Tennis Legends John McEnroe

American John McEnroe (1959-) arrived on the scene in the late 1970s. A player with an explosive temper, he had a long-running battle with officials over line calls. After winning his first Grand Slam singles title aged 20 at the 1979 US Open, he won two more in 1980 and 1981 as well as Wimbledon 1981. He then won Wimbledon in 1983 and 1984 and won his final Grand Slam singles title at the US Open in 1984 aged just 25. He was then overtaken by a younger generation of players. In 1990 he was disqualified from the Australian Open for verbal abusing officials. He retired in 1992 and later played the senior tour for many years. He also became a well known TV commentator.
