    I love St Mary's. I shot a train here 30 years ago. He was Symbol ed R316, Love the shot. Cameras have really come a long way since I shot mine. I used to travel through here on the way to and from college in Montgomery, WV in the late 80s and 90s. This train was a lot larger than the ones I shot back then.

    Nice location @Jaw Tooth! I’m not sure how far you travel, but a really nice location is Palmer, MA at the Steaming Tender Restaurant. There’s a diamond there; One rail is CSX, the other is a local rail, New England Central Railroad. Another short line railroad that runs there is Massachusetts Central. The Steaming Tender is open Thursday’s to Sunday’s. If you ever get the chance to go, it is a great railfanning spot! (P.S. The best, busiest time for CSX is typically 5-10am)

    I lived in Brooklyn NY in a 3rd fl apartment at the corner of Fulton St and Crescent St where the J Train (elevated train) made a sharp left turn to go up to Jamaica Ave. The wheels of that train screamed like a Banchee, and the funny thing was that after a very short while I didn’t even hear it anymore, and my bedroom window was shouting distance to where the train made the turn. I would imagine that it is like that for the folks living in these residences on either floor.

    With roller bearings being the rule and not the exception, trains are pretty well silent, unless you get some rolling stock with 'flat tires' banging all over the place. Once he passes through and stops blowing the whistle and shuts down the bell, one can go back to sleep lulled by those smooth rolling bogies/wheels.

    • @kaleblesmeister2954

      My town in JAMESTOWN ND had the same problem of trains constantly blaring there horns thru town until we voted to put in a quit zone wich now trains are no longer allowed to blare there horns thru town & if they do they end up with a 500 hundred dollar fine.

    • @anmlrsqnj
      @anmlrsqnj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      So you issue it as a no horn zone, Now who will be responsible if someone accidentally gets hit by a train? Who gets sued? The Railroad or the town or both?
      Secondly who pays for the upgrades to each intersection since it seems there are no protective gates or warning signals?
      It is serious financial issue for a small town to take on.

      @@kaleblesmeister2954 I'm an engineer for a large railroad out of Los Angeles and we still can blow the horn in quiet zones in certain situations without penalty. I don't know how your ND town handles it, but no fines are ever issued to us out here on the west coast.

    Hello again from the UK. Excellent video Mr Jaw Tooth. After all of the debate about what is and what is not street running this is 100% street running and over a decent length. A dedicated long wait, but when the train did pass through the street is was worth it, a monster train with four locos on the front and a DPU pulling about 100 wagons.
    I saw your wife's video a few days ago. BTW, if she is Mrs Jaw Tooth, is the collective noun for your family the Jaw Tooths, or shouldn't it be the Jaw Teeth? Just a thought.

I Wish I Had A Camera Back Then. It Was 1998-2005. Allot Of Interesting Locomotives Back Then, Lots Of EMD SD40-2's, SD50's & 60's. And Older GE's Locomotives, Such As C40-8 & B23-7, B40-8 With Standard Spartan Cab. That's When Burlington Northern Already Merged With Santa Fe, Which Became BNSF. That’s one of the quietest trains through town . The rolling is so silent, but expect for the horn that kept on going . Why did they have to lay on it so long ? Anyway just had to say how It was just a smooth trek down the road !!
