excitement. Finally arrived it. I didn't realise my plug would be Mono. Well, it works! And so do my mics. I'm definitely getting an amp in the near future.
I’m going to try and make this soon probably and I’ll also try to make the one the other guy made since I have a soldering iron and I can order the materials I’ll update this one day when I do it.
Hey I'm sorry for asking but could you make a video of you taking out the earphones from the helmet. I wanna see the difference from the yugoslavian one and the soviet one.
@@TheCarDemotic yea diffrent plugs too, ones a four prong circle, and the other is a two prong female square shaped, in problsy goign to make a custom wire thing at work
From what I have read they have always been the TSH-4 The Original TSH-4 was supposedly made in 1936. Then in the 50’s they made the TSH-4M which had the intercoms built in. (They still had 3 bumps on them) Then in the 70’s they updated it with 4 bumps instead of 3 and that style of helmet they used until the 80’s when they replaced it with the 6 bumps one with the blocky earpieces
@@TheCarDemotic from what i leared, in various sources (including a friend of mine in военная кафедра), blocky one was ТШ-4 and the round was ТШ-3, i tried reading russian sources, and it says pretty much the same, i might be wrong about previous version, but im kinda sure that this is ТШ-3
@@gungbojog6030 Definitely not. If you read the stamp on the hidden bit of the tank helmet, you'll see its serial number which states "TSh-4M" (L or Z depending on which type.)

I would suggest getting a headphone tube amp if the volume is a problem.
I don't plan to use it as a proper mic. It was more of a general idea I wanted to see if it worked. But yeah that would probably fix the problem

Ones probably for the microphone and the other is probably for speakers?
